Why did I pick THIS for a job?

Find a job where you can work from home. I too am in the computer field and am blessed to work from Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. My office at home looks out over my front yard, right at the barn, where my ducks, chickens, goats and soon to be geese and guineas live. The ducks are so funny in their pool. And the other day, one of the chickens was sitting on one of my horses back. The horse did not seem to care at all.

Or like others have said, maybe you need to change professions.

My son who was a great computer nerd... decided he couldn't stand being stuck at a desk for 8+hrs every day so he gave it up...He is now a bartender and makes almost as much as he was.. It's a great job for him.. He lives at the beach, he is with people all the time, he works afternoons and evenings--(he's a night owl) and he can fish, boat, surf, snorkle, play golf, run during the mornings and early afternoons. It's perfect for him-He is finally happy.. after three yrs. of being sick, unhappy and bored...

I will tell you what I told him--life is too short to be unhappy--go out and find something you would love to do...

my 2nd cousins wife passed away last saturday she was 58, she had cancer, however died of a heart attack. she was the caretaker to her 2 young granddaughters, her daughter passed away a few yrs ago. they were living in a camper at a campground, she died there.

what i think of most when i think of her is this, she was a happy woman, she was happy with nothing. she just went on her way to make the best of everyday with nothing.

maybe we dont need to have so many things, maybe with less things we would need less money and we wouldnt have to spend so much time working to make more money for more things?

i was a singe mother for many yrs , i couldnt afford not to work but i didnt want work to be my life, i wanted a life. i still work part time.

i have this arguement with my mother often, that is, my uncle would refuse to work weekends, and even though they didnt own anything she couldnt understand why he didnt want to work on the weekends to make more money. his reply was, i work 5 days a week 40hrs. my weekends are my time with my kids.

my father worked from sun up to sun down, we had everything, the only time we saw dad was when he took us on vacation, thank god dad is still alive and we get to enjoy him. wouldnt it have been a sin for that man to die working hard to give us everything when what we treasure most is the times with him that we have now.

I agree with you chickn - things won't make people happy. You can have everything your little heart desires but that does not mean you will automatically be happy just for the simple fact that you posess them.

Life is about the journey - not the destination. It's about the day to day stuff, the moments.

At least that is what it is for me. I could go back to full time work and make 2-3 times my current salary - easy. But I don't want to stop being my kids main influence and I don't want to bring home my work with me every night, be tired all the time and not have enough energy to take a genuine interst in my family.

I don't mind being poor if it means my family is rich.

I work in a cubie as well. I schedule patients for tests. My days go by quickly and before I know it, it's Friday. I prefer not to have interaction with others at work. I'm happy.

My wife and I just started our own plumbing company. When we have work, it is something always different, meet new people, problem solving skills, new job site daily etc. It can be smelly, dirty, messy, and folks can be under a lot of stress when the plumbing does not work. But the $$ are great!
I say this because I sometimes envy the cubicle worker...why? Well, it never rains on you, its warm when its cold, and cold when warm etc. Yes I did attend college, U Of I.

Here is a toast to all the Office Space cubicle workers...

No need to go FIND a job where you can work at home, do some planning, if you think you can do it from home, you probably can - only thing is to convince the boss.....

Baby steps... next time you're off sick or on vacation - offer to keep the boat floating by checking in. Make sure you're set up well enough to DO that from home.

I managed to convince my boss a year ago I could not only work from Home, but home would be 3 days DRIVE away from the office.
I had been working toward it anyway, streamlining my job, moving toward less and less paper.

I'm in Finance, and expense auditor. I do everything now on line, I do have to print stuff for my boss now and then, but I can either print to the department printer, or to the printer sitting on his desk.

It can be done, just make a plan and then convince everyone else - perhaps working part time at home, part time in the cubicle.

GOOD LUCK
