Chapter 10

months later

Moon drifted to sleep as the moonlight stood over the prairie. Lunar went to sleep standing beside Moon.
Sapphire nuzzled Moon, She smiled happily. She looked over at Lunar. "Who's that?" She asked.
Moon was not awakened as he was in a deep sleep. Lunar slept too.
Star watched as the herd drifted off to sleep.
Sapphire, who was still awake, nudged Star.
Star turned to Sapphire with a smile.
Sapphire smiled.
Star watched her herd, then she nickered and moved away. She came back after a while with a colt and a filly.
Moon nickered to his family.
Star nickered softly. "Sasha and Shaun are their names."
Cerulean had made herself scarce. When she returned to the herd, she also had two fillies following her, one blue roan, the other bay like Moon.
Star nickered to the returning Cerulean.
Moon nickered to his new family.
Sapphire walked off. About one hour later she came back, with a little bay filly following.
Moon whinnied happily. "What's her name?" he asked.
Sapphire looked at her filly for a while, thinking. "Crystal," She nickered.

Crystal crow hopped.
Moon nuzzled his foal gently. He smiled contentedly.
Crystal looked at her father, curiously. She sniffed his nose.
"I'm your father, Moon," he said. "You look just like me!"
Crystal smiled.

Sapphire watched, never taking her eyes off of Crystal.
Moon was so happy he couldn't believe it. He was a father. "Well," he said, "you have a half sister and brother. Sasha and Shaun. "
Crystal bickered in delight. She was so happy to have some foals to play with.
Moon nickered to Sasha and Shaun. Sasha came running over when she saw Crystal. "Hello!" she said to Crystal.
Cerulean stood nearby, two newborn fillies standing beside her.
When Moon saw them he came running over.
Cerulean moved in front of her twins, her ears slightly backed. She liked Moon, but instincts told her not to trust a stud, any stud, immediately.
Sapphire looked at Cerulean, her ears pinned back. "He's not going to hurt them," She snorted.

Crystal crow hopped around her father, Moon.
Moon nuzzled Crystal. He looked at his twins. "What's their names?" he asked.
Cerulean bared her teeth at Sapphire. "I'll be the judge of that." She looked at Moon. "I haven't named them yet. I don't know what to call them."
For now, the mare called them Hungry and Hungrier.
"Don't be so mean to her," the lead stallion commanded. He looked softly at his foals. "How about one of them named Turquoise?" he suggested.
Sapphire snorted.

Crystal nuzzled into her mother.
Moon gave Sapphire that look like, "Don't start anything" and he reached down to warmly blow on Crystal.

Star nickered softly. Sasha walked to stand near Moon nickering softly.
Sapphire snorted again. "I'm not," She stated.
Crystal closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth against her face.
Sasha ran around joyously.
Sapphire walked over to Star. She didn't yet trust Cerulean around her foal cause she didn't known her for long, but she trusted Star. "This is Crystal," she bickered.
Moon looked warmly at Cerulean and her foals and then Sapphire and her foal and then at Star and her foals.

Lunar looked enviously at the eight. She knew she was having one soon, but she wanted to have it now. Just then she felt a kick.

Moon looked at the herd.
Cerulean looked at the blue roan filly. "That'd be a good name for her," she looked at the blood bay filly. "Not sure about her, though."

Turquoise and her yet unnamed twin moved around their dam to stared up at their sire.
Moon looked at them smiling. "Chocolate?" he said. "Are they fillies?"
Sapphire looked at him. "Go play with your sire," She told Crystal.
Crystal nodded and happily cantered over to Moon.
Moon looked at his with his nostrils flared. He waited for Cerulean's response.
Crystal looked up at him, waiting for him to play.
Moon nickered to her.
Cerulean dipped her head. "I like those names." She looked at the fillies then at Moon. "Yes, they are both fillies."
Turquoise and Chocolate were moving nearer toward Moon. Cerulean either didn't notice or didn't mind.
Crystal looked at her sisters. "Hi," She said to them.
Turquoise turned to Crystal. Chocolate didn't but said, "Hi."
"I'm Crystal," She said.
Moon watched his three foals.
Lunar swished her tail, her back turned. She was looking at the blue February sky.
Crystal felt weird. All the other foals had a twin, and she didn't.
Moon began galloping around.
Lunar turned her head when she saw and heard Moon.
Chocolate squeaked softly and reached out to gum her twin's neck.
Moon came to a stop and looked at Lunar. Lunar looked at the ground and felt another spasm.
Star nickered softly, watching as Shaun trotted around looking at the other foals.
Cerulean nickered to her foals then walked toward Star.
Sapphire, who was still standing by star, watched her foal.

