so you will have 5 now??? what colors?

IDK,, I have not seen them.. the only one I know for sure is the peacock I have,, he is an India Blue.. the chick I have could be a cross of a black shoulder hen and an India Blue male.. IDK the sex of that one, yet.. I had one person say it is a male, for sure.. another person is convinced it is a female.. all I know for sure is that one of them is correct..

..........jiminwisc.........

Yes inquiring minds want to know? That's down by Milwaukee right? Or is that New Berlin? Now at least I'll know where I can buy some hatching eggs from or some babies next spring !!

Good luck, we are set with ours but do have an extra India Blue male chick to find a new home for.... we picked up a India Blue girl and the male chick had to be taken too. So far the 3 get along but 2 boys and 1 girl isn't a good trio plus we don't know how closely related the 2 India Blues are....

suppose I should get something done before the kids get home- today is early release day from school!

Having some trouble getting this post to stick....must be operator error. Here is that recipe: not going to try and type what I just did!

CORN AND ZUCCHINI SALSA

3 medium zucchini cleaned, trimmed and diced
1 1/2t salt
2 ears yellow corn
4T olive oil
1/2C cider vinegar
2 jalapeno peppers
2 large tomatoes
1C lime juice
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4C scallions with tops, chopped
1/4t pepper
Toss zucchini with salt and let it sweat for a few minutes. Rinse and try on paper towels. Coat corn with 2t oil and roast at 400 for 30-40 minutes. Cut off kernels and scrape cobs. Combine everything in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes. Ladle into hot clean jars, cap, seal and process in BWB canner for 13 minutes.

Since this recipe only makes 2 pints I "doubled" it and got 6 plus a quart of extra juice for Bloodies...dont quite know how that works but it is all good! Speaking of a bloody...I think I'll have one! And go and hang laundry-I am sick of this house! TErri O

Sounds yummy!!! I didn't realize it was canned !! So if I make 1/2 recipe it should last a while in fridge right?
Do you just buy a bottle of lime juice, the green plastic lime or fresh ??
So back to the store. Good excuse to go !!!
Thanks for the recipe. Now want your fresh salsa !!!
Have you ever gone to www.cooks.com Tons and tons of recipes.

Ok, I'm off to make the zucchini soup. Wish me luck

Good luck on the soup FT! I really want to make that too...do you happen to know the number of the post? It was so long ago that I dont remember how far back to look...plus, I am lazy! YEs, I had just bought lime juice in the bottle (finally they have a store brand!) and I used ALL of it! It is back on the list now! It actually calls for fresh but that would be about 3 doz limes I think!
ep.gif
No way I am squeezing all those limes! (remember...basically lazy?) If you made a half recipe that wouldnt be too much...2 cups only. But I am sure it would keep in the fridge for at least a week. Here it is canned:

Along with my rich duck stock and stewed tomatoes.
Here is DH feeding Elaine some of his tomato. She got greedy in the end and stole the whole thing!

DD25 just sent me a message that I should cover the vacationing houseplants tonight...man, I am NOT ready for this! The weather said 37 for tonight...they also said that the smoke from the MN fires has gotten all the way to Chicago! Started Aug 18 from lightening.

Jim, I would certainly drag my pasture myself if only I had the equipment to do it! I think I will probably be out there with a rented brush hog, then my handheld sprayer, then the tiller and finally the hand seeder...and it probably WONT work!
he.gif
Soooo, how long would it take you to drive down with your drag and tractor? HMMM?

Gotta make meatloaf...having it with parsley buttered new potatoes, tom and cuke salad, fresh green beans and squash. I wanted to try one of those butternuts from the garden before a frost and see what it was like. Everyone says that it gets sweeter after a frost...I am experimenting...oh yeah, I picked some early brussels sprouts too...gee, sounds almost like Thanksgiving! Later! Terri O, who is still looking for the fresh salsa recipe....

ETA: Hey, just noticed in the pic that you can see my SOP in the first pic--right on my coffee table where it belongs (place of honor Brent) and also...Elain is on the picnic table! See DrH, you must have started something!

Cream of Zucchini Soup

Cooking time: 1 1/4 hrs Makes 5 qts.

Cooking zucchini into the base of this soup for a relatively long time contributes to its rich flavor.

