We have new neighbors who put up a good sized 5ft dog pen with barbed wire for 3 GSD, we have a 4 ft fence. Now these are not the medium GSDs but the large with total height of around 4 ft. So it is obvious that the dogs can jump my fence. For the last week I have been removing their miniature pug from our yard which is small enough to go under the fence. The sad part is they leave the dogs to run loose while they are not even home.
Well today, a few hours ago, I look out the window and one of the GSDs is in the yard chasing chickens. I grab the .38 run out the door and drop a couple rounds into the ground at my feet just to stop the chicken chasing. I then chase the dog to a corner of the yard to try to get it out, or destroy it. It growls at me and in a moment of weakness I drop 3 more rounds into the ground instead of the animal. It hastily leaves the yard while I reload.
The first thing I did after this was to notify my other neighbors with children playing to get their kids inside. And then take count of my birds, to discover the loss of one of my ducks brutally murdered. Not only did I let my duck's painful death go, I endangered children in the area by letting this viscous animal go free. I am now disappointed with myself, I love my dogs and I let that get in the way of common sense.
My other neighbor and I went to confront the landlord as the dog owners are not home. The landlords were home but would not answer the door. You can bet when I see this animal again it will be SSS. If the owner does not have enough decency to care for the animals they do not deserve any consideration of being notified.