Crystal came over and started to nurse.
Star smiled to Sapphire and Cerulean.
Cerulean stood with her eyes closed, while Chocolate and Turquoise mingled with the other foals.
Chocolate moved to nurse, while Turquoise sniffed Shaun.
Crystal got her fill. She walked back over to her sisters.
Shaun turned to sniff Turquoise back.
Turquoise squeaked softly, touching her muzzle to Shaun's.
Shaun touched her muzzle and smiled, squeaking softly.

Turquoise squeaked and darted aside. She'd spotted Chocolate approaching Shaun from behind.
The dark bay filly poked Shaun's rump with her muzzle.
Turquoise looked at Crystal and squeaked cheerfully.
Shaun squealed and crow hopped, turning to face Chocolate.
Chocolate squeaked and crow-hopped sideways, pawing at the air.
Crystal sighed. No one was playing with her. She felt sad and went to lay in the sun.
Shaun neared Chocolate, sniffing her.
Chocolate stopped pawing and sniffed Shaun.
Shaun squealed playfully and nudged Chocolate, turning to run in a chase game.

Five beautiful foals were born that day.

Chapter 11
Helio walked over to Monsoon. "Monsoon," he said. "Can I ask you a question?"
"What is it?" Monsoon asked.
"Did you want to be my mate?" Helio asked.
"What stupid question is that?" That came from Typhoon. "Monsoon wanted to.
I'm the one who became your mate to stay with my sister."
Helio dropped his head. "So-you don't..." his voice trailed off.
"No, I didn't...don't." Typhoon swished her tail. "It doesn't matter how I feel about you. I'm carrying your foal, and I won't leave my twin."
Monsoon listened, saying nothing.
Helio almost broke down. "But I love you! Monsoon, you don't feel the same about me do you?"
Monsoon looked at Helio. "No, I feel differently about you. I actually care."
Typhoon rolled her eyes. She said nothing.
Helio nuzzled Monsoon lovingly. He looked at Typhoon.

Aqua saw a bay stallion and two mares and whinnied.
Monsoon nickered softly.
Typhoon glared at Helio.
Helio nickered to a dapple grey mare he saw and nuzzled Monsoon's mane.
Monsoon lowered her head and grazed.
Typhoon tossed her head, pinning her ears. Why should I love him? He pays me no mind. She moved off to graze, alone.
As if he read her thoughts, he walked over to Typhoon and gave her a loving nicker and nuzzle on the withers.
Typhoon rolled her eyes. Helio had given her, what, two seconds of his time? She lashed her tail. "As soon as I drop your foal, I am out of here!"
Helio backed off. "But I love you! You and your sister are my sweethearts! If I had never met you, I would have stayed a mean, vicious stallion. But you softened my heart the day I saw you. I mean it! My heart may break if you dump me. I just don't understand why you treat me like nothing after all I've went through, after all I've done for you! I could have let you stay in a dried up desert, but I led you over here, to a field of the lushest grass, just for you to treat me like you do!" Helio thought he would cry and explode simultaneously.
Typhoon snorted. "You led
Monsoon to the lush grass. I just followed." She swished her tail. "You give me two seconds then you're googly-eyed on another mare. I'd say we're even."
"I led both of you. I wanted to lead both of you. And I did not just give you two seconds. All I did was look at a mare! What's a stallion supposed to do? Ignore someone who's standing a few feet from me?" he snorted. "And maybe I'd rather spend time with a positive, sweet, optimistic mare like Monsoon than to spend someone who's gonna make me feel like a rotten horse!"
Typhoon tossed her head. "Maybe I would feel different if someone spent time with me. I live in Monsoon's shadow if you haven't noticed."
"And maybe I would like to spend a little more time with you if you at least appreciated me." Helio's ears slightly pinned.
Aqua had disappeared.
"I haven't had a lot to appreciate, okay, especially not from a stud," Typhoon said.
"You've had a lot to appreciate."
Tsunami watched Helio argue with Typhoon. She could see Helio's point. Typhoon was being over-reactive.
Typhoon said nothing, but neither did she give Helio another glare.
Helio continued to graze. As he thought, his life was a shatter. It had been cursed by Capriconis.
Typhoon watched Helio a moment longer then resumed grazing.
Monsoon had continued to graze the entire time.
Dusk trotted up to Helio's side and nuzzled him. " I like it here." she said.
Helio grazed with a tear in his eye.
Dusk went and laid down in the soft grass. The sun setting and the soft peacefulness of the area made her sleepy and she soon drifted to sleep. Tsunami walked over to Helio. " Are you alright?" she ask nuzzling him. " You seem sad."
Helio nuzzled her and said nothing. He watched as the sun came down and the moon came out.
Tsunami rested her head on his withers and watched too.

