This is the nearly extinct Puffer cat - male. They can puff up those rather short tails twice the normal size when alarmed.

Thanks for the help. Now that the mystery is solved, I would like to hijack my own thread and ask what this is. A groundhog maybe? If so, I have never seen one in my area before.

Not to be hijacked just yet. I would say that the first pic is of a Manx. They are supposed to be great hunters and able to take down larger prey!

Catear not bearat. Bearats are much darker in color. Second picture may be a raccoon with no tail.
