Chapter 15: The Majestic Morgans
It seemed like the pursuers were gone, (Sapphire and Crystal) so Stardance's gait slowed. The dun dragged her front hoof along the ground, leaving a gash. Aqua walked around the wilderness. She whinnied. Stardance was busy watching Kellen from the shelter of a grove of trees. She didn't hear the other mare whinny, yet wouldn't have whinnied back even if she did. The dun mare was simply looking for a herd, and there was one about a hundred yards away. This was not the time to go seeking out a mare, with her chances of joining a herd so close.
Wildfire had his nostrils flared, breathing deeply the scent of other horses. He lived as a loner, existing by roaming the borders to all the territories. The Morgan enjoyed this life, but every-so-often, an urge to find a mare would hit him; this was one of those times.

Tossing his head, he whinnied shrilly, giving his location away, quite eagerly.

Stardance was having a fine time chowing down on the lush grass of Kellen's herd, but curiosity tore her away and towards the stud. Snorting curiously, the dun mare resumed nervous trotting... but this time, it wasn't away from others; it was to them. Wildfire dropped his head, sniffing. He had picked out Stardance's trail, as it was the freshest. With renewed vigor, he trotted on, following the scent. Whatever instinct this was that popped up sometimes and drove him to seek mares, he didn't fight it. He would, however, just as easily ignore other horses if the urge wasn't there.
Stardance eagerly trotted towards the approaching scent, whinnying shrilly. Aqua saw her and whinnied again.
Wildfire tossed his head, breaking into an excited canter. His hurried pace soon brought him within Stardance's sight. Slowing, he shook his head and lashed his tail, basically showing off.
A jealous Aqua watched the elegant pair.
Stardance snaked out her velvety muzzle and sniffed at Wildfire, nickering softly.
Aqua grazed on some grass. She continued to watch Wildfire and Stardance.
What a handsome stallion, she thought and trotted the opposite direction. "Maybe I'll get to meet him some day."
Wildfire flicked his tail in excitement, stretching his neck to sniff Stardance. "Hello," he said softly.
"Hi," Stardance said, lifting her head regally. "Who are you?"

"Wildfire," said the bay Morgan. "And you?"
"Stardance," the dun Morgan said, a hint of pride in her tone.
Wildfire admired Stardance from her head to her tail. She was built like the typical Morgan, her proud headset easiest to notice.
Stardance flicked her tail, sizing the stallion up herself.
Wildfire swiveled an ear, listening for things unheard. After a while, he lowered his head, nipping a mouthful of grass.

Timeskip

Wildfire was grazing lazily, casting admiring glances Stardance's direction. Hers would be his first foal one day.
Stardance lapped at a nearby creek, using all her willpower to not kick Wildfire for his staring.
Wildfire shook his head, his mane dancing from side-to-side, then meandered off, head lowered, nipping at grass.
Stardance began to slowly wander away, closing in the distance between her and a fairly large coniferous forest.
Wildfire lifted his head, turning to follow Stardance. As far as he was concerned, his life as a loner was over.
Stardance craned her neck to look behind her, towards the place where she sensed someone following her. Seeing that it was just Wildfire, she snorted and turned back around.
Wildfire flicked his tail lazily as he plodded along behind Stardance. He wondered where she was taking them.
Stardance proceeded to walk into the woods, barely casting a glance back to Wildfire.
Wildfire kept pace behind Stardance. He'd noticed her indifference but was too much of a loner to care. If they became separated, nothing had really changed for him.
Once they had reached a clearing just inside the woods, Stardance aimed her muzzle to the wind. Satisfied, she turned to Wildfire, nickering.
Wildfire stopped, listening. When the wind brought him nothing of interest, he nickered back at Stardance.
Stardance tore at a tuft of grass and looked at Wildfire yet again, her gaze gentle and kind.
Wildfire grazed hungrily. He glanced at Stardance from time-to-time, nickering with admiration. He couldn't help himself; she was his first and only mare.
Stardance left her place ahead of Wildfire, and headed for the bay stallion, nickering. She dropped her head to graze once she was facing him, almost touching muzzles.
Wildfire lifted his head ever-so-slightly and blew gently into Stardance's nostrils.