Timeskip

Tsunami trotted away she new it was time for the foal. She hoped Helio wouldn't get worried. She came back and hour later, a little colt and filly beside her.
Helio watched his mare and nickered.
Tsunami nickered back. She trotted up to him. " What do you think of them?" she asked. The colt was a blood bay like his sire. The filly was jet black.
"They're beautiful!" he nuzzled her and then trotted to Monsoon and Dusk.
Jameela, for that was the filly's name, trotted up to Helio and looked into his face. She reared playfully and nipped at his muzzle.

Buddy trotted around happily and then nursed from Tsunami.
Helio nuzzled the foal gently.
Monsoon stood near her twin, Typhoon. Both mares had black foals, one each, nursing hungrily.
"Now...you can leave...if you must, Typhoon," said Monsoon.
"I could..." Typhoon said. "I might...not..."
Helio grazed near the two. He looked up. He trotted over. "What's their names?"
Monsoon looked at her foal. "I named him Tornado."
Typhoon looked at Helio then at her foal. "I call her Hurricane."
Helio started to laugh. "Tsunami, Monsoon, Typhoon, Tornado, Hurricane and Tornado and Hurricane!" he looked lovingly at the foals. "Fillies or colts?" he asked next.
Typhoon rolled her eyes.
"Mine's a colt, hers is a filly." Monsoon said.
Jameela snorted and trotted up to the new foals Hurricane and Tornado. She wanted to play and her brother was too busy nursing.
Buddy started to gallop around the place.

Oasis herd was growing—but would it last?

Chapter 12
Sugar shook her mane and whinnied softly.
Twilight also shook her mane and watched Enchanted Night running around. She whinnied to her foal.
Sugar ran with Night like a little foal.
Twilight grinned and shook her mane again, then joined in as Night led them around the field, catching snowflakes that were now falling from the sky.
Sugar whinnied. She licked some snowflakes off the ground as the snow deepened.
Night turned and watched Sugar, then started licking the snow. Twilight whinnied and copied them.
Sugar laughed. The snow was starting to stick and before she knew it she was making hoofprints in the snow. She kicked out and slipped.
Twilight shook the snow off her mane "Be careful!" She called out.
"I'm just so excited!!!!" she whinnied.
"About the snow?" Twilight asked with a smile.
"Yes!" Sugar whinnied.
Twilight grinned and looked up at the snowflakes falling.
Sugar ate some of the snow.
On the other hoof, Gallop was sad, for the snow covered the grass. He dug in the snow and ate the grass he found. He ran around for a little in the falling snow. Then he went to get water but the pond had frozen over. He took his leg and smashed his hoof against the ice and made a small drinking hole.
Sugar nickered to her mate. She nuzzled him trying to cheer him.
Twilight moved near Gallop, shaking the snow off her back. She nickered and looked around as the beautiful snow fell.

Cerulean lifted her head, her nostrils flared. Something was in the wind.
Star lifted her head as the wind blew from a new direction, She whinnied and started the herd to moving.

A pack of wolves, sensing that they had been found out, stood from their hiding places and stalked toward the herd.
Cerulean moved to stand close to Star, snorting fearfully.
"Run!" Star called out to the herd.

