Why do people intentionally break the law?

And who determines what is "right"? What happens when my idea of Right does not match yours? That is the reason for laws--they are society's means of identifying and standardizing Right and Wrong. Is it perfect? And are all laws fair and just? Of course not, but as was stated earlier, it is a far better system than anything else available.

this kina depends on where you live "right" is me doing whatever i want until I endanger someone else or interfere with their right to life liberty or pursuit of happiness !!! I have been doing a real good job with this the last half a century I am going to just keep doing like i have been doing the next 50 LOL the government need to keep their noses out of the peoples business only a coupla things they are allowed to do they overstep their boundaries on a daily basis.

well, if the worst thing i ever do is keep some chickens under the radar, than i am not doing too bad as a human being!

Okay, and when your right interferes with their definiton of their pursuit of happiness?

"Gee, it would make me unable to be happy if I had to look at ____, listen to _____, smell ____, etc." Laws level the playing field to what the typical person would find objectionable. Variances allow adjustments for specific, individual situations.

Yes, who determines what is right indeed? I believe the point you are missing is those breaking the law are in essence pushing to redefine "typical". It does make me unable to be happy if I have to look at penned up dogs that get little attention, listen to them bark all night long, and small their feces just because it is "typical" and that is the pet most go with so as not to rock the boat. The breaking of the law is the most appropriate form of protest for some. Have you every heard the saying "You cant fight city hall"? For some that may be enough, others have come to realize that you can though. Some folks have neither the time, patience or demeanor to fight bureaucracy on its own terms. They choose direct opposition instead.

I just kept seeing these posts over and over and over about people whining and complaining about having to get rid of their beloved pet chickens when they KNEW AHEAD OF TIME (I am NOT talking about the people that did not know) that it was illegal!! and I just wondered what DRIVES THEM to do it?

I seriously didn't think it would even become this long of a thread, much less rile people up.

So if I move next door to you and think it's right to bring my nine dogs, three geese and 45 some odd chickens it's ok with you? My dogs have a howl fest at about 2-5 hour intervals starting at 6am, last one about.... hmmm, depends on time of year, sometimes as late as midnight. I freely think that everyone should enjoy howls and geese screaming.

Actually, my neighbor has several dogs, and yes there is a howl fest, and yes I can hear her geese from here too. I can also hear the jets flying by and the dragsters on the race track a mile away under the right weather conditions.

I choose to monitor my animals and control their barking to daytime hours, out of respect for my neighbors, and I keep them in my yard, again out of respect for my neighbors. I choose to do what's right and be a good neighbor, not because of the law, there isn't one that says my dogs shouldn't bark, I choose to respect my neighbors because it's the right thing to do.

My favorite law is the one that allows me to shoot any animals off leash who have come onto my property threatening my livestock.

I agree with you about the dogs and geese and such I was just trying to make a point that what YOU think is right and what I think is right may be different from what another person thinks is right, and this is why there are laws.

I also don't let my critters make noise at night, not out of respect for neighbors because I have none that they would bother, they are too far away, but because I only want them to bark if it's IMPORTANT (moose, bear, robber, etc) and I don't want them keeping ME up!! lol

I also don't shoot off leash animals, I go GET them. So far I've been lucky enough that the dogs off leash have just been happy go lucky with stupid irresponsible owners. Remember, I live in Chickaloon and own the general store here - can't just go shooting willy nilly with people around. At night, that's another store. But I still would prefer to contain the dog, take it to the pound and let the owner pay a fine.

I have an idea of where you live

wrong war; for that war, the appropriate song to carry out your point would be Dixie. And since that would be (in my opinion) quite controversial, how about we say Yankee Doodle.
