Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Found this in the front of the book.

Here is what it says:

Bernard Jensen's Broth or Seasoning-lends itself well to creaming soups. It is also delicious as a dip when mixed into sour cdream or yogurt. It is composed of barley, vegetables, seasonings and nutritional yeast, and does not contain salt. (If this product is not available where you live, look for salt-free product with similar ingredients, such as Vegit or salt-free vegetable bouillon cubes. The taste won't be exactly the same but will probably be close.

Spike Dee-licious Seasoning- a mixture of salt, seasonings, herbs, and spices. Spike has a unique, tangy flavor.

So there you have it !!! Your guess is as good as mine as to where to get the stuff. That is one reason why I hate a new recipe, it always calls for something I don't have, never heard of or can't find.

Would be interesting if you go to Wally World and ask an employee if they have Spike !!!

I'll have to ask at our local health food store if they have heard of it. Anyone else know where to get these two ingredients?

Our home internet is down, my web on the phone is spotty at best.
Long story short.. wanted to change pre-paid wireless.
Got a phone, turns out it won't work in my area due to having a SIM card... have to get one with out...
got phone w/out one... doesn't seem to want to work in or around the house..
This would be our MAIN phone.. so kinda necessary for it to work at the house.
called again, they reprogrammed it...AND I lost my number I painstakingly had changed over through 2 phones now...
SO if you HAVE to get a hold of me...
email me at

So which is it? First it says it doesn't contain salt, then it does? Funny.

Actually it does, if you read the ingredients list on the link posted. So for those of you that can't have salt, please be aware.
I've never heard of it before, but it does sound awfully good, as does that recipe. Thanks for posting it, FT.
I was with Bigz: going by the name Spike, I would have thought it was something from the liquor cabinet.

I found it on Amazon for anyone interested, and they do have a salt-free variety:

ETA: my brain fart. The broth is salt-free, not the seasoning. Guess I can't read. Duhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Sorry!

Thanks for the information on spike! Never heard of it before. Might just substitute some cajun spice for the spike. One can always tweek the recipe a dash or two. Sounds tasty and there is always plenty of zukes to sacrifice. Prolly gonna whip up a couple loaves of zucchini bread today. Jennie asked for some yesterday.

Hi all!!
Long time no post! I just glanced at all the fun I missed since life got hectic. Soooooooo......Why was MLH gone you might be asking? Here it is! For your viewing pleasure, I am very pleased to present to you fine Cheeseheads of BYC......*Ta Dah!* The Poultry Palace!!

The Front-facing the garage/car port now "coop":

One of the Barnevelders "hiding" behind Valerie! I guess If Valerie got attacked, then that gave her more time to run!!! Poor Valerie!:

Yes that scrawny white bird is my first chicken that I hatched here at home. Scrawny egg scrawny hen apparently!
Anyway, I still have things to do to the inside. I need to fill the edges in with dirt and I need to build a ladder type perch. Right now they have a 2x4 on a couple of saw horses. I need to touch up the paint in the window "box" and on some of the siding. I also need to install hanging feeders and a outdoor type electrical strip for the heated waterers in winter. I'm debating on installing a Sweeter Heater though. I also am thinking that I want to install some form of lighting too. So the girls won't be in the dark for so long in the winter.
Oh, I also had a little side hatch type door installed in the out door run so I can get into it if I need to. The best part is that I got this done plus I had my back entry and storm doors replaced for about the same for a fancy new coop! That included all the materials!!!! The guy who did the work was the best! Super nice and very conciencious (sp) about his work and cleaning up after himself!
The Girls LOVE it!!! Once I get it all fixed up I'll take some pics! I have their decor all picked out and I just need to get it all attached and such.

good afternoon.. I just finished supper.. I made T-bone steaks with home fries from the garden and corn on the cob from the garden.. this was the first corn we picked.. some of it is ripe and some not.. in a couple of days it will be going full tilt.. Nice long ears with kernels right to the tip.. the kind you would not be ashamed to sell..

I sold a turkey and two guineas to a guy today.. he caught one of my white adult females.. when I told him that the adults were $10.oo/ea he promptly let her go.. LOL

I got the guinea pen all cleaned and new roosts installed and pine shavings on the floor.. I hate to let any birds go in there, now.

spike ? maybe Mrs Dash would work as a substitute..?

Our apples are falling off the tree by the peck .. I don't remember any other year that they dropped like that.. It usually happens if we have a very dry year, but this year was not that dry ..

That is going to be so nice. Especially being so close to the house for winter !!! Only one problem. Doesn't look like you have enough chickens to fill it !!