The wolves heard her and took it as their own signal to run.
Cerulean bolted, following the lead mare's command. Moon reared and galloped with Cerulean and Star.
Star moved to the front of the herd, leading them away from the wolves. Moon ran beside Star frantically.
Star looked back to check on the herd. Lunar, Sapphire and Cerulean and the foals were all following.

The wolves followed the horses, trying to frighten them to run to the left, where they had an ambush set up.
Moon nudged Star forward and ran to the right, for his instincts told him not to go to the left.
The herd continued to gallop, moving towards the right obeying Moon.
Sapphire squealed and ran next to her friend.

Star tossed her head and led the mares downhill to the prairie. Her foals followed beside their dam.
Lunar whinnied and put a burst of speed into her running.

The wolves slowed as their plan was foiled.
Moon tripped and stumbled on the hill. He almost fell but kept running swiftly.
Cerulean was still galloping behind the others. Being the slowest of the herd, she always fell behind.
Moon began to limp. Cerulean whinnied loudly, having fallen farther behind.
Moon began to slow to a walk as he was not able to keep up.
Star tossed her head circling back to Moon and Cerulean. She looked up the hill, not seeing any of the wolves following. "I think they have stopped," she called to the herd.
Moon limped over to the prairie and laid down, his foot aching from tripping.
Star moved to the prairie, standing watch while Moon was down.
Cerulean slowed as Star neared her.

Moon reached over to nuzzle his back foot. Lunar stood beside Star.
Sapphire nuzzled Moon. She smiled happily.
Moon was unawakened as he was in a deep sleep. Lunar slept too.
Star watched as the herd drifted off to sleep. Sapphire, who was still awake, nudged Star.
Star turned to Sapphire with a smile.
Sapphire smiled.

Field Herd had not been harmed by the wolf pack, and neither did Moon's foot stay sore.

Chapter 13
Moon watched the herd. He nuzzled Sasha who trotted over to her siblings and nipped Chocolate.
Sapphire nickered to Moon. Crystal neighed playfully.
Moon nickered back to her.

Sasha nipped Crystal. She was in a playful mood today.

Sapphire galloped over to Moon and nuzzled him.

Crystal jumped.

Moon nuzzled Sapphire back.

Sasha nickered a little foal-sound. The brown-and-white filly jumped playfully.

Sapphire smiled and licked his nose.

Crystal laughed and nipped at Sasha's flank.

Moon flicked his ears back and forth, enjoying all this company. He watched Sasha, Shaun, Crystal, Turquoise, Chocolate, and Eclipse as they played.

Sasha pinned her ears back playfully and hopped.

Sapphire smiled. She rested her head on his back.

Crystal crow-hopped happily.

Moon was enjoying this attention. "I love you," he said.

Sasha pawed the ground. She tried to pull some of the brown grass and eat it and ended up biting the roots.

Sapphire smiled. "I love you too." Moon closed his eyes and sighed contently.

Sasha tossed her mane. She walked up to Crystal. "Wanna see something?" she said.

Sapphire nickered.

"Yeah!" Cheered Crystal.

Moon nuzzled her withers gently.

Sasha quietly began to trot westward away from the herd.

Sapphire smiled.

Crystal followed.

Moon looked at Cerulean and Star. He hoped they didn't think he didn't care about them. "If I could do anything in the world," he thought out loud, "I would be content to stay with you." he nuzzled her.

Sasha began to walk down a hill in the field.

Sapphire's heart felt warm. She nickered softly.

Crystal galloped by her.

"Tell me," he said. "What was your past like? Were you born a loner?"

Sasha stopped at the end of the hill and perked her ears toward a grove of trees, saying 'look'.

"Y-Yes, "She paused. "I didn't want to tell you what I'm about to tell you now because I didn't know you that well," She said. "I was born a loner. When I was about 2 years old my mother and father died in a horrible snow storm." She told him. "I-I'm not sure If I should tell you the rest."

Crystal smiled. "Pretty!"

"I'm so sorry," Moon said with a pitiful look in his eyes.

"That was where I was born. My mom told me in the summertime big, red, juicy fruits grow on those trees and we can eat them!" she said happily.