Stardance slowly began to work out a tangle in his mane.

Chapter 16: The Cerulean War
Orestes stood knee-deep in a pond, splashing his muzzle playfully in the water. He was still alone, and it didn't surprise him a bit. The strawberry roan bachelor hadn't happened upon another horse since leaving his herd months ago. Aqua was wandering around when she saw the stallion.
Orestes paused, water dripping from his muzzle. He swiveled an ear and listened. He heard nothing out of the ordinary, but the wind was bringing him a faint scent. Aqua whinnied. Orestes froze, his ears pricked forward. Finally, he turned his head and gave an answering whinny.
Aqua galloped down the hill on which she was standing.
Orestes' head spun around, and he whinnied sharply. He'd heard hoof beats from two separate directions.
Aqua stopped halfway down the hill.
Orestes turned and exited the pond, water cascading down his belly and legs. After a quick shake, he followed the scent on the wind: Aqua's.
Aqua trotted the rest of the way down. Orestes finally spotted Aqua and snorted, partly in surprise.
Aqua reared and whinnied in excitement. She hadn't seen a stallion in a week.
Orestes shook his head and drew his chin up to his neck. He made a point to step around Aqua in a wide circle then trotted a ways away, nickering playfully. Aqua smiled and whinnied again.

Devon trotted over to the mare he saw. Aspen smiled and nickered to him. Devon tossed his mane in the wind. "Hello."
"Hey," the gray mustang said.
"Who are you?" he asked. "I am Devon."
"Aspen," she said with dreamy eyes.
Devon came closer to her. He smiled.
Aspen smiled happily.
Devon trotted around the mare, making nickerish sounds and flirting with her.
Aspen nickered at him.
Devon reared and whinnied.

Even Moon and Lunar from their herd heard a stallion whinny, Devon did it so loud. "Who's that?" Moon said.

Aspen whinnied.

Sapphire's ears perked. "I don't know," she said.

Devon nuzzled her.

Moon pinned his ears. "Whoever they are, they better not come over here," he said and neighed a warning.

Aspen laid her head on his back.

Sapphire nodded.

Devon sighed.

Moon shook his head.

"What's wrong?" Aspen asked Devon.

Sapphire nuzzled Moon.

"Nothing," he said. "I just smell.....horses somewhere."

Moon flared his nostrils as he smelled the other horses.
Cerulean's ears perked when she heard another stallion's whinny.

Moon pinned his ears back. "Lunar, Cerulean, Sapphire and Star. I'm gonna go and make sure them stallions aren't trying to invade my herd." with that he galloped off.
Cerulean, nosy as all get-out, galloped after Moon. After all, why should he be the only one who sees new horses?
Moon galloped across the field. He stopped to smell the wind.
Cerulean followed behind Moon.

Moon saw a bay stud with a gray mare. He charged toward them.
"WHO ARE YOU?!" Moon snorted angrily.
"Who are YOU?" Devon teased back.
Moon reared.
Devon charged.
Moon gave Devon the look of, you better get somewhere before I kill you.
Devon tossed his head at Moon.
"You're only a mile away from my herd," Moon said and kicked Devon's jaw.
Cerulean stood out of the stallions' way and watched the fight with interest.
Devon backed off. "I'll get you back for that!!!" Devon charged at Moon and yanked hair out of his black mane.
Moon pinned is ears back in fury and kicked Devon's stomach.
Quickly backing away, Devon eyed the stud. "I wasn't doing anything to hurt you! Nope! You're fixing to have a reason to be mad at me!" the stallion came running at Moon like a banshee, but before he could bite Moon's windpipe Moon reared and his hooves came slamming down on top of Devon's head.
Cerulean's tail flicked with growing interest. She was in such a state that either stallion would do for her.

Orestes gestured with his head then trotted off a few yards, turning to wait for Aqua.
Aqua trotted behind him.

Devon fell on his front knees. Although his head spun from the mishap, he backed off again and whinnied angrily at the stallion.
Moon and Devon came colliding into each other and bit one one-anothers' neck.
Cerulean paced in a tight circle, casting glances at the fighting stallions. She added her own whinny, theirs only piquing her interest.

