Why's my rice not cooking?

The ratio of rice to water for any sort of "instant" rice does vary from product to product, but with real rice it is always 1 part rice to 2 parts water (or other liquid). Add in about a tablespoon of butter, more if you're making a LOT.

Generall I would prefer to cook on gas. But it was not available when this neighborhood was being developed 40 years ago. (There was a moritorium on running gas lines to new areas from sometime in the late 50's early 60's until the late 80's). Some people here who have remodeled and want gas appliances have plumbed for large propane tanks.

I did have a gas stove in Germany that I did not use. THe flame was either so tiny that it would take days to warm anything or about 6-8" tall

not my idea of a safe appliance. THat's when I bought my first microwave. I already had an electric hot plate burner.
 
I do like cooking rice in a pot that has a glass lid. You can look in and see how it's doing, without lifting the lid. Sometimes I pick it up and tilt it, to see if any liquid will run to the side, when it's getting close to the end of the time.
 
Use a decent quality sauce pan with a good fitting lid. Follow the directions on the package. Let it cook on low for the allotted amount of time. Works every time.

That is if you don't mess with it by taking the lid off or stirring it or anything like that.

Hi! Yeah, the pans are new and flat on the bottom...
This dang stove has sucked since day 1....

Rice cooker.. $15.00 somewhere on sale!! works great!!! Love it, to add spices, usually curry powder of some sort...

Never had a pot or pan with a glass lid.. Love my pots n pans.. Hubby bought them over 5 years ago for me.. Will have for another 20 I hope.. Next ones will have a glass lid.. Now that I know this..
