A small shape bobbed in the waves. It had little feathers, bare patches all over its body, and could be seen as a small, grey hen from a distance. It was coughing slowly, while beside it a little chick kicked its legs as fast as was chicken-ly possible, trying to stay afloat. Nearby, a head poked out of the water, gliding slowly along behind the grey hen.
"Are you okay?" Central called out from her position on a log under the water. "This darned thing is about to sink and I'm soaked, but it's keeping us afloat."
The grey hen continued to cough and didn't respond.
