Why are people so weird?

My customers always bring back their cartons and I have friends save them from their store bought eggs ::shudder::. Every once in a while they'll bring me a cardboard one. I just smile, say thank you, and then throw it out. I want to be like "um how am I supposed to wash this to reuse it?!" But I'd rather they just give me what they have. If its in bad condition I chuck it. I have a 3 foot high stack that I doubt I'll ever go through with me measly 8 birds.

Does it really need to be cleaned? All the eggs they put in there get bleached first.

I guess (the Hutterites told me when I used to buy eggs from them) we’re not allowed to reuse cartons in SD, especially if they’re labeled with things you’re not technically qualified to claim. Things like free-range and organic mean specific things legally that aren’t the same as what we mean. Free range means the birds have access to a small dirt yard fifteen minutes a day (or something like that). To claim it, some bureaucratic process has to happen. Organic has some special definition too, that ordinary mortals can’t afford to qualify for. Pastured is still available to us for the time being unless that’s recently been co-opted.

DH is a retired insurance adjuster and terrified of liability for my selling eggs, so I give them to my friends when we get together once a week to paint. (I realize this probably doesn’t change my liability much, but it keeps him happy.) They buy my lunch ‘cause they’re just generous like that. :) I make sure I sneak by and pay for my own before they get the chance once in a while, or else those would end up being really pricey eggs. :lau

I re-use grocery store paper egg cartons, but then again I'm not selling my eggs. I very much emphasize that my eggs are unwashed and so everyone knows to wash their hands after handling. I also figure I'm the only one that eats their eggs undercooked, so if anyone's going to suffer from it, it'd be me, but so far so good. :)

I ate them raw for years when I was a kid ... managed to not die! Nowadays I usually eat them soft poached, so the whites start to set but the yolks can sometimes still be cool in the center. So far so good! I figure a steady diet of spicy food helps to kill anything bad I ingest.

I have the same problem, Family come and "eggspect" :gigtheirs for free. I have even had one ask me for 3 dozen I was like, whaaaaa…:barnie. And the reply I got was "oh we give them out to our friends":th. SO the free egg train is OVER people. And why, why don't people return cartons, I also stamp them and will be adding a carton fee if it continues. Its a lot of work to just hand them out, and don't get me started on my garden. What are people thinking I am growing to hand it out. That's a lot of time and sweat for you to eat for free.:he SMH ,think people. :rant

I can eat raw cookie dough til the cows come home, but I need my eggs overcooked or I die a little inside.

Ohmygoodness Banty! I have to eat mine soft scrambled—barely set and very moist—or they’re just icky. I really dislike if I get them browned at all. It changes the taste a lot and not for the better. I like them steamed (boiled), but I have to do it in my instant pot so I can be sure not to turn the yolk green. Yuck.

Browned eggs are the only tolerable eggs. (I think this is what we call a symbiotic ecosystem. Between us, no egg dish will go to waste, eh.)

Boiled eggs were invented by a sadist! The smell alone horrifies me. A perfectly good egg, ruined.
