My parents raised chickens when I was little, but for me I don't think that had anything to do with it. I'm a gardener and I really always love seeing the chicks at the feed stores, but since I live in the city I never really thought about having them. Finally several years ago I decided I didn't want to miss the experience so I bought a handful and after that I was hooked. I've had my battles with coons, fox, weather and have about pitched in the towel a few times but I really like how they are so industrious, working in the soil just like me, I always come back for more. Plus there is the added advantage of not needing to buy fertilizer for my roses. I personally don't eat my chickens, they are strictly pets with names.
