Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

MLH, I am so happy to hear Breac took your worthless chickens & gave them a home. That's very nice of her. And let's hear it for loving, caring parents who knew how to raise polite kids that knew their place!

Dornes, I am glad you were able to get your trailer home without incident. I do not envy your predicament. What lousy timing. Hope DH is feeling ok.
And it isn't that we wouldn't love your cats. I feel bad too, but I kinda think we might have our share of them. How many did TO say she had? Like 10?
ep.gif
I currently have 6. Notice the word "currently". That # tends to fluctuate, depending on what shows up in my yard at any given time, much to DH's dismay.

And I'll really be in deep doo-doo if I even think about trying to talk my mom or sis into one more "addition". I do absolutely adore jerseys, though. I agree with MLH that they have the prettiest eyes. I would love to see them playing in a sprinkler. How cute! If I could, I'd take one in a heartbeat, but I've been trying unsuccessfully to talk DH into getting a cow for years.......

Cind, I too enjoy the Jasmine updates, and am really glad she & the little ones are all ok. She is a great mama! I have a rabbit named Jasmine.

Amy, I could pretty much figure out who was who by the names.
wink.png
Very clever. Ash, the silvery one, is a beaut. I'm glad you named the black one Coal & not Soot.
gig.gif
And did your lamb's ears survive? If not, I have tons more where that came from. I had 2 indoor cats that used to sneak out in the garage rarely, but they always managed to leave me several, and I mean several, "gifts" right outside the door. Some cats are born hunters, others are more like MLH's worthless chickens.
lau.gif
Oh, and my 2 mousers were both declawed. And one of them even caught a ground squirrel!

H&R, congrats to the kids!

WCC, so sorry to hear about your Jaerhons.

BL4, I sure do not envy you, but please be careful with the DE. It can cause lung damage when breathed in. It is like microscopic glass particles.
And if you have any left, you can always toss the excess DE into your chickens dust bathing area to keep mites away.

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Amy... Don't know what's more nerve wracking.... a broody and her brood or incubating them! (From what I heard you people say about incubating!

)

As far as the plant I got at the bash go... all but the hostas died off and came back from the roots! No blooms, but the foliage is coming along. How are the plant I passed along?

Cats....I never intentionally got a cat. Or a dog for that matter. They all seem to come along weather I'm ready for them or not!
gig.gif
However I've had some great ones over the years!

Well, I ticked Jasmine off tonight. The door from the shed part to the main coop popped open before roost time and when I went to close everyone up She didn't go to the brooder... she was in the main coop! There she sat on the support rail to the roost bar with 3 of the babies tucked under her and 4 on the floor huddled up to the wall. I picked up 2 of the ones on the floor and took them to the brooder.... she was not happy, took the other 2, put them in the brooder.... she jumped down and the 3 that were with her came/fell down too. By that time the other chicks came running to her panic call. Well, I scooted her and the brood into their pen but she argued with me the whole time! Little Sh!t...
gig.gif
at least she did NOT get mean with me! I am liking this little hen more and more! Even if we do have different ideas on raising the kids! I wish the ones I got from Jim were younger, I would let her have the whole lot to take care of! But then again, the more there are to keep track of the greater the chance of loosing some.
hmm.png
I think tomorrow/today I will put the screen up in the shed door and just let her and the kids run in the shed all day. She seemed to like that.

Her and some of the kids... you can see the ones I got from Jim in the small coop behind.

"Oh No! She has the camera! RUN!

73670_img_0466.jpg
The hardest part of taking pictures of chickens is.... They move! ALLOT!!!
lau.gif
Of course it would have helped if I checked the setting on the camera too!

Night!

Morning All!

WCc-I am so sorry to hear that you had trouble with your chickens.

BL4- I hate when we get imported fleas! They always seem so much resistant to treatment for some reason. Last year they were so bad here I had to get Capstar tablets to kill the ones on the dogs to get an advantage on the little buggers. There is also a newish product called Comfortis. It is an oral flea treatment the works for 30 days and kills the fleas instantly. Unlike Program that is a flea birth control, Comfortis kills fleas and eggs. I first heard about it in Tennessee. The fleas down there were way worse them the fleas up here. The vet I used would prescribe the pill and tell the owners to either give the pill to the dog outside or in the bathtub since the fleas just fell off the dogs in a matter on minutes. I left TN for WI before I ever needed to try it. I asked up here and the vet I use had never heard of it. I used Frontline Plus and so far it as worked well this summer but the fleas are not as bad for me this year.
I also us DE and it works great.