8 Cups water

6 Cups (3Lg) diced russet potato (unpeeled)

8 Cups (5Lg) zucchini-5 Cups diced; 3 Cups sliced into thin rounds

2 Cups (2Lg) diced yellow onions

2 Tbsp butter

2 Tbsp Jensens's broth powder

1/2 tsp whole celery seed

1/4 Cup minced fresh parsley (4 TBls dry)

1 1/2 tsp granulated garlic

1 1/2 tsp crumbled basil leaf

1 Cup sour cream

1 Cup milk

3 oz cream cheese

1/4 lb grated sharp cheddar cheese

2 tsp spike, or to taste

Dash cayenne pepper

In a 6-8 quart pot, bring to a boil: water, potatoes, diced zucchini, onion , butter, Jensen's broth powder, and celery seed. Reduce heat to medium and cook, tightly covered, 45 minutes, or until vegetables begin to dissolve.

Add parsley, zucchini rounds, garlic and basil, and simmer 10-15 minutes, or until zucchini rounds are just tender. Turn burner to lowest heat.

Blend sour cream, milk, cream cheese, and Ceddar cheese in blender until smooth. Add to soup, and heat gently, until very hot but not boiling. Add Spike and cayenne pepper to taste. Serve and Enjoy !!!

THanks so much FT! I think I might have saved my recipe on line on one of the recipe sites....I seem to have them at all of them! I got my passwords sent to me again and now I will begin to search for my recipe there...keep your fingers crossed! Terri O

Eating the soup right now. Put the bowl down to say It is very good !!
droolin.gif
However I brought the box of SPIKE in the living room (where I'm eating) to keep adding it. So I would say it needed more Spike. Or salt ! But otherwise very good. My zucchini rounds aren't that small !! I cut them in half but DH ET just said they were to big for his mouth !!!
lau.gif
Either that or pick the zucchini earlier !!
It is something I would make again for sure. I thought it would have more of a cheesy taste but that is probably because it has the sour cream and cream cheese in it. But very good. Heathiest meal I'm made in a long time, other then the fat in the dairy products. When I bought the ingredients I bought enough for another batch but I bought the light sourcream and light cream cheese for the next batch. I always use skim milk,

I'm sure using whole milk would have added to the flavor as well.
oh and I updated the recipe to add that 1/4 C fresh parsely is 4 Tbls dry.
Ok, back to my soup !!!

good eve, I am tired tonight, feel like I could go to bed right now.. but if I did, I would be up at 3AM..

I made supper tonight,, pork chops slow cooked in an iron pan , corn and potatoes and tomatoes fresh from the garden.. pan drippigs pork gravy,,

I unloaded and found a dry place for a ton of layer crumbles..
then we went to the garen and picked two bushels of just about ripe tomatoes.. then I covered about 10 of the 20 plants.. Of course, the wind has to be blowing just before the first frost, right? there has to be 10 bushels of green tomatoes out there.
If we can just get them through the next few nights, they have a good chance of ripening.. If not, we will can the artificially ripened ones we picked today.. too bad we got the garden in so late.. these are the nicest tomatoes we have raised,, EVER..

I never got around to tying them to the stakes.. they would be five or six feet tall.. and they are loaded with green tomatoes..I guess I already said that..

we are spreading the word that the corn is ready for picking.. Nobody has come for any, yet.. when they do come it will be over-ripe and then they will stand there all sh!t faced and wonder what happened..

tonight I went out and shouted and clapped my hands and all the birds went right in.. all I had to do was close the doors.. I wonder what the new neighbors think when I am shouting like a banshie every night just at dusk ?? LOL

had turkey #13 hatch today.. he looked like he was not going to make it when Annie brought him from the coop.. All day in the hatcher seemed to revive him.. he is in the TV now..

.......jiminwisc........

oh BTW,, there is a township of Berlin near us, New Berlin is near Milwaukee and Berlin is near Appleton..

kristip you must be one tough cookie...out working in this cold! I had on a heavy sweat shirt and just walked to the car to go to work and thought I would freeze to death

me thinks I won't fare very well this winter!

FT how could I ever forget you all? All the wonderful ideas you all keep giving me! And I love your horse, absolutely beautiful! Just saw the rest of your group, wow! Love them all! Would love to hang out with them and shoot pics.

Made arrangements to take pics of the new arrival puppies at work for their website - sadly they are photographed there under florescent lights (which are horrid for taking pictures because of the green gas) and it played havoc with the doxie, that and the fact that the little guy wouldn't quit shaking and it blured him terrible... got a couple put had to touch them up a ton, so they aren't the best. The little cockapoo though was a doll and her pics were great.

I'm providing the props and doing it for free, cuz if I take the pic it belongs to me (insert evil laugh) and you never know when I might need a cute puppy pic! But I definately need to do something about the lighting!!!

Well, off to bed for me, have a loooooong day working both jobs tomorrow.

Night
Deb
