WHY?

I wanted to add something about the post about recruiters. Most recruiters are not sales people by nature and they are in that post because the military put them there. It is usually not a duty station that is requested. They are taught how to close a sale, simple as that.

As anyone in recruitment or sales knows, you spend your time talking about the positives and only bring in the negatives when asked. There are negatives about military life but no more than the negatives around any job. Overall, the life of a miltary person or family member of someone in the military is a good life. It isn't always fun, but there are many positives to the military. Too bad war is the unfortunate part of it.

But, back to the OP, you are right, recuriters are not liars. They are simply doing their job and telling about the good things

You know girls if it is not some civilian or the army itself giving us a hard time, it is the teenage girls he has to deal with and be nice too.
You would not believe what teen girls will do nowadays. They are rank hunting it aint funny no more.

Are there some recruiters that lie? Undoubtedly. Are there people in every profession and walk of life who lie? Undoubtedly. Recruiters are human beings, and part of their job is to present the military life in the best possible light. If an individual goes to a job interview in the civilian world, it is his responsibility to ask ALL the right questions to which he needs answers, not only the ones he's looking forward to hearing. Anyone considering joining the military is responsible for asking ALL the right questions as well, about both the positive and negative aspects of military service. BTW, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to every military service person and their families. Our nation is blessed because of your sacrifice. Our family honors you and thanks you for making our country a safer place to live. God bless each of you.

My DH actually has told people they should go to college before they join the army. As an example my DH was the one who put ex-Florida Gator Toni Joiner in the army.He knew him back when he was a senior out of Haines City . Toni thought about going active duty but DH told him be would be stupid to turn a gator scholarship down. From what i remember Toni joined for the Army national guard or reserve and had the disclaimer in his contract that he would not have to serve if he got ..... cant remember the rest.

Your husband and the other recruiters all perform a valuable service for our country and for people looking for employment in these tough economic times. My son just enlisted after graduating with a B.S. I NEVER would have pegged my son as military but one of his high school classmates told him that the Navy had his dream job. He talked to a couple of recruiters in different branches and went with the guy who was the most real & down to earth. There are good opportunities in our military services. We have another son in the Army deployed right now and a nephew who has done two active tours in the middle east. Don't let the stupid people get you down. By-the-by some of the local FFA & 4-H groups are good sources for livestock caretakers when you want/need to get away.

In ever sector of life there are some good and some bad.Maby the recruiters they have come across did lie or exaggerated the truth.

In the world we now live in I have nothing but the deepest respect for anyone in our all volunteer military. This includes everyone from the lowest grunt to the top brass and anyone in between ( like recruiters). I got a really nice e-mail recently about how much our service men and women really appreciate just a simple thank you. It is not about politics. I think anyone , democrat or republican , should be humbled by the fact that so many young people are willing to make sacrifices for their country so that we can keep the freedoms that so many people take for granted. You will never hear me badmouth any branch of the service or anyone in it and I think others should at least show them due respect whether they agree with our current deployments overseas or not. God bless our men and women in uniform and those who have given so selflessly for our country!

My father was a Marine recruiter, he was also in the Korean war at age 18, and in Vietnam twice when I was growing up. He was dedicated to his job and this country. I remember how very stressful it was to meet his "quota" of enlistments each month. I remember his anger when he found out that a recruit had been lied to by another recruiter, he did not believe in lying about anything. I also recall his concern for the young people he dealt with on a day to day basis, him helping them to figure out what to do with their lives, encouraging them to study hard and graduate from school, counseling them when they were looking to escape some problem at home by joining up. I remember the tears when one of the kids he was working with died in an automobile accident or when a soldier came home in a flag draped casket and he had to stand color guard at the funeral. My memories of his job as a recruiter didn't involve deceit... they are memories of a job that helped people find direction... of compassion and a passion for doing the right thing for you and I... and yes love for this country and all that it stands for.