Sapphire nodded. "W-Would you like to hear the rest?"

"Really? It sounds like you're talking about apples! My mom told me what they look like," She said.

Star, Cerulean and Lunar grazed watching the foals.

Shaun bounded over to Star to nurse, then lay down to rest.

"If you want to tell me, you can." he paused. "But if you don't, it's fine with me." he smiled vaguely.

"Really? Apples?! I can't wait until summertime!" Sasha bucked playfully. She hoped she hadn't been noticed missing.

"I'll tell you," She said, hoping he would still like her. "I had a mate once before," She paused. "He seemed sweet. Well he wasn't. I had a foal and he... he.." She paused again. "He killed it and ran off," She blurted out and then bursted into tears.

"Yes apples!" She cheered. "Mama said their really good!"

Moon almost cried himself hearing how one of his mares could be treated so harshly. He nuzzled her mane as his warm breath blew on her neck.

"So did mine!" Sasha began to gallop through the rows of trees.

The warmth of Moon's breath dried the tears that were dripping down her face.

Crystal galloped after her.

Moon began to tell her his story. "I was born a loner. My dam was captured by cowboys and I was almost." he frowned. "I grew up alone. Until I met Star."

Sasha bucked playfully.

Sapphire frowned and put her head on his neck.

Crystal bucked at her playfully and nickered.
Lunar scowled as she watched the two and nursed Eclipse. Helio deserted me, my foal died, and now here I am, with Moon's foal, totally left out of the picture.

"Where are the foals?!" Moon panicked.

Sasha stopped, breathing hard.

Sapphire's heart jumped. "FOALS!!!!!!!!!!!" She called loudly.

Crystal could hear her mother, her voice seemed to rumble the earth. "We better head back," She stated.

"Sasha! Crystal!" Moon called.

Sasha began galloping back through the grove and up the hill.
Sapphire's ears twitched. "Their coming," She stated.

Crystal followed, not far behind Sasha.
Sasha's head poked up from up the hill. She stopped beside Star, her mother, breathing hard.
Crystal stood next to Sapphire and Moon.
Sasha stood beside Star.
Star reached down to Sasha, giving her a nuzzle. "Where did you go?"
"Me and Crystal went down to the apple orchards," she announced. "She's my new friend!"
Moon watched the foals. He sighed with relief. "You gave us quite a scare," he said to Crystal and Sasha.
"You have to let us know when you want to go somewhere, you could of gotten hurt." Star said.
"But I wasn't alone!" Sasha said stubbornly. "Who could have hurt us anyway?" she pinned her small ears back, not even remembering the recent encounter of a wolf pack.
"You did not have an adult with you." Star said, shaking her head. "Wolves or another herd or just falling and hurting yourselves." She answered.

"What's a wolf? And what do they do?" she inquired.
"How do I explain a wolf?" Star asked, thinking. "A wolf is a four legged creature that usually hunts in a group, called a pack. It has very sharp teeth and eats mostly meat, such as rabbits and deer. Wolves have attacked our herd before, you should remember, but we all got away from them." She said looking to Moon and the others.
"Uh-oh," Sasha said. "I guess I had better stay with the herd then." she admitted.
Star nodded. "Or take an adult with you." She said softly.

Sapphire agreed with everything Star said. "You girls need to stay where we can see you," She stated.
Crystal dropped her head low. "Yes mama," she said.
Sasha laid down beside Shaun.
Sasha listened to them. Chocolate must have not have heard anything, for she and her twin were to have some big adventures later on.

Chapter 14: The Beginning of Adventures
Moon whinnied.

Lunar began to gallop away from the herd with Eclipse. Moon galloped after her. "WAIT!" he said. Lunar kept running.
Lunar kept galloping away. Moon still pursued.
"LU-NAR!" he kept running.
When Sapphire caught up to Moon she stopped running. "Where is Lunar going?" She asked.
Crystal stood beside Sapphire.
"Don't ask me!" he said, still running hard and making a thunderous sound with his hooves. Sasha stood up from her nap, yawning. She stood beside Crystal.
Sapphire watched him. She galloped after him.
Crystal looked over at Sasha. "Hey sis," She said.
Lunar kept running through a grove of trees. Moon pursued her.
Sasha reared and also began to follow the three, finding it humorous that they were running after each other.
Crystal followed, laughing. She was thinking the same thing.
Lunar stopped. Moon stopped beside her, and Sasha stopped beside Crystal.
Star and Shaun followed at a slower pace.

