why did the post office lady say this?

Since I live in a very rural area, they are VERY aware and call IMMEDIATELY. They are used to live chicks and hatching eggs arriving and always call!!! It's such a small town that word usually spreads FAST that Deb'll have more eggs to sell in a few months after chicks arrive!! LOL

I live in the city. When I get chicks, they call me as soon as they come in. If it is during business hours they have one mailman that only does Express, they ask if I am home, and he brings them to me in an enclosed A/C and heated van. He is here in less than 10 minutes after they call. If it is not business hours they ask how soon I can get there, and tell me to knock on the back door. I live 5 minutes from the PO, so it is no big deal. Maybe each PO is run differently, and we are just blessed to have good people. Like I said we are in the city, and there are dozens of POs within a few miles of our home, so there are hundreds of postal employees in our area. Maybe it has to do with most of the guys and gals that work at our PO are former military. Hope you get some results from the Postmaster.

She should be drug tested. Maybe she should stay locked up over the weekend with those babies.
I had a shipment to arrive this past Thursday and the post office called
my work, because I was outside and didn't answer my home phone.
I wasn't expecting the chicks until Friday, but aroungd 4 pm they called
and said they would bring them out to me. I live in the rual about 12 miles
from town.
For the Post Office to track me down and bring my chicks to my door steps
a day early was very nice.

She sounds as dumb as a box of rocks! oh my freaking

I ran into that mentality when I had some pigeons mailed to me. They arrived at the Main area post office(Nashville) and when they didn't show up that morning I ask them to check,They said yes they were in Nashville and would be shipped out the following morning to our local office! It was only thirty miles away and the birds had been on the road for three days already with no food or water! I said a few choice words and went the thirty miles and picked them up myself. Postal people are idiots,no wonder they always go "postal"!

There's good and bad examples of people everywhere. I'm sorry you had a bad time, but I sincerely doubt if every employee of the postal service is an idiot. There are bad apples and it's good to know to be alert if live animals or eggs are expected, but plenty mail-peoples try very hard to do a good job.

There are good ones. My regular mailman is great (I met him while he was doing his rounds a year ago). He keeps dog treats in his front pocket and gives them to all the dogs on his route, he will come into the garage and talk to me if I am out there and he sees it open. He trades us his fresh grown produce for ours. He like to go into our backyard every once in a while and say hi to the chickens. He goes out of his way to do his job, if we are expecting something he will keep an eye out, he also will grab his cell phone and call the PO and ask them to give him a call as soon as it arrives, so he can bring it right to us - and we are not talking living things like chicks here, another guy takes care of that. He is so good at his job, and he likes what he does. We gave him a tin of sweets at Christmas, and he came by and thanked us with a shared Christmas prayer. So just keep your eye out for the good ones, I am sure there is at least 1 at every post office.

maybe the worker just wasn't thinking.....I mean good chance when super busy and chatting to someone you just overlook the fact they are live birds.

why not say, "let me explain, they are alive....they can't sit....and have a laugh about it"---no need to go postal on a postal worker!

many of us have DUH moments. no need to string her up!

I am fortunate my little PO always calls and they are basically friends so they do what is needed. And we are a farming type area and they do receive live shipments alot so they know how to handle all that.
