Will a 9" wide x 12" tall pop door be large enough?

I am working with an existing structure with a vertical height restriction (window). I could possibly squeeze another inch or two if necessary in height. I am more concerned about width. Does it need to be wider? I don't have my chickens yet (thank goodness since this coop has taken an eternity to finish), but I am looking for something around the size of a barred rock with an australorp being a possibility.

Sure that should be wide enough. My advice is to research automatic pop door-openers, and look at their dimensions. See that whatever you build will accomodate one of those, in case you may wish to purchase one in the future.

They would have no trouble getting through 9 inches wide from my experience. The height will be fine too.

Just remember that a coop is never done LOL - if you don't like the width later on just expand it. But I would have no problem with a 9 x 12 pop door for my flock.

Thank you for your response. I'm pretty sure an automatic door opener is out of the question due to a window ledge that takes up most of the wall that the run is attached to. Sounds like it would be nice though.

You are welcome!

My auto door opener is on the inside of the coop (and this is a good thing so it doesn't freeze in winter). I don't know if that makes a difference in your situation or not.