Orestes whinnied his triumph at finding a mare.

Moon kicked the stallion's head twice. Devon was forced to surrender now and tried to walk away from Moon as quickly as possible. His head spun and thought he was going to faint.
Moon began to walk away, nudging Cerulean to follow him. Cerulean whinnied after Devon, more from curiosity than anything. Moon nudged Cerulean again. Cerulean gave another whinny in Devon's direction, but she didn't resist Moon's nudging.

Aqua found the urge to run. She was happy and began to gallop.
Orestes stood on a hill, staring at the scene below him. Two stallions and two mares were down there. The strawberry roan stud whinnied loudly, directing it at the horses below.

Moon nickered to Cerulean to keep following him. Moon heard another stallion. "Not again," he muttered.
Orestes sent out another challenging whinny. He had his own mare to protect, but still, if he could snatch one of Moon's...all the better.
Aqua smiled at Orestes.
Moon saw the horses lurking above. He chose to try and keep peace this time.

Aspen licked Devon. Are you okay?" she worried.
Devon collapsed. Moon had given his head an injury.

Orestes, distracted, didn't notice Aqua. He chose instead to charge Moon's little herd, issuing another whinny of challenge.
Cerulean lifted her head at the stranger's whinny.
Aqua nuzzled him.
Moon ignored the stallion. He knew to keep peace meant to protect his mares.
Orestes ignored the passive stallion. Rather, his target was one of Moon's mares. Cerulean was a little ways away, and that gave Orestes enough room to shove his way between her and Moon.
Moon charged at Orestes, kicking his jawbone twice.
Orestes shook his head, forcing his jawbone back into place. He aimed a furious scream at Moon but kept nudging Cerulean away from the others. He had Aqua, so why not try adding this mare?
Moon reared and his hooves slammed down on Orestes's head.
Orestes' head throbbed from the slam, and he stumbled aside, shaking his head. Recovering, the strawberry roan stud threw himself at Moon and spun, kicking him in the shoulder.
Moon whinnied fiercely and did the same to Orestes.
Orestes twisted around and sank his teeth into Moon's crest. He then proceeded to shake his head, working to draw blood.
Moon whinnied and snatched himself from the stallion's teeth. He reached for Orestes'
s mane and bit a chunk of it out.
Orestes screamed and yanked his head away. He rushed at Moon, now simply trying to shove the other stallion down and trample it.
Moon collided into Orestes and reared again. His front hooves came down on Orestes' forehead.
Orestes stumbled backwards, shaking his head. Recovering, he lunged at Moon, striking out to slash his shoulder with sharp hooves.

Chapter 17: The Rivals
Wild-Horse-Stallions-kick-each-other-in-dominance-fight-MT-LS00635-09404C_fs.jpg