Here is a link to Comfortis if anyone is interested:

TO-fleas can only live and thrive on animals, but they can be transported via humans and their stuff. A slumber party is a nice event for a flea. They hide in sleeping bags, pillows, clothes and such and can be carried to a new home.

Cind-Great Pics! Jasmine is such a good mommy! For some reason I keep thinking she is a Mille Fleur in color. Her kids sure are cute! I love to see little baby chicks roost. It cracks me up to see these little bitty chicks roosting on big old perches! They remind me of kittens trying to be all Cat like and it just does not work out as they planned!

All this talk of cats is making me miss them! But I'm being strong....No cats!

Well, I'd best be off...get my chores done before it gets to hot. Stay cool today!

Good Morning Everyone! So so much going on with you guys! FT have to ask are you dressed when your driving?
lau.gif
Cind, TO, CC, and others when I go south it's usually only an over nighter so visits would be quick. Was thinking last night that maybe we should have the Bash in alternate locations every other year. One year in the southern part of the state and the next in the northern that way we'd get to meet everyone at least every 2 two years.
idunno.gif
Spent the entire day yesterday doing up garden stuff. Made two gallons of hot fridge pickles one for us one for the kids. Traded the BFF cuc's for garlic and dill. Got a bushel basket and nearly a half of cuc's. Think in about a week I'll be picking more. The vines are just loaded with blossoms. Hope it's cool enough to do some canning by then. The garden will be coming in fast and furious real soon! I swear today I'm getting the elec and insulation for the B'room and getting it in! Sure was loud in there during the storms. Need to get the boat emtied out and pushed outside to make room in the garage for cutting drywall. Need to replace the tarp on the camper that got torn from the storm or pressure wash it and seal the roof. I'm getting that overwhelmed feeling again.

Wish I wasn't so lazy!

I gotta go!

Cind- I stupidly brought in a partridge cochin bantam hen, and noticed she was sick, I took her home and started her on antibiotics, I thought I had her well enough isolated, but not enough.
She passed on her UR to some chicks, so they were on antibiotics, I lost 1, but the rest were doing well. I had one pullet disappear shortly after we moved, I had thought she fell into the sump but I
now think my dog got her. Several weeks later, my dogs killed 3 pullets I had at home, I had moved the cochin hen to the barn after 4-6 weeks of QT and meds...
She still passed on whatever she was carrying, I lost 2 silkies, and I culled her as she was 3 yrs old, not laying and now I have a sick BR hen.
I culled a lot of rooster chicks, and lost my barnevelder to old age, a RIR/Redstar to old age, and yesterday I had either my dog OR my barn owner's dog kill my only rooster Jaerhon, and my light jaerhon pullet.
I have 1 pullet left and 3 hens of that variety. I have given a few chickens to Kristi P and to TO and other friends.
So now I have to find a new rooster...sigh...

Gee Carol... might have a lovely white silkie rooster for you.. really looks like Emma Frost(frost) is going to be a Mr Freeze... have not told the kids yet!! (can you tell we love the superheros oh and the princesses.. that should give you a hint to alot of our small flock names). sorry about those jaerhons, that is a bummer. Did Jerry down the road from have any others, or only the dark ones... Hang in there, there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel... at least the heat wave is getting better.

Morning all! I am feeling very lazy today too DrH! I think I overdid it a bit yesterday...but the house sure looks better! Ya know, I think I made another post yesterday but it hasnt shown up? Hmmmm.
For the Southern get together...I will call the parks and see if we need a reservation. I highly doubt it for McCarthy...it is very underused. Nothing much there but hiking and riding trails. It is a relatively new park. At Token Creek I know they have disc golf and picnic shelters so maybe we would need one? I am thinking that is the better location too. I know that there are other parks around...Bong Rec area, Whitewater Lakes and lots more in the MORE Southern part of the state....chime in now people!
If someone could start a poll and keep track to decide a day for the event that would be helpful. Also someone can start a sign-up list and food list. I am pretty burnt out on organizing...

and would love to give someone else a turn!

Well, it's hot again...guess I have to go and get some work done...Have a fantastic day! Terri O

Dornes, you should post pics of your kitties. That usually helps tug at the heartstrings.

Jim, we feel your pain.

WCC,

Hope your bad chicken luck is over with.

Cind, love the pics of mom & babies.

Gotta go melt. Hope this heat wave is at it's end. Drink lots of water!

TO, Bong is a really nice place. Where are McCarthys & Cedar Creek located?
A place with a shelter might be good, unless people have canopies to bring? Or whatever they call them?

Just a thought.
