Chapter 10
months later
Moon drifted to sleep as the moonlight stood over the prairie. Lunar went to sleep standing beside Moon.
Sapphire nuzzled Moon, She smiled happily. She looked over at Lunar. "Who's that?" She asked.
Moon was not awakened as he was in a deep sleep. Lunar slept too.
Star watched as the herd drifted off to sleep.
Sapphire, who was still awake, nudged Star.
Star turned to Sapphire with a smile.
Sapphire smiled.
Star watched her herd, then she nickered and moved away. She came back after a while with a colt and a filly.
Moon nickered to his family.
Star nickered softly. "Sasha and Shaun are their names."
Cerulean had made herself scarce. When she returned to the herd, she also had two fillies following her, one blue roan, the other bay like Moon.
Star nickered to the returning Cerulean.
Moon nickered to his new family.
Sapphire walked off. About one hour later she came back, with a little bay filly following.
Moon whinnied happily. "What's her name?" he asked.
Sapphire looked at her filly for a while, thinking. "Crystal," She nickered.
Crystal crow hopped.
Moon nuzzled his foal gently. He smiled contentedly.
Crystal looked at her father, curiously. She sniffed his nose.
"I'm your father, Moon," he said. "You look just like me!"
Crystal smiled.
Sapphire watched, never taking her eyes off of Crystal.
Moon was so happy he couldn't believe it. He was a father. "Well," he said, "you have a half sister and brother. Sasha and Shaun. "
Crystal bickered in delight. She was so happy to have some foals to play with.
Moon nickered to Sasha and Shaun. Sasha came running over when she saw Crystal. "Hello!" she said to Crystal.
Cerulean stood nearby, two newborn fillies standing beside her.
When Moon saw them he came running over.
Cerulean moved in front of her twins, her ears slightly backed. She liked Moon, but instincts told her not to trust a stud, any stud, immediately.
Sapphire looked at Cerulean, her ears pinned back. "He's not going to hurt them," She snorted.
Crystal crow hopped around her father, Moon.
Moon nuzzled Crystal. He looked at his twins. "What's their names?" he asked.
Cerulean bared her teeth at Sapphire. "I'll be the judge of that." She looked at Moon. "I haven't named them yet. I don't know what to call them."
For now, the mare called them Hungry and Hungrier.
"Don't be so mean to her," the lead stallion commanded. He looked softly at his foals. "How about one of them named Turquoise?" he suggested.
Sapphire snorted.
Crystal nuzzled into her mother.
Moon gave Sapphire that look like, "Don't start anything" and he reached down to warmly blow on Crystal.
Star nickered softly. Sasha walked to stand near Moon nickering softly.
Sapphire snorted again. "I'm not," She stated.
Crystal closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth against her face.
Sasha ran around joyously.
Sapphire walked over to Star. She didn't yet trust Cerulean around her foal cause she didn't known her for long, but she trusted Star. "This is Crystal," she bickered.
Moon looked warmly at Cerulean and her foals and then Sapphire and her foal and then at Star and her foals.
Lunar looked enviously at the eight. She knew she was having one soon, but she wanted to have it now. Just then she felt a kick.
Moon looked at the herd.
Cerulean looked at the blue roan filly. "That'd be a good name for her," she looked at the blood bay filly. "Not sure about her, though."
Turquoise and her yet unnamed twin moved around their dam to stared up at their sire.
Moon looked at them smiling. "Chocolate?" he said. "Are they fillies?"
Sapphire looked at him. "Go play with your sire," She told Crystal.
Crystal nodded and happily cantered over to Moon.
Moon looked at his with his nostrils flared. He waited for Cerulean's response.
Crystal looked up at him, waiting for him to play.
Moon nickered to her.
Cerulean dipped her head. "I like those names." She looked at the fillies then at Moon. "Yes, they are both fillies."
Turquoise and Chocolate were moving nearer toward Moon. Cerulean either didn't notice or didn't mind.
Crystal looked at her sisters. "Hi," She said to them.
Turquoise turned to Crystal. Chocolate didn't but said, "Hi."
"I'm Crystal," She said.
Moon watched his three foals.
Lunar swished her tail, her back turned. She was looking at the blue February sky.
Crystal felt weird. All the other foals had a twin, and she didn't.
Moon began galloping around.
Lunar turned her head when she saw and heard Moon.
Chocolate squeaked softly and reached out to gum her twin's neck.
Moon came to a stop and looked at Lunar. Lunar looked at the ground and felt another spasm.
Star nickered softly, watching as Shaun trotted around looking at the other foals.
Cerulean nickered to her foals then walked toward Star.
Sapphire, who was still standing by star, watched her foal.
Crystal came over and started to nurse.
Star smiled to Sapphire and Cerulean.
Cerulean stood with her eyes closed, while Chocolate and Turquoise mingled with the other foals.
Chocolate moved to nurse, while Turquoise sniffed Shaun.
Crystal got her fill. She walked back over to her sisters.
Shaun turned to sniff Turquoise back.
Turquoise squeaked softly, touching her muzzle to Shaun's.
Shaun touched her muzzle and smiled, squeaking softly.
Turquoise squeaked and darted aside. She'd spotted Chocolate approaching Shaun from behind.
The dark bay filly poked Shaun's rump with her muzzle.
Turquoise looked at Crystal and squeaked cheerfully.
Shaun squealed and crow hopped, turning to face Chocolate.
Chocolate squeaked and crow-hopped sideways, pawing at the air.
Crystal sighed. No one was playing with her. She felt sad and went to lay in the sun.
Shaun neared Chocolate, sniffing her.
Chocolate stopped pawing and sniffed Shaun.
Shaun squealed playfully and nudged Chocolate, turning to run in a chase game.
Five beautiful foals were born that day.
