I could even get the kids on TV if they want, they just have to get up early and smile ALOT (no not a baby beauty pagent, I find those creepy). Our boys are really attracive kids, and we got an offer a few years back to be rider VIPS at Legoland (you know when your see people on the rides during the newscasts, or commericials). We made the deal with the kids, they could do it, so long as it's still fun for them. 5 Years later my 8 yr old's been on the news/shoots 5-8 times a year (kid loves legos, and isn't at all shy, so they like to interview him). Gal that used to do PR there, now does PR at Disneyland so...

How old do they have to be before killing them for meat? I really, really, really want to be more self sufficient and I figure quail would be a good way to get meat to put in the freezer. How much space do they need? Is a rabbit hutch big enough? Also, what kind of quail are best as meat birds?

Same here! DH called at lunch time, as usual, and I "casually" asked him, "So, if I raise quail, will you kill them?" He was like, "What?!?" So I told him that many people raise quail to eat and he said, "Sure, I'll dress them out for you." I think he thought I meant he'd most likely just kill them if I brought them here!
I told him to let me do some research on their housing, growth rate, etc. Now that I've got that info, I think I'm HOOKED and will definitely be getting some eggs to put in the 'bator soon!