The fight continued. Orestes cut Moon's shoulder but he was not going to give up. He lunged and kicked Orestes' stomach. Orestes gave a surprised grunt and twisted his head to bite Moon's foreleg.
Cerulean had stopped several yards away and was whinnying encouragement for whichever stallion heard her.
Moon heard her whinny and knew he'd better try harder. He picked his foot out of Orestes's mouth and stomped it, trying to reach his rival's head.
Orestes jerked his head away, not relishing Moon's hooves slamming him once again. Straightening up, he bit into Moon's shoulder and hung on; this was his last resort.
Moon screamed in pain. He yanked away, nearly throwing himself on the ground, and then clenched his teeth into Orestes' windpipe. He dug his teeth into the stallion's flesh with all of his strength.
Orestes' eyes went nearly white, and he bolted out of reach, squealing. He raced at Cerulean and bit her rump savagely. When then frightened blue roan bucked and bolted, the strawberry roan followed.
Sapphire bucked at Orestes. She nudged Crystal to leave, but instead, she bit Orestes.
Moon blocked Orestes from running. He pinned his ears back and looked severely at him. "Leave. Us. Alone."
Aqua whinnied from the top of the hill. She wanted Orestes to drop it and just be satisfied with her for now.
Orestes tossed his head and snapped at Moon. Silent, he lashed his tail, kicked at the offending foal and whinnied at Aqua.
Crystal yelped and fell to the ground.
Sapphire ran to her foal. "HELP!!!!!" She yelled, licking Crystal.
Orestes kicked out reflexively then screamed at Moon. Turning, he lashed his tail then headed back toward Aqua.
Cerulean stood motionless, watching the stallions.
Moon pinned his ears and tossed his head at the stallion. "Good riddance." he said aloud. Moon went back to Cerulean.
Orestes stomped angrily and whinnied. "Keep your eyes on your mare. She's watching me." With that said, he nudged Aqua along.
Cerulean shook her head and looked at Moon.
Aqua began to walk along.
Moon trotted over to Cerulean. "Are you alright?!?!" he said and nuzzled her.
Orestes followed Aqua, whinnying eagerly at her. "Sorry," he said. "That stallion looked like a pushover."
Cerulean flicked her tail nervously. "I'm alright. He was interesting, but he wasn't you, Moon."
"So did you." Aqua snapped back at him.
"I am not a pushover!" Orestes whinnied angrily. He gave another loud whinny, issuing a challenge to whatever was in hearing range.
"Orestes!" she pinned her ears back at him. "Do you
want a fight?"
"I wouldn't back down from one!" Orestes snapped. He looked at Aqua and pawed. "Why?"
"Because I don't like stallions whom all they wanna do is pick trouble." she stated.

Orestes snorted. "Alright. I won't go looking for trouble. I won't run from trouble, though."
Cerulean flicked her tail, watching Moon.
By now, Lunar had trotted over to the other horses with Eclipse by her side. "What's going on?
Aqua smiled. "Good." she galloped off, her blackish-grayish tail streaming behind her.
Moon began to walk.
"That stallion hurt Crystal!!" She said with panic to Lunar. "Get Moon."
Orestes galloped after Aqua.
Cerulean turned her head and whinnied at Star. "Are my foals up there, Star?" she asked.
Aqua grinned and accelerated. She didn't know where she was going.
Chocolate came running down to her mother.
Lunar frowned. "Uh...." she looked at Moon and his family.
Orestes tossed his head, his mane billowing in the wind. He didn't know where Aqua was taking him, but he was following.
Cerulean whinnied again to call Turquoise to her as well.
Aqua slid to a stop. She was on the top of the hill. She looked down, her mane blowing in the wind.

Chapter 18: Aqua
Orestes came sliding to a stop beside Aqua. He gazed downward, eyes wide in excitement. Aqua started to gallop down the hill. She didn't know where to go or what to do, so she ran.
The stallion watched Aqua several seconds then followed her. The mare couldn't run forever he figured. Aqua galloped down the hill until she ran to the bottom. Orestes slowed as he reached the bottom. He stood, his sides heaving. Aqua looked at Orestes. She liked this stallion, and she was glad he was her mate, but she knew deep down inside she didn't love him.
Orestes caught Aqua's eye and knowing nothing of her thoughts, nickered playfully at her.
Aqua whinnied, then started trotting around.
Orestes raised his tail, tucked his chin and pranced, performing for his first, and only, mare.
Aqua whinnied again and reared.
Orestes echoed her whinny, drawing close to Aqua and brushing against her.
Aqua smiled. She did the same to Orestes.
Eventually, Orestes drew close to Aqua, standing still, and nuzzled her neck with his muzzle.
Aqua stood still, enjoying the warmth of Orestes as the sun went over the hill and the moon came into view.
Orestes nudged Aqua's head with his, nickering apologetically. Aqua sighed contentedly.
"If you prefer, I won't go looking for fights," Orestes said.
Aqua smiled. "Good. Cause I don't want you getting hurt."
Orestes snorted. "Me? Hurt? Ha!" He bumped Aqua's side with his head. "Whatever you say, Aqua."
Aqua smiled again. Rain was falling and dripping from her mane.
Orestes shook himself, slinging rainwater. He stared at the horizon, wondering what was beyond it.
Aqua went galloping down the hill. She was making a beeline for the horizon and moon above it.
Orestes tossed his head and galloped after Aqua.
Aqua stopped long enough to rear and whinny.

