Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

dkvart1, can you find out what it is exactly your neighbor is talking about? I know we had the farmland preservation program, and each township or county has certain rules about how land is divided, but I have never heard of Statewide legislation that actually prohibits selling land unless it is in such large chunks......

Storm was pretty impressive looking last night; some wind and rain, not too much lightning though. My oldest DD managed to get a few shots of the little bit of lightning we had....

Off to spend time with the kiddos. Later!

Good evening. My friend runs a CSA farm a few miles from me. The drop off point is where my daughter works. We got some of the early spring stuff when someone didnt want it. Since I have plentiful greens in the spring growing here we ate the stuff we didnt have and the chickens got extra--they didnt mind a bit! IT seems like a pretty good deal to me if you dont grow your own stuff. I did get a really nice CSA cookbook (yup...another one!) that follows the seasons of a CSA farm. It is put out by them I guess. SOme really basic recipes and would be a great book for people who dont know what they are getting in their baskets or how to fix the stuff. Now see, if we all bought land together we could have a gigantic garden in the middle and we could grow EVERYTHING! Jim, I nominate you as official blade sharpener and tiller guy!

Made DrH's recipe for Dills today before the pig roast. Did 2 additional jars of dill spears when we got home. Hey Jim, why cant you post pictures again? Is it because of dial up? I would post one of the pickles but after I uploaded the pics from the fair last time I charged my camera, put it all back together and promptly mislaid it! No idea where it is...Man, those cukes really grew in 2 days! I had a bunch that will be slicers...or maybe B&B's.I looked for my grandma's recipe and cant find it...OK DrH--I will try yours this year...please PM it to me? You probably sneaked over here and stole it when I told you I already had a good one right?
hu.gif
Do you realize that those pickles wont be ready until the beginning of October? I wrote it on the calendar...might have to take a taste before then...I figure the baby sized ones will be ready earlier--right?

It is really getting darker much earlier now...has any one else noticed? It is pitch black already and it's only 8:35! Doesnt it seem like it gets dark quicker a lot faster than it stays light later? It seems like we pass the longest day and BOOM!

CC--that was some long ride! I followed along in my head as you said where you all went. Did you stop and look at shoes at The Shoebox? That used to be my kids' favorite place to go. I liked the birds!

Well I guess I oughta get the critters locked up...I asked DH to close the coop (just one) and the shed door and turn out the light in the barn last night; I had everything else done...he FORGOT! Good thing there werent any predators wandering around here last night is all I can say! If I would have lost stuff I would be really ticked...OMG I just heard a big engine outside...he is mowing the lawn!!! Good grief. Wonder how many things he is mowing over?
Good night everyone! Tomorrow begins my weekend! Whoo-hooo! Terri O

(PS) It doesnt matter to me where the bash is...all the places listed are an hour away--just a different direction. Hey, how about Aztalan State Park? Only 1 1/2 miles away from me!!! LOL!

We started our meal tonight with veggies from the garden and put one of the broilers on the rotisserie. It was soooooooo good.

Jim good thing your good at riggin stuff up, sounds like you have a great way to sharpen while still on the mower.
BL4 very cool pic.

Early to bed tonight, back to work tomorrow

i have 5 chicks about 6 weeks old

that way you are almost guaranteed a female and the rest can be sold to others OR for food for the SCA'ers...
(had a friend do that once, for an SCA event.. cooliest darn thing I have ever seen-skinned the bird, smoked the skin, roasted the bird, put the skin back on...its a medieval
way of doing it for a big banquet)

Let us know where the Southern Bash will be, or if you all want more ideas...
So handicapable access, camping.... picnic areas...
How about Hurley's house!! LOL All we would need is a port a potty or two..

LOL
Carol

Carol, I emailed about those peachicks.. thanks for the lead..
I hardly ever check Madison cl because there are so many tree huggers on it, and other weirdo's too..

BL4, I always find pictures of lightning interesting..
speaking of pictures.. I cannot post on byc because of my MSN dial-up system.. maybe I will give it a try again one of these days.. I might just be doing something wrong.. I have no problem sending photos on regular emails, though..

lawn mowing in the dark?? talk about procrastination !!

TO, good thing you said something about locking up birds.. I didn't do it yet.. Hope there are no guineas in the tree..

..........jiminwisc..........

Nice pics, everyone! TO, I love your hibiscus, & you & your DD. Deb, that dog looks so comfy among all your freshly planted flowers. I'm sure he was just trying to get a little closer so he could appreciate them more.
lau.gif
Congrats on the hire, BTW. And I think your cats are adorable.

Cind, I've had a few seasons where I was sneaking zukes into almost everything I made too, including the meatloaf. It was really good! I agree, it's a good way to get your veggies, & to try to make a dent in the zuke population. I was going to suggest your garden perpetrator was a woodchuck, but I don't know if they can scale fences. Will deer eat tomatoes? The ones around here seem to prefer my fruit & nut tree seedlings.

