Are you saying the birds become unable to walk and then progress to death or are you talking about birds that are walking along and then just stop and keel over dead? How many birds have you lost in this manner? How many birds do you have left? What, if any, other symptoms have you noticed in the birds that have died? How long did it take from first symptom to death?

This just happened to us this morning and we are very sad and trying to figure out why.
We had 3 beautiful hens and when we opened their coop this morning our little friendly Sunny had died. She was less than a year old.
RIP Sunny.

I am so sorry that you lost Sunny. If you tell us a bit more we may be able to help you figure out what happened, unfortunately there is no way to even begin to guess with what we know so far.

What breed was Sunny?
What condition was her body in when you found her?
How are your birds kept, fed, etc?
Had you noticed any changes in Sunny in the recent days?

These are just a few of the things we might need to consider in helping sort out what happened. Anything you can tell us will only help.

I just lost my second hen in a week. No signs of attack. They were australorp hens. They were supposedly about a year old. The first one was quiet the day before -would just lay around - next day was dead. The second one was laying around and when it got up it pooped and it looked like the inside of an egg. The others seem fine. I have 4 more older ones and 15 that are 20 weeks old. I did find an egg the other day that was large and had a lumpy shell. Any ideas on how or why they died. Should we not eat any of the eggs from the others? Thanks.

My chicken lulu died this morning and it was so strange because around 9:20 she was with me snuggling in my lap and my sister found her dead outside around 10:30. lulu had no signs of anything, no cuts,bumps, nothing although her comb was going from its reddish color to purple which is just from the lack of oxygen becuase she had died. I don't know what might of happend becuase it all happend in such a short amount of time and it was devastating because she was so small and our sweetest hen.

I am sorry for all of your losses. It is near 10am and my my 1 yr. old Buff Brahma hen just died died sometime in the past hour or so. The only thing that I noticed was that when I went outside to do a bed check around 10 pm she was not on the roost and she had just laid an egg! I thought this was just a fluke. I have been raising chickens now for going on three years and this is the first time I've ever lost a hen...or had one that laid an egg at night. She had seemed perfectly fine. She free-ranged yesterday with everyone else. So sad.

I had one die yesterday for no reason and then today another one. This one had its head contracted down to its chest. What should I do?

How old are they? How large is their space? What are you feeding them? What breed(s)? Generally speaking, the same breed of chicken usually gets along best. When you mix the breeds there may be some bullying going on. The dominate hen won't let the low "chicken on the totem pike" to get any food/water, How often do you the clean coop? With what? Free range? Watch out for flora that may be poisonous to poultry. If another one dies, ASAP put it in a bag in the freezer and you can have it checked out at an exotic bird office. ($85?)

My Australorp, named Penguin, (about 1 year old) I found her dead this morning... showed no symptoms even the day before. No clue what happened.

It was 4:30 in the morning when my 3 other chickens were BAWK BAWK bGAWWK you know and they just would not shut up. So I went out there only to find that they were looking at Penguin confused and worried about what happened... who knows
