Thanks very much for your comprehensive response. Very cool. The cockerel's parents both had crests, as did all his siblings.. don't know if that gives him 2 crest genes. The hens both have black barring against wheaten but no white or white on any former chicks.. most chicks they have had before have black barring against wheaten.

Calendula, one of the Mamma hens.. her sister is almost identical

Wow! They are gorgeous birds! :)

Here is the Sunday session in the brooding enclosure. The first time on the actual lawn.

Featuring Calendula, who has 9 of both hers and Marigolds chicks with Ziggy, the sulmtaler. Introducing AG the silver sebright hen with 6 of Calendula and Marigolds chicks. There's also AU the golden sebright hen, and sitting on a clutch of 16 eggs is Marigold.

Marigold laid a batch of eggs in Zoe's (the sulmtaler pullet's) nest and then stole all of her eggs lol. Zoe is on another new nest of her own.. I haven't counted her eggs yet. A very very broody bunch of happy mamma hens🥰

A little bit of no power sure puts things into perspective of how lucky and easy we have it.
I work swing shift so my responses are always erratic. Lol

I'm sure the linemen will be doing everything they can to get you back online. Long hrs. Middle of the night. Cold rain. Doesnt matter they will be out there. How do I know? Thats the line of work I do.

Take care & looking forward to seeing more pics

Thank you! We're on day 4 without power after our 4 days of ice storm and I know the conditions are absolutely miserable. 300,000 without power, 4500 feeder lines down, 200 miles of transmission lines needing repair and 7 substations knocked out. Finally the warmer temperatures have arrived.

After the last major days long outage, we installed a generator knowing that in a low population density area, we're never first on the list - and it has served us well.

I'm seeing little poufs of fluff out the front of their heads.. they are pouffier than my uncrested chicks, tho some more pronounced than others.. they're 6 days old

Well hey - if you get all crested you'll know your roo is a double carrier! I've started to call it "popping a crest" - because much of the time it's weeks before it shows itself. I've got one rooster with a crest and a few assorted hens - always fun when the mixed chicks pop a crest, especially the boys!

I'm at work now. Pretty much have been since jan 25th. 12hrs every day. I jump on here when I have to wait for stuff. Fun fun

We have a saying.... just cause the sun comes up don't mean the nightmare is over.

LOL, nope, it just means additional glare from the sun hitting the wet/icy/snow covered ground and an unobstructed view of the never-ending job ahead. Thank you for what you do!!!

Sounds like you're in a much more precarious situation! But with lots of little peeps to keep things lively and entertained!!! Still too early around here for chicks but I'm really looking forward to that first broody of the year and her babies. I am very grateful to have the generator, for sure.

My hen just hatched her first chick right after a few days of -20! I’m so glad it warmed up!
