In the Brooder
Our alpha hen crows quite a bit. Just now I saw a really cool thing--I noticed that they ALL (6 that free range) froze in place, alert. I realized that they were listening to the red squirrels in the trees who are constantly chattering. One was just chirping regularly, on a beat. After it eventually stopped, the alpha started crowing and they all went about their business. I think the hens have tuned in to the "news reports" from the squirrels who are constantly communicating -- I imagine about hawks? Pretty cool!
