Why do you have Chickens??

every since i was little i wanted to live on a farm with my horse and have some chickens but i never got there until this year. we got chickens for the eggs and meat, because we love them, because they're hilarious, because they're a staple of farm life, because they're relaxing...

I don't have chickens....yet... but I just think they're really cool and make great pets.

My parents raised chickens when I was little, but for me I don't think that had anything to do with it. I'm a gardener and I really always love seeing the chicks at the feed stores, but since I live in the city I never really thought about having them. Finally several years ago I decided I didn't want to miss the experience so I bought a handful and after that I was hooked. I've had my battles with coons, fox, weather and have about pitched in the towel a few times but I really like how they are so industrious, working in the soil just like me, I always come back for more. Plus there is the added advantage of not needing to buy fertilizer for my roses. I personally don't eat my chickens, they are strictly pets with names.

I have no idea!

I saw some in a gardening book & mentioned it to the family. No one talked me out of it. I ordered a *whole lot* of baby chicks from a hatchery. They lived! They became my BIG HOBBY & took over a big chunk of my life.

Now, I am on board with the wholesome food, sustainable living line of thought, but I have to confess that I was thinking "lawn ornament"/ 4-H project, initially.

I keep chickens because as someone who lives in town I wanted my children to be as close to the earth as possible and keeping chickens and rabbits and a garden keeps me and my family grounded. Chickens represent life in more ways than one. I love my chickens and their eggs are the best!

I dunno. I never really asked myself that. My Mom grew up on a farm and she liked them. When I was growing up my Grandparents had chicks and they would let me pet them. My Mom got our first chickens in 2002. I love them so much, I would never really think myself as a chicken person. But actually I prefer them more then any other pet.

My husband bought a few after he started talking to a friend at work who raises chickens and buying eggs from him. My husband loves eggs, so he decided to raise a few of his own.

After he ordered our first 9, we realized that we really enjoyed taking care of the chickens and raising them. We have both bought more since then and are really enjoying them!
