Why would someone do this???

im sorry this happened to you but if this were to happen to me and my chickens are on a property that if there motion light goes off they get the gun out and investigate they have a sign that says legal gunman no trespassing again im truely sorry and im glad that you found some of them alive

Sorry for your trouble and loss, I have a wireless motion detector mounted to a tree in my yard that activates a buzzer in my house, If that buzzer goes off at night I'm out in seconds with my 9mm and a spotlight, and I will sss! I got it from northern tool for 80 bucks and it's worth every penny. Living away from the masses you are on your own to take a stand and protect what is yours! Today it's your livestock next it could be you! Be ready Don't be a victim.

Two years ago we had some vandalism here. We got a driveway alarm, but they don't have to be used for just driveways - they can be used on any property section; we have one going across the front of our property. When someone or something crosses the invisible beam, an alarm chimes in your house.
It would seem this might be better than a motion light if you actually want to bust who's doing it.

this is the kind we got:

It's sort of a pain for animals such as deer, if they keep crossing it, they'll keep you up all night! But you could fasten this to a tree or pole, hidden, across the front of your coop.
Sorry this happened- it's such a violation and scary feeling. I'm nervous about my hens now and now I'm considering putting a padlock on the run itself along with the door.....hate to sound paranoid, but after reading your story, it is so scary.

First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss

I would try either a baby monitor or get some wild life cams. Also, Call the police. At least they'd have your complaint on file.

You mentioned dogs being involved... One of the first things I thought of was dog fighting. They "train" dogs with other prey animals... chickens rabbits - what ever. They will also bait the dogs with other animals

I would definitely take steps to try and find out who is doing this, especially if it isn't the first time... Good luck!

Thats what I have also, It takes the element of surprise and gives it to you, They are the ones that will be surprised when you light them up with a spot and there is a barrel pointed at them!

Just wanted to say to keep the receipt for the baby monitor if you buy one. We bought the 800-900' one and it wouldn't work for us. We're no where near that far from our barnyard but guess the "proper" conditions didn't exist here. I am sorry you are going through this and hope you find some resolution soon.

Hey all...just got back online. The guys putting up our steel post fence cut our phone line!

Just got it back up today. We've got the main fence and gates now, that will help discourage people, I think. Plus, our horses are running inside the fence, and they are super curious, and not overly friendly. If someone pulls up they go running to the front of the house and stand there! LOL! It's like 3 giant guard dogs.

I discovered the other day that the 40 pound bag of food I bought is also missing, so whoever stole the babies, at least took the food to feed them.

I feel sorry for someone trying to break in now. My horses were all rescues, so they like us, and don't tolerate other people around.

Thanks everyone for the support. Everyone seems to be healing up well.

Shelly