Wow, it sounds like you northerners have really been getting the rain. I guess we had a pretty good storm come through here from 5:30 to 6:30am today, but I didn't hear a thing. Too much fresh air yesterday?
gig.gif
I hope your gardens all survive. Sorry to hear of your borers, Bigz. Has anyone tried the snug T-shirt method on their dogs to help with their storm anxiety yet? That might help you, H&R.

Raiq, my bro had a real winner of a real estate person too. She wanted him to get hardwood floors, granite countertops, etc. I told him to tell her to buy it, then she could fix it up any way she pleased. And I sure wouldn't rely on them to come up with a price/value for your home. You tell them what you want for it. If it were up to them, they would put it up for $50k just to have it sell so they can make a little something. The market is so flooded with homes & noone is buying, so they are desperate for anything. Oh, well, I see Jim already gave you the lowdown. Nevermind.
hide.gif

Thanks for the CSA info, Kee. I was wondering the same thing.
smile.png
Great advice, Jim. Good to know.

Awww, Bigz, that is sweet about your roo. I bet he was feeling pretty good about himself. And nice to hear about the cukes being a hit.

Wow, BL4, nice pic of the lightning!

TO, I noticed it getting dark earlier too. Stinks, doesn't it? It takes so long to get to that point, & then it flies by like nothing. As for our ride, we turned right there by the Shoebox, but didn't stop, though. It was packed! That was the place with the cow, right? It was a long ride, 9 hours worth, but it was so nice. The scenery was awesome and it was a good day to be on a bike, as long as you didn't have to stop too often, which we didn't. Then you noticed how hot it was.

Carol, Elaine, & whoever is deciding, my only real concern/request, is somewhere with wheelchair-accessible restrooms. I can always bring a scooter & do some 4 wheelin'.
wink.png
(Port a potties aren't good).
FT, how about Bong? That would be closer than Mukwonago. You can take 11 west to 75 south to 142 west. It isn't far from I-94 for everyone else, just get off on 142 & head west til you get there.
Score on the vaccs & fans, BTW. Sorry your A/C is out. Cooler weather is supposed to be coming soon.
fl.gif

Well, we didn't get to go on a ride today.
sad.png
One of the guys had to work until 2 & by the time he got home & all ready to go, some wicked storms came through between them & us, so we took the cars & met in Lake Geneva for dinner. I haven't been there since I was a kid, and it sure has changed! And the people! You would have thought we were at Summerfest by the amount of people milling around. And don't even get me started on the prices either. Man, I'm starting to feel old........
Well, it is way past my bedtime. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi all!

FT... Great deal on the doggie vaccinations! Wish they had something like that around here!

Jim... Black and Decker used to be a good brand name.... then they got "cheap" and not in a good sense. I have a few B&D tools but try to find better brands in my price range first. We have a Manards here and a Home Depot in Lake Geneva but no good TOOL place. If you sharpen on the flat side... doesn't that cut down on the life of the blade? I've run a file over the flat to smooth chinks, but never sharpened form the flat side.
hmm.png

*I'm watching "My Strange Addiction" while I'm doing this.... this woman is addicted to eating... her dead husband's ashes!!! EWWWWW
sickbyc.gif

dkv... I haven't heard of a State Bill either.... we should look into that. One of the reasons we bought here in Walworth Co. is because they are heavily restricting rezoning of AG and wildlife land. We have both near us so hopefully we'll never have to put up with a subdivision! One of our neighbors bought up a bunch of land yeas ago for a subdivision and was told NO in no uncertain terms!
clap.gif
They even had a hard time convincing the Co. to let them do a couple of miles for the Burlington Bypass. LOL If you ever get a blue couch, I want to see the matching critter!
lau.gif

BigZ..... Hope you get rid of those squash beetles! I have japanese beetles
sad.png
The chickens are eating all they can get hold of but allot are too high on the plants.
hmm.png
Good for your one eyed roo!

BL4... nice lightning pic!

TO.... Hey, I like the idea of our own little CSA.... Kinda' like a co-op!
wee.gif
And yep... Jim is our tiller and blade guy! Big general maintenance? I get scared when DH mows too!
th.gif
But as much as he grumbles about so much to do.... I think he enjoys driving around on the lawn tractor with his music... singing away! BTW.... He thinks the starter went on the thing
hmm.png
more to fix. If you can be SURE that is chamomile, I WILL COME UP!!! However.....

See, it's so much like it.... but not.
sad.png
We have lots of it here too.... I get all excited when I see it.... then I remember what it is....
barnie.gif

A friend of DH's came over today for a short visit. He used to work for the AG Dept. Showed him the tomatoes and where the critters got to them. He said looks like coons!
barnie.gif
I wish it were deer! At least deer won't go after the chickens! So... Ruddy goes out ALLOT at night.... weather he wants to or not! Got to tighten security on the coop too! And wouldn't you know, not more than 3 min. after he asked if we had hawks around..... one flew right over us!!! Hubby said he saw an white owl this morning too!
barnie.gif
Beak count was OK at roost time!
fl.gif

LOL... one of the roos was going to try to get some from my favorite Australorp ummm.... she said NO... and turned on him! Ever see a Roo run from a Hen?
