will my 2 year old peahen start laying...

we live in Virginia, along the Blue Ridge Parkway........
my 2 year old peahen has been very 'flirty' with the peacocks...
will she start laying this year and should I start looking for a
hidden nest??

I hope so...been saying it appeared that they have been doing a
mating dance of sorts...seems like she .picked out one of my males and teases
the others....will she mate with more than one of them or do they
pick one for life??

They do not pick mates for life. one hen may mate with other males also.

Yes in one breeding season sometimes a peahen will mate with several peacocks but some peahens do favor a certain male, but they are not exactly mates for life. At two years old she will definitely make a nest, but because she is young she might make mistakes. Usually I can expect my two year old peahens to accidently lay eggs off of their roost or something, but eventually they get it right and make a nest and hatch out chicks and then the next year they are more experienced.

we live in/on an apple orchard and their favorite place to go and hang out seems to be on some wood pallets behind the old pack house...they all roost in the large maple tree in the back yard...they come within inches of eati ng from my hand,yet they will eat from the feed scoop if i hold it out for them...
so, think the pallets, which are stacked pretty high, might be a good nesting spot for her???

can't wait to find an egg! for where i live,blue ridge area of virginia, any idea when our season would be??

they flirt with a few boys before deciding who gets lucky.
