Why do hens crow?

I always give my hens about a week or two after a rehoming transition before expecting eggs. AS for this hen crowing,, there is a dominant rooster and he raised her from a chick, she lays eggs and has just now started crowing. She and Jack still get along great so I am so baffled. Ive heard of pseudo-crowing, but this is all out full crowing and it cracks me up.

We have 2 hens that crow all day long! A Bard rock (sp?) and Road Island red. We got them in March 2014 when they were 2 weeks old. Don't expect eggs until August if it's not too hot. I sure hope they are hens and not Roos as am so looking forward to the eggs. We had Silver Wyndots that hardly ever crowed but lost them to some kind of predator. Wish we would have gotten the Wyndots again and not the Bard Rock and Red.

Older hens sometimes crow. Young pullets do not. If yours are only 4 months old they are cockerels. Post pictures of you want to know which are males.

If you have a hen that is crowing, I understand that giving them estrogen can help. Where can you find that? I have had this Americana hen for two years and she has only laid a couple if eggs, Now she is starting to crow! Only a couple of times a day, but it is disturbing. Any ideas?

I have 2 buff orpington hens bothe going i to their secon summer. One has now started to do a loud crow at sunrise(5am) about 3 times a week. We live in town and have close neighbours. How can i stop her from doing this?

I also have a hen that just started crowing. The first time she did it was the day of the solar eclipse, and I thought maybe that had something to do with it. But she did it again this morning. I have read all the responses here and I have one big difference: I have a rooster, and she hangs with him pretty closely, so the theory about her crowing because there is no rooster doesn't apply to my situation. I don't mind her crowing since we are out in the country; it just freaked me out when she did it. I don't know if she lays eggs, as she and the rooster and one more of my hens are free range.

Hi. Here’s a hen I have. I’m 99% sure this is a hen. I’ve recently removed 2 roosters from my egg laying brood to produce edible eggs.
I have 2 videos I’m having a hard time getting them to download on this post. Anyone know how? I could also email or msg it to someone who knows. Sorry for being Elliterate lol.

We have a 1 month old Silver Duckwing Jungle Fowl pullet named Twitch, because she gets nervous head twitches. We took her out to munch on grass with her boyfriend who is a Mille Fleur D'Uccle named Punk, they're unseperatible. They love each other. Well, on that day she crowed for the first time which was cute.

Thought I was going nuts too!! I purchased 10 new chicks this spring and was assured they were all females. And now the last 3 days, 1 of the girls is crowing!! All 10 can hear my Rooster in the other other pen, and I've also purchased a new baby rooster who is in the 10 gal pen, but in another cage, with a turkey.