Orestes dropped his head and bucked, kicking his heels to the sky.
Aqua whinnied again. She went galloping up the hill.
Orestes lingered at the bottom of the hill. Bored with running, he chose instead to graze.
Aqua ran up to the top of it. She was right in front of the full moon, the rain coming down a little. She reared and whinnied her loudest.
Orestes looked up from grazing when he heard the whinny. Tossing his head, he whinnied in reply.
Aqua bucked and kicked, but didn't make a sound.
Curious, Orestes headed up the hill towards Aqua, his mouth full of grass.
Aqua stood still in front of the moon. It started to rain more.
Orestes shook his dripping forelock from his eyes and stared at the scene before him. Aqua with the moon as a backdrop looked lovely, even in his I've-seen-everything eyes.
Aqua looked down at him. She pawed the ground playfully.
Orestes nickered softly, almost to himself. Accepting Aqua's invitation to play, he trotted toward hers, shaking his head.
Aqua trotted over to him. She met him halfway down the hill.
Orestes turned his head as he approached, attempting to give Aqua a playful nip.
Aqua shot back up the hill and reared, her forelegs touching the sky in front of the full moon. The rain came down, dripping from her mane and body. It was an enchanting sight.

Chapter 19: A Dying Foal And A Broken Heart

Crystal grunted. The kick from the stallion was painful. Sapphire licked her foal. She looked around wondering where Moon was. Moon trotted over to the foal and licked it gently.
Crystal looked up at her sire. "I-I love you," she whispered, her eyes half open. Sapphire's eyes filled with tears. One by one they began trickling down her cheeks.
Moon laid down beside his foal. "I love you." he nuzzled her.
Crystal nuzzled herself into Moon.
Sapphire laid on the other side so Crystal was between them.
Moon laid his head gingerly on Crystal.
Crystal smiled a little bit.
Sapphire began to groom Crystal. "I hope she will be alright," She said to Moon.
Moon sighed. When that mate of Orestes has a foal, I'll injure it and let him see how we feel.
Sapphire snorted, like she knew what he was thinking. "No," she stated.
"No what?" he said.
"I know what your thinking," she remarked.
"What am I thinking?" Moon almost laughed.
"Never mind," she said.
Moon reached over his foal and licked Sapphire's cheek.
Sapphire smiled.
Crystal laid her head on her sire's back.
Moon nickered.
Crystal licked his cheek.
Sapphire nuzzled Moon and her filly.
Moon nuzzled his filly.

Lunar whinnied. There he goes again, mooning over Sapphire and her foal while he pays no attention to me and Eclipse. She rolled her eyes.
Cerulean looked over at Lunar. The blue roan didn't know it, but her thoughts and Lunar's were similar. Moon paid her little attention, too. She'd only gotten him to mate by flirting with another stallion. "You feel neglected, too?" Cerulean neared Lunar, head lowered submissively.
Sapphire snorted. "My foal is dying, and that's all you care about? Think how I feel." She said madly.
Cerulean snorted. "Weakling foals are meant to die-off."
Sapphires eyes showed white. "Put yourself in my hooves! You would be upset too if your foal was dying," she stated.
"There's a good chance, yes, but I wouldn't moan and fawn over it the way you carry on," Cerulean snorted hard enough for droplets to fly out her nostrils. She turned her head to look at Chocolate and Turquoise.
"Well we're two different horses. I love my foal. That's why I am 'moaning' and 'fawning' over her."

