Wing clipping.

You can do what you want with your bird but if it is going to free range it really needs the availability to evade predators and that requires both wings. Clipping a bird will not keep it from crossing over high barriers, they can jump almost six feet without the wings. With only one wing they could panic and fly into something and hurt themselves. I don't mean to lecture but offering considerations why most people won't clip a wing.

Hhrmmnn, I disagree.

I clipped one wing while they were only about six weeks old. So if they got out of the coop, I would have a better chance in catching them before they flew too far. Our neighbors have vicious dogs. I really can’t take the chance.

They are now flying pretty well, but only when my dogs startle them.

I’m not saying to do it forever, just while they are young so they can more easily learn where home is.

I think it depends on one's situation. I too clip wings, but mine are pretty safe as long as they stay on the property.