Lunar swished her tail, her back facing Moon. "What's wrong?" he said.
"You haven't been paying me any attention! That's what!"
"But I've been busy! I have 4 mares and 6 foals. That's a lot to give attention."
"You mean 3 mares and 5 foals? You don't pay me any attention. All you do is moon over those other mares, especially Sapphire!" she pinned her ears back at Moon and Sapphire.
"I just told you! I can't give the whole herd attention at once!"
"Neither can you give me attention." she raised her voice higher.
"Yes I can! And I have! Give me another chance!"
Lunar said nothing. She faced the trees. Chances. I'm sick of giving chances, she thought.
"Alright. Let's just watch you desert me again." she rolled her eyes and turned around, walking back to the herd.
Moon sighed and followed her. He nuzzled her and nickered softly. Lunar said nothing. Sasha began to walk back with them.
Star circled the herd, watching them, then moved to Lunar's side "We won't desert you, Lunar. Believe that if nothing else." She said softly.
Lunar burst into tears.

Sapphire whined. She nudged Crystal and began to run. This is all my fault. She cried to herself.
Crystal followed her mother.
Star nickered softly, gently nuzzling Lunar.
Moon watched Sapphire but knew he better not go after her.
"I can't keep it a secret anymore!" Lunar cried. Moon stood close beside her. "The most horrible thing happened. It's haunted me my whole life!"
"Sasha, Shaun, stay here." Star said and took off after Sapphire and Crystal. She caught up to them moving in front of Sapphire. "Stop, Sapphire, please." She said.
Moon and Lunar watched. Lunar started to cry again and he nuzzled her gently.
Sapphire turned around. "This is all my fault!" She cried. She began walking over to Star. "You're the only one who understands me," She whispered to Star.
"Fault?" Star questioned, then shook her head. "We all crave attention, it is in our nature. Come back to the herd and let's all talk together." She said gently.
"Yes fault. Lunar said that Moon was spending to much time with me," She stated.
"Moon spends time with each of us and has for a year." Star nickered and gently nuzzled Sapphire. "Come back with me, I don't want to lose any of my friends." She said softly.
Moon watched the two. Lunar tried not to weep but she kept thinking about her awful secret.

Cerulean stood with her foals. She had no idea what was going on.
Sapphire nodded. She began walking back to Moon. Crystal followed her dam.
Star followed stopping near the group.
Cerulean hadn't moved, but she lifted her head when she spotted Star.
When they reached Moon, Sapphire stopped a few feet away from him. She didn't want Lunar to feel left out.
Moon nickered a greeting to the mare.
Star looked around the herd, once again it was together.
Sapphire smiled. She looked over at Lunar.
Lunar walked over to Sapphire. "I'm sorry for being such a brat," she said.
Cerulean whinnied questioningly at Star; she wondered what was going on. At her side, Chocolate and Turquoise watched.
Moon looked at his herd again. Lunar dropped her head down.
Star looked around the herd quietly.
"It's okay. It was my fault for not 'sharing' Moon," She told her.
"Graze with me awhile?" Cerulean asked, nearing Star with her twins following.
Star smiled and moved a short distance away to graze with Cerulean.
Lunar followed with Moon and Sasha. "There's something I need to tell ya'll." she said.
Sapphire followed with Crystal behind her. "What's that?" She asked.
"A year ago I met a stallion. Named Helio. I had his foal, and he deserted me in the middle of the desert. My foal died because he never led his family to water. I hate him!" she paused. "I'm sorry for keeping a secret from you. I just didn't wanna talk about it."
Sapphire nuzzled Lunar. She felt bad for her. "I also had a stallion. He left me and killed our foal," She cried.
Cerulean lifted her head, chewing a giant mouthful of grass. She had no such exciting story to tell, so she said nothing.
Star's story would be boring as well "I am sorry for your loss." She said to the two.

Cerulean would have some exciting story to share. The whole herd would.
