Why do roosters crow?

If you mean me. Yes. i was raising fighting cocks. And i still do. however i do not fight them. I love gamefowls color. does that matter im a fancier of them and that i think they look better than any other breed? I also have old english game bantams for Show.

I was just out in the barn and thought ...Why exactly do Roosters crow? I came in and Googled the ?....and guess where I ended up???

Yep!!! BYC....What was I thinking...

I should have come to the place I love first.... Love the thread...Makes perfect sense to me....

Since they can't Bark, Laugh, Yell, Rejoice, Complain...they Crow!!!

I'll add one...Crowing by the Door..."Hey Lady" Got any old cat food in there you don't want"

Read recently that roosters have at least 50 different vocalizations that they can make. The noise they make to warn of a ground predator is not the same as the one for an aerial threat. The one for a coyote is not the same as the one for a cat, etc.
My rooster crows to challenge a neighboring rooster - a mile away! To call the girls, to let me know someone is here, because he feels like it.
His newest trick is to walk completely around the house, crowing the whole time. He thinks he's going to get me to come outside and I might happen to bring a treat when I do. He's wrong. Good thing I adore the booger or the nap interruptions would be dangerous to his health.

Wow, its gone up. My research back in the day indicated it was 35, give or take.
Still better than dogs and cats, combined.

So why do chicken roosters crow? Same reasons human ones do.

Trying to find which magazine I read it in. More than likely it was in Backyard Poultry magazine, since that's the one I read religiously. I don't keep them though. I pass them along to friends. Might check the website later.
ETA: Yep, just checked the website. It was in the December/January, 2008 issue of Backyard Poultry magazine. Interesting article.

why do people yell? why do dogs bark? why do cats hiss?

i was sooo happy that no one else had taken my sarcastic remark. kinda does give an answer though.

It does. Suns rise, tides ebb and flow, and roosters crow.

Spend time with a rooster and you soon realize you're in the company of a bona-fide force of nature.

Kinda humbling, if you ask me.

I know, I read that too. And I have heard the difference between an air warning or ground warning. These creatures are amazing. That is too funny, I want your boy! We have ended up with another boy. Our last one had to be rehomed and then he was accidentally killed

He was a big boy though, so I am praying with all my might that this little guy won't be heard. I am so in love with him. He is nine weeks old and he still fits in the palm of my hand. He is just feathers