Crystal whinnied. She looked weak and began nursing.
Cerulean tossed her head with a snort. "I saw that entire fight. That stallion didn't kick hard enough to hurt a newborn, and your foal is
dying from it? Love it, fawn over it, just don't let its weakness seep into the herd."
"You don't know what her pain is like. Unlike everyone else, Moon and I actually care. I'm sure Star does, being my best friend and all," she said.
Cerulean stared at Sapphire for a long moment then simply walked away. When one argued with idiots, the smart one would always lose. "If Moon and Star are such softies, I'm better off in another herd," the blue roan said. She looked down at Turquoise, following her. "Wouldn't you agree?" In reply, the filly started to suckle.
"Stop it! Both of you!" Moon stood up. "I love you both. Sapphire, your foal is not going to die. "
"I'm not the one being jealous," she stated.
Crystal continued to nurse from her dam.
"No one should be jealous. I love my whole family, including you, Cerulean. " He trotted over to her, nickered, and nuzzled her.
He's just going to leave me and my foal just laying here? she thought to herself.
Crystal tried to stand up, but her legs just collapsed to the ground. She was very weak.
Star walked over to Crystal and Sapphire.
Sapphire nuzzled her friend. "Everyone's jealous of Moon and I. They don't even care about my foal who is very weak. I knew you would understand though," she said.
Crystal laid close to her dam.
Star smiled softly "I noticed." She said and looked around then back to Crystal. "Crystal is weak, but I don't think she is dying."
Sasha and Shaun wandered off to play with the other foals.
Sapphire nodded. "I may have overreacted..." She laughed.
Cerulean, her friendly demeanor absent, snorted. She twisted her head to bite Moon. "Go back to your weaklings!" She pawed angrily then began walking, calling her twins. "I can do better."
Sapphire snorted. "What, it's
MY fault my foal is weak? Instead of being jealous it would be nice if you would actually care," she snorted again.
"Must be," Cerulean whinnied without glancing back. "If it was Moon's fault, all the foals would be pitiful weaklings." The mare would play it safe and find another stallion just in case it was Moon's genes that created weak foals.
"How is it my fault!!! The stallion kicked my foal," she stated, snorting.
Crystal crawled over to Cerulean and sniffed her.
Cerulean stopped and turned her head. She regarded the foal several minutes before turning and continuing on her way. "If I ever meet that stallion, I'll mention this. Might get a laugh from him."
"Thanks a lot for thinking that this is funny," she snorted, pulling Crystal away from her.
Crystal laid with her dam.
"Funny, pathetic. It's all the same," Cerulean said not looking back. It wasn't long before she'd reached the top of a hill. From here, she could see what looked to be endless plain.

Chapter 20: Moon's Dilemma
Moon ran after Cerulean. "Cerulean! Stop!" he blocked her. "I love you. Don't you realize?"
Sapphire snorted and stomped her hooves. "Think how Moon feels! You're leaving him! You're breaking his heart. Nice mate," she snorted.
"Ha!" Cerulean tossed her head. This usually friendly mare had had enough. She bit Moon's shoulder to get him out of her way. "I've seen what you love. You love that poor excuse for a mare. You dote attention on her like she's perfect. Well, have at it and leave me alone!"
Sapphire watched them. Crystal stood up. She could finally do that now.
Moon snorted. "Maybe I just wanted to spend a little time with my foal! If you haven't noticed, she's in pain. Stop being so selfish and self-centered!" he paused. "I can't give attention to my whole herd at one time."
"Spend the rest of your life with her," Cerulean snapped. She walked around the stud. "I don't care to be in a herd of wimps."
"I'm not a wimp," he stated. "I'm a stallion who doesn't want to lose his loved ones. I thought I proved my affection for you when I fought Orestes to protect you?"
Cerulean turned to stare at Moon. "Spare me. You just didn't like the fact he was paying attention to me and you weren't. I had to use him to get you to notice that I wanted you."
"I fought him to protect my herd," he said. "My herd. MY HERD! You are part of my herd! I do pay attention to you. And what if you had a weak foal, that was just kicked by an intruding stallion, what if I laid down beside you and your foal to comfort you both? I'm just sure Star and Sapphire would have thrown a fit!" he tossed his forelock.
"Weak foals die. That's life, Moon," Cerulean snorted. "I'd be upset, yes, but I wouldn't go around making a scene like it's the end of the world."
"I know it's life." he replied. "But I love Crystal, and if she's dying, I want her to spend her last breaths with her father and mother."
"Then...why are you talking to me?" Cerulean asked simply. She turned and resumed walking. "Farewell, Moon." Chocolate and Turquoise bounded after her dam.
"Cerulean, I'm talking to you because I don't want you to leave me! I want you to understand that I love you as much as my other mares. You would break my heart to leave me." He said walking after her.
Chocolate trotted in front of them.
"Maybe I'm not leaving. Maybe I'm just going for a long walk," Cerulean said. She stopped to nuzzle her foals then kept walking. "Go back to your herd."
Moon nuzzled her a goodbye. "I love you." he said and reluctantly turned, but turned his head to look back at them.
Cerulean glanced back but kept walking. "You should go back to your foal. Remember...if she's dying, you want to be there."
Moon didn't know if she was being sarcastic or serious, but went back to his herd. He just laid down and put his head on the ground, wishing there was a hole to crawl in.
Cerulean had been serious; she'd lost the angry edge in her temper, but she didn't feel right returning to Moon's herd after blurting out how she actually felt. The blue roan stood on a stream bank, peering into the water. Finally, she splashed across it, nickering for her twins to follow, and kept walking.

