Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning All! OK on post overload again, so sorry! Cool pics dk, bl4 and others! I refuse to shop at Wally World, the BFF does all the time then complains that there aren't more places to shop.

Dornes I knew you were farther to the SW but that was about as close as I could get for waving and beeping. My uncle let some amish borrow his draft horses one time and they came back emaciated and obviously beaten. Needless to say he was PO'd! He had won many a pull with them in his day. They think of them as beasts of burden and that's it.

That's about all I can remember right now tho I know there's so much more... I have been warning the hens that if they don't start laying soon that I've been eyeballing some new replacements. Thinking putting them in jail for a day or two again to see if their laying. They just look at me like where's our treats? Today is grn beans, grn pepper, and get the relish made and soaking. Then get a pork roast in the slow cooker. And oh so much more! Enjoy the cool weather!

Let me talk to DH, then I may be interested in them. We need to rearrange some coops first though. I have some pullets the same age. What kind of roos are they? I am down by Pelican lake !!

Maybe it's time we all start calling the TV stations and letting them know what is going on as far as mistreatment of the animals AND that the sheriffs department is doing NOTHING about it. THEN what about calling the Humane Society of the US ???? and reporting the local humane society ??? Something has got to wake up people about the mistreatment.

I knew a man that had beautiful percherons (he since passed away). He lived down in Mountain WI. He knew of some Amish that would be working their drafts in the field. They would give birth to their foals, they amish would push the foals to the side of the field until they were done working for the day THEN let the mares tend to them !!!!

He also said he got some horses back from the Amish with big slices in their tonuges for severe bits???

I know to get the horses to "whoa" they will drop them to their knees if they don't "whoa". I'm not condoning (sp) that but certain things can still be done without actually being inhumane.
I just talked to an Amish last month and asked him about that and if he does it. He said yes but he does it on softer grass-ground.

Just like the rest of us there are good and bad. I have heard that there are alot of Amish with Puppy Mill type operations?

I think it would be a good idea if everyday a new person called in. They would get so tired of the calls that MAYBE it woud light a fire under their A$$ !!! Time to pull out the big guns hey ?

The roos are barred rock. The reason I am getting rid of the pullets is because this is the first time I have dealt with chickens since life on the farm decades ago. I thought my ignorance of the subject would bring a high death rate so I ordered more than I really wanted. Only one died three days after the order came and the rest are hale and hearty. I go through Pelican Lake when I occasionally go to Antigo's Farm and Fleet.

good morning,
when I locked up the birds late last night, I surprised a cat who was in the lean-to with the americaunas. I kept the flashlight on him and got a real good look at him.. Of course, I could not get the dog to focus.. Here Prince, I got a snack for you.. BAM !! right there,,, here Prince, I need your help.. totally deaf ...
we are missing one of the 6 baby muscovys.. I wonder if the cat had anything to do with that ???

I woke up to 5 guineas is the bator.. I did not label these eggs, so I had no clue when they were due.. today, I guess. eh? these are from a large nest I transferred into the bator,, so we could be having eggs hatching for several days hence.. there are about 54 eggs in the batch..

TO, cleating is not as much work as dado'ing.. just takes 2 cleats per shelf.. evenly spaced and squared into place.. a little gorilla glue and a few nails/screws ..

That americauna that got aught in the rain storm has fully recovered.. he is still in with the quails.. He must llike it in there because he won't let me catch him..

speaking of quails, I have at least two males.. they crow a lot..
I figure that is a good sign that they are getting close to breeding age.. there are 15 quail in the pen.. if that is all the males I have, it is a good ratio..

well, I guess I should move the rest of these eggs into the hatcher and take the babies up to the chickTV..

there is only one more batch of eggs due on the 19th and then the hatching is done for this summer..
