Why Do SSS

Couple of things pop into my mind..... if you SSS (shoot shovel and shutup) the man won't be insulted because he doesn't know...... no court fees because they don't know and their kids wouldn't be upset because they don't know...... SSS stands for more than just shooting a dog.

Sounds like your situation would be perfect for SSS if there are problem neighbors....... This is what happened to a BYC member when she tried to get a dog in attack mode? https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=181285&p=1

is going through physical therapy now.

The kids would know their dog was gone.

I am just thinking about how much time I would spend looking for my dog and wondering about where he is; posting ads, calling the humane society, etc. If someone shoots my dog and is within their rights to do so, at least let me know so I don't go crazy with worry. I am not perfect - my dog gets out now and again. I think it would be a tad harsh for someone to just shoot him and not bother to own up to it.

But then, I would never shoot my neighbor, burn his house down, kill his animals, etc.

Each case is different. I don't think there is only one answer here. I just know how I would feel if my dog suddenly disappeared.

all i say is hv some common desense and go talk to the person before u sss their dog it is illegle to shoot another persons domestic animals u must be pretty pathetic if u can shoot a mans dog but dont hv the balls to tell him thats my opinion im not defending bad dogs im just saying do the right thing and confront the person the first time and then do what u think is right i dont believe if ur an onest person u would hv enough balls to tell the feller u shot their dog u boyde as a foster parent u should show more compasion for life no matter whos life it is just be civile do to others as u want to be treated thats all im off to work maybe shoot a few stray dogs on my to work hell their running loose lol im kidding troy

Please stop calling people names and saying they're cold hearted. With all due respect, you are a candidate for SSS because you would just be as rude to somone in real life as you are here. It's unfortunate, but if your dogs wandered on my property and started attacking my animals, I'd shoot them and never talk to you about it. The "just because they r doing whats in their nature" along with the name calliing kind of seals the deal. And there's NOTHING you can do about it.

You can come knocking on my door, but the police would not be with you digging in my yard. They'd give you a citation for letting your dogs run at large. Here, where I live, I could have you yourself arrested for trespassing if you dared come to my door with that attitude.

Plus, just because they're microchipped does NOT mean they can be found underground. The chip needs to actually be scanned. Those devices are for helping lost dogs be found, not finding dogs burned, buried or otherwise disposed of.

In addition, someone who lets their dog roam to damage other people's property can't think too much of those dogs and have no reason to whine about it when they don't come home one day. I know people who think $750 is a measley little amount compared to what they paid for their dogs, and their dogs roamed freely daily until I told them I'd shoot them. Now I only see them once in a while, when the owners feel like letting them roam, and I never let my guard down.

It's not that I don't have the guts to deal with such neighbors, in fact, it would be hard for me to NOT tell them I shot their dogs. The fact is, I don't want to bother with them.

I always try to give the dog owner a warning. First one is for free, its up to them if they want to compensate or not. 2nd offense, the dog disappears. I have "pig wired" my place to cut down on such problems, but they still do occur. Generally once the animal tastes blood, they will be back. My next door neighbor has two Irish setters. I stuck one in the dirt between their legs withthe 06 and beat them to their home practically. The guy wrote me a check for damages and the next day built a huge fence around his backyard. No more problems. Another neighbor had a boxer and a pit. He did nothing as he didn't want to be cruel and fence or kennel his dogs. The pit cornered my wife on the front porch growling at her so she shot him. I caught the boxer the next week trying to dig in. After about a week of them being gone, they bought a chocolate lab. I figured he was next, but they moved.

do to others as u want to be treated

I guess I am a hardass. My dog got into the neighbors chickens. He let me have the first one for free. I told him to shoot if he saw her there (she on occasion breaks out of her confinement).
