Wing Clipping and Coop Preparation

I would seriously suggest making both the person door to the coop and the nestbox door (if you plan to add an external one) accessible from outside the run. It's MUCH nicer not to have to go in the run when it's muddy out.

I'd also suggest a 5 foot fence plus wing clipping on one side.

Thanks everyone!!! I think I will reduce the size of the coop and increase the size of the run/fenced range area. I had always intended on covering all of those areas. I want to be able to let the chickens roam the rest of the yard when I am out gardening or lounging in the yard (thus the 4-foot fence concerns). I'm in Central Florida, so struggling to finds chicks this time of year that are also heat hardy.

In that case, you might not need to clip their wings. With a little bit of "training" by using treats as a motivator, it shouldn't be too hard to get a small flock to stay in the yard, while you're with them.
