So the back story. I will try and keep it short.

In the spring I was trying to get a few BA hens. Kept ending up with a rooster in the lot. No roos allowed in town.
DH had a friend a work that wanted the BA roo but with the cattle and the drought he did not have time to make a coop.
SO... At my expense and time I built a small coop that could be taken apart and transported. I did not know he intended to keep them where the cows are (15 miles from his house). I worked in the blazing sun to get the coop built and then transported.
He got free to him 1 coop, 1 BA roo, 1 BA hen and 1 BO hen. ( I could not let the fellow go alone and be a lone rooster with no company)

The coop and chickens were delivered on July 3. I told DH I was NOT happy about the location or the fact there was no run to protect them.
I told him I gave it 30 days til a predator found them.

Well it was a few more than 30 days. The predator found them 2 nights ago. Got them all and 2 yearling calves.

Tore the coop to shreds as well.
DH felt the need to tell me during dinner last night. Just out of the blue. No warning of what was to come.

He knows how I am about the chickens and yet still told me.

All I could do was to say "I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing that" and left the table.

I am just sick about it and needed to get it out.
Thanks for listening.

I hear you, friend. But I will say this...I am glad you did not have to witness any of it. It sounds like a bear, but they should be asleep....the only other predator that even has a chance at shredding a coop (and not much chance, at that) is a cat. And only a large predator, bear or cat, can shred a coop and take down a yearling calf. I am sorry for all of that....

Heartbreaking to have your work and chickens destroyed in such a manner.

OMG how tragic... I'm so sorry and can feel your pain. We had a terrible coon problem a few years back, lost some of my best birds including a hen I had for 7 years. I know what you're going through.
