I have a rice cooker going all day (on the warm setting) on many days...gotta agree it's the way to go. It's virtually fail proof with a little fine tuning to what you like and it works great when adding frozen veggies to rice in the last couple of minutes for use as is or for later stirfrys, and also for for browning certain veggies or meat in it then adding rice/broth/what have you for all kinds of great dishes...plus it can be used for cooking other foods quickly besides just rice...like chicken/meat dishes, herbed veggies, etc....nothing fancy needed in the cooker...just a basic rice cooker with the cook & warm setting is really all that's needed.
I always cover the rice dishes in the oven so they can steam. My mil would soak rice in salt water and then rinse before putting it into the boiling water.Turned out perfect everytime she made it. I have been having good luck cooking all types of rice except the white stuff, which always gets turned into mush.Makes a good rice pudding though!
When I cook for the dogs I don't care how soft and mushy the rice gets.Better that way for them, but I really dislike a clump of rice for the family. With the salt soak/rinse it has turned out well.
I think we all have that one item that everyone else seems to get to work....except me.
For me, it is mashed taters. I can manage to burn them no matter if I am standing right there, have a lake of water or am just using a candle (or so it seems) to boil them.
(I have a stash of Costco instant taters so if I mess up....no one knows)
Perfect rice is easy done this way.
measure 2 cups of broth into saucepan with tight fitting lid. I add a teaspoon of butter as well. Bring to a boil.
Add 1 cup of rice and stir it around. Put the lid on the pot. Turn down the heat to the lowest it will go. Set timer to 20 mins exactly. Do NOT lift the lid to check rice during the 20 mins.

JUST A GUESS...perhaps the liquid is too hot when you add the rice. I place my brown rice in a pan add 2 cups of broth to 1 cup of rice. The broth is COLD when I add to the rice. I let cook
...usually takes 45 minutes. Good Luck. Regards, Aria
