Why do people intentionally break the law?

Actually, my neighbor has several dogs, and yes there is a howl fest, and yes I can hear her geese from here too. I can also hear the jets flying by and the dragsters on the race track a mile away under the right weather conditions.

I choose to monitor my animals and control their barking to daytime hours, out of respect for my neighbors, and I keep them in my yard, again out of respect for my neighbors. I choose to do what's right and be a good neighbor, not because of the law, there isn't one that says my dogs shouldn't bark, I choose to respect my neighbors because it's the right thing to do.

My favorite law is the one that allows me to shoot any animals off leash who have come onto my property threatening my livestock.

I agree with you about the dogs and geese and such I was just trying to make a point that what YOU think is right and what I think is right may be different from what another person thinks is right, and this is why there are laws.

I also don't let my critters make noise at night, not out of respect for neighbors because I have none that they would bother, they are too far away, but because I only want them to bark if it's IMPORTANT (moose, bear, robber, etc) and I don't want them keeping ME up!! lol

I also don't shoot off leash animals, I go GET them. So far I've been lucky enough that the dogs off leash have just been happy go lucky with stupid irresponsible owners. Remember, I live in Chickaloon and own the general store here - can't just go shooting willy nilly with people around. At night, that's another store. But I still would prefer to contain the dog, take it to the pound and let the owner pay a fine.

I have an idea of where you live

I'm thankful for a country that has laws, a state that has laws, and a city that has laws. I'm also thankful to be able to watch and listen to those that run for President, Governor, and mayor, then vote for the ones that I believe will do best for us. We have city council..if we want to bring up anything we think is unfair. If enough people would do this, they are willing to take a closer look at what they can do to change things. I'm pretty sure if the city wanted to put a stop to our back yard chickens..they would hear about it, from plenty of us chicken folk!

My CCRs forbid them, but I don't particularly care. We live on several acres, the next closest house is at least 1/4 mile away. I have 5 chickens in a spacious Chicken Villa (well, I'll have 5 when I get rid of the 8 wk old Welsummer rooster). My CCRs also forbid satellite dishes (which everyone has), clothes lines, solar panels (which we have) and "outbuildings" of any kind (like, oh, say, the small shop the spouse is building).

We've tried amending the CCRs, but they way they are written it takes a unanimous vote, and there are several absentee lot owners who won't even respond to letters (such as the letter the subdivision sent out asking them to contact us because of fire code changes in the area which meant trees had to be taken down along many lots and the fines that the county would assess if it wasn't done).

because I wanted them, I thought I would just have 5 for eggs, I have the land and could have applied but if I got it passed it only allows 1 per acre. I never intended to get so into them it just happened. all my neighbors are fine with it, it is just other people who live no where near me. I would have moved a long time agoto a farm but I have had my hands tied with personal matters compleatly out of my control.

boils down to, I wanted them, I got them. now I will be an adult and deal with my situation but it is simply for selfish reasons. Personally I allow myself to judge what I think right and wrong is and although I do try to follow the law to the best of my ability I make my own choices when it comes to petty stuff such as what I think these laws are. I will be moving soon though and before I choose a place I will be checking every possible law and zoning rule before hand.

In addition if the food in the store was something I was wiling to feed my family I probably would not spend all my time tending gardens and birds at all.

For the same reason that people rob, rape, murder, steal, graffiti, jaywalk, speed, litter... BECAUSE THEY WANT TO AND DON'T GIVE A CRAP IF IT INFRINGES ON ANYONE ELSE OR NOT.

Did you know that in some places, the banning of chickens, and specifically roosters, was to discourage cockfighting? It was easier to ban chickens than to catch cock fighters in the act.

First, let me just say that I've read several of your other posts and find myself agreeing with you on most issues. This is just one we look at differently.

If you choose to drive 55 than that is your decision and I respect it. Most people simply don't. I know it's not exactly a perfect example since some would say 65 is risking other people's lives. Here in CT the speed limit changed from 55 to 65 in many places.

I also understand many people won't break the law because they tend to be the ones who get caught while many others seem to get away with it all the time. "Better safe than sorry" does work for many people.

The trouble with laws are some need to be broken before progress is made. History has countless examples where laws were broken, be it intentionally or not, a public outcry was created, and the laws were dropped or changed.

Finally what about the many laws that are unconstitutional? Our constitution is the ultimate set of laws for our nation. So many thousands of laws defy what are constitutional liberties.

In my own personal life I follow the laws of a God of my understanding, then a set of laws based on my own interpretation of morality. As long as the laws written by man don't conflict with those then I pay attention to them on a case by case basis. Personally I believe there are too many laws and our personal liberties are being trampled on.

This is off the subject but you all may find this interesting, I did.
Did you know that it is against the law to catch the rain? That's right, the water company owns the right to the rain. I found this out AFTER I made two 50 gallon rain barrels to catch the rain. Think I care about that law? HA!! I continue to catch the rain so I guess that makes me a thief.
