Thank you for caring! I hope you can catch them and find a home for them. If they are females, they will start laying soon and that might make it easier for youI think they're female, I did some looking up, to see if theres any species of wild white ducks in the uk, and couldnt find anything, hence the sudden realisation. I'll go back down the pond today or tomorrow and see if they're still there, give them a good meal, get a better picture, and if we're all certain they're pekins, I'll either contact a charity or go get them myself. I've been reading other threads about dumped ducks and its just heart breaking. People need to realise that these cant survive in the wild, not that most of the culprits would care![]()
Stay safe. Eunice looked really bad on the weather forecast. You will certainly need an assistant to catch these two ducks. First lure them ashore and then its best if one of you can position yourself between the ducks and the water. It might be worth that person having a cane in both hands to herd the two forward toward the other person. These ducks are likely to be used to being herded into a pen or overnight shelter. I can't think they have lived in a coop -- they wouldn't have been dumped if their owner had a coop and proper set up for themEverything is being slowed down, I have everything I need, just setting it up for her, but we're in the middle of a big storm
Won't be able to catch her in these winds. She should be safe enough from it, as the pond is fairly sheltered... Still worried about delaying though...
it was pretty rough weather! There's only one duck now, her sister was taken by a fox...Stay safe. Eunice looked really bad on the weather forecast. I admire your persistence. If little that duck only knew….well, I've tried twice now to catch her, both times unsuccessful. I cant even get her onto the land! She is very aware of what Im trying to do and wont come close enough, or go in the directions I try to get her in... I don't plan on giving up, I said I'd help her and I will- I'll try again on Sunday, but I really think the only way I'll get her is with a net![]()
Not ideal, but I'm out of options...
I believe I do, not sure about the kayaks... But I should have a large fishing net somewhere, if not I'll have to get one... If I get her on the shallows close enough, I might be able to net her quickly.... I tried to pick her up at one point, it was a moment decision when she was very close, I was inches away, so close, but she managed to get away too quickly and soaked me with a tsunami, definitely my faultDo you have a big fishing net with a long handle? And know anyone with a kayak? maybe someone could get in the water and steer her towards you then you could net her.
