I have had orps before and currently own a blue X buff hen. They are an okay breed that I like to have one or two running around due to having owned an awesome buffo rooster.... LOL we named Buffo. I have some pullet chicks for sale but no one in my area seems to like orps so they might be added to my flock. Buff orp roosters I can sell soon as they come in and I have one or two people ask for pullets. I don't see why hens are unwanted in my area. I do plan on getting a white or black maybe even blue orp for my blue x buff hen.

I had been thinking about raising chickens for a long time when I decided one day that I wanted to raise them and teach my kids to raise them. I typed raising chickens in my search bar, and I found backyardchickens.com. I had no clue of what breed of chicken to get, let alone anything else about chickens. I started looking at pictures of coops, and pictures of breeds of chickens. It was Buff Hooligans pictures that made up my mind. I hoped that when I went to the feed store, they would have Buff Orpingtons. And they did!!! I got two Buffs, and then got two RIR on the advising of the man at the feed store due to their laying abilities. I absolutely love them, and I know I will get more eventually. I may even be interested in some blue later on;) although right now they scream a lot when I pick them up...I hope that wont last. I have been loving on them a lot so maybe they will eventually come up to me like everyone else's do.

does anyone know how to tell what their sexes are? and when? I hope I didnt end up with four roosters!!!!!!!!

Well, as one person put it. They are very majestic. I throughly enjoyed just watching Blue Boy and his girls this evening in the yard. He is such a friendly Roo too but always looking after his flock. My 15 month old grandson followed him all around in the yard today. He is so intrigued with him. So Roger here is Blue Boy, Father of Suede and Grandfather to many of your Birds on BYC

bama, that colored roo is unbelievable!! To me there will no other birds except orps!!
I may end up having to wait till next spring to order more eggs to just get a couple good hatches but even though I am not a patient person, LOL, I must have these birds. LOL
All the photos are just wonderful..."eye candy" is correct.