Chocolate splashed into the cold water that almost came up to her neck.
Cerulean stopped as she lost sight of the stream. This was as good a place as any to rest. She nickered to her twins, saying, "Get some sleep. I'll stand watch."
Turquoise curled-up and was asleep in minutes. Chocolate laid down beside her sister.
Cerulean stood watch over her twins, lowering her head to graze occasionally. Chocolate began to snore loudly. Cerulean turned her head, staring at her foal. That was certainly an odd sound.

Jasper noticed the beautiful blue roan. He nickered to her.
Cerulean's ears pricked forward at the strange nicker. She stepped closer to her twins, her ears now swiveling to find the source. If anyone thought this mare didn't love and protect her foals, they were dead wrong.
Jasper trotted over to her. He nickered a friendly hello.
Cerulean moved to face Jasper, her ears backed nervously.
Jasper backed up a little bit. "Hello," he nickered softly, trying not to scare the mare.
"Hi," Cerulean said. She stared at Jasper, unsure if she wanted to deal with another stallion, having just walked away from one.
Jasper blew gently on her face.
Cerulean looked uneasy, but she blew gently into Jasper's nostrils. At her hooves, her twins slept on.
"I'm Jasper," he nickered.
"Cerulean."
Jasper smiled, looking down at the foals.
Cerulean followed his gaze. She snorted softly, warning the stud not to try anything stupid.
"I'm not going to hurt them," he said honestly.
Cerulean still looked leery. Who could blame her? Strange studs usually killed offspring that wasn't theirs.
Jasper frowned. "I'm not going to hurt then as I said before," he stated.
"I heard you the first time," Cerulean said. "I'm sorry if I don't believe you immediately. These are my first foals."
"Sorry, I just don't like when other horses think they can't trust me. Not all stallions are mean. I happen to be very nice," he said to her, smiling.
Cerulean's thoughts danced back to the encounter with Orestes. He hadn't been particularly nice. "Alright, you're nice." She lowered her head to her sleeping foals. "This is Chocolate and Turquoise. Out of me, by Moon."

The brown dapple stallion and the blue roan mare continued talking. Then Moon came.
He was in no hurry to get another mare. His only concern was getting back Cerulean. He raced down the hill, and when he came to the edge of the river he snorted at Jasper. "LEAVE MY MARE BE!" he screamed.
Jasper charged away. "I-I'm sorry I didn't know she was yours!" he said honestly.
Moon pinned his ears. "Then GIT!"
Storm's ears pricked beside Jasper. She looked up at Moon. Yates, who was grazing near by, heard. Maybe he could get Moon away and Jasper and have Cerulean, Storm. He ran toward Moon.
Moon came charging at Yates.
Yates snorted and reared. He slashed his hooves at Moon.
Moon reared and bit his neck.
Yates squealed and grabbed the base of his mane in his teeth. He nipped hard.
Moon screamed and snatched himself from the horse's teeth. He stood in front of him and then bolted. Moon's breast collided into Yates's.
Yates reared back at the same time Moon collided with him. He lost his balance and fell backwards into the stream.
Moon looked down at him. "Git," he said. "I've fought enough stallions. I've enough experience that you wouldn't want to fight with me. This is my mare and my herd, and you're intruding."
Yates stubbled up. Just to annoy the stallion he snorted and threatened him again and galloped of the same way as Jasper.
