I made potato soup with left over pork chop meat from 2 weeks ago that was in the freezer. I usually use chicken, but wanted to use the chop meat up.
I told my niece's mom (husbands cousin- so technically our niece is our second cousin) that I couldn't come into town to let her dog out anymore.
She only re-imbursed me 25 dollars a week. It is 12 miles 1 way so about ON a bad day 1 gallon of gas A DAY... I make no money.. cuz her dog who didn't have to be let out before summer... suddenly does?? No.. she was anthropomorphizing .. LOL
Stay warm tonight

Aw crud, AAADD in action again! Happy belated birthday Cind! Sorry I forgot.
hide.gif
Mmmm, sweet potato soup sounds tasty too! My DH would be all over that one.
DrH, I was not talking with a southern drawl.
wink.png

Deb, I'm with DrH on the chicken X-mas cards. Or cows.
big_smile.png
Sign me up! And I had a feeling you'd be freezin' today. Out working in this "cold"? It was in the 60's. Oh, just you wait. In another month or so, this will feel balmy!
lau.gif
(Squeal!)Oh, what a precious puppy! I want the doxie! Poor shivering baby. Why did you post those pictures on here????
FT, Queen & all your other animals are just beautiful. What nice pics! Glad to see them enjoying the sunshine. And good luck to ET! Glad you reposted that recipe so I could remember to add Spike to the shopping list. Ah, still chuckling about picturing you yelling cuckoo out the front door.
gig.gif

Thanks for posting the recipe, TO. I always copy & paste them right away because I know how easy it is to go back & find things around here. Not! And I'm lazy too.
tongue.png
Awwww, Elaine is a doll! How cute! Very good looking girl you have there. You're right. Her & Moose would make a good pair. I think I forgot to comment on the first pic you posted of her a while back. AAADD, ya know.
he.gif

Wow, Suzie, you & Bigz are machines! You are always so busy.
Hey Jim, when you go to fix his Ford, don't forget the corn. And the beer too.
lau.gif

Last I heard the bash was still for Oct. 1st, otherwise Cind couldn't do the 8th, correct? And I haven't checked the restroom sitch yet, but since it would only be a problem for me, I say go ahead & plan for Mukwonago if it had the most votes.
Were you planning on Field Park or Mukwonago Co. Park? Field is usually pretty crowded, & they have Maxwell Street Days there on some weekends. I don't know their schedule. But Muk. Co. Park is very nice, & not far from Field. Here is a link:

Here is a link to a map of it. If you click on the map, it will expand greatly.

I sure as heck hope we don't get any frost tonight. The sinus infection came back, again(!)
somad.gif
, and I had the ambition of a gnat today, so needless to say, nothing got covered up. Or got canned either, for that matter. I swear doctors these days are good for cr*p. I think I have been sick more times this year than in the past 5 combined.
Oh well. Enough crabbing. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi all.... maybe I should start saying morning!
lau.gif

FT... love those pics! Nothing like the beauty of a running horse! JJ looks like he could have been a great guy in his day! Too bad he had such a rough life... 'till now. Cookoo?
lau.gif
yea, it would fit here! The kitten's nick mane is "Little Sh!t" I almost for her by that too!
hide.gif

Jim... good luck on the new peafowl. Gee, if it was New Berlin I could have gotten those Ameraucanas from you.
tongue.png

TO... sucks when you get too much pressure in the canner...Mine went up to 15lbs on a batch of sweet potatoes and I lost allot of liquid
somad.gif
Never canned on that stove before
roll.png

dkv.... Cute pups! Have you tried a filter to off set the lights? The card (and puzzle) idea is cool.... hope it works for you! Guess we'll have to have a nice big fire going for you at the get together! Your going to freeze solid come January!!!
gig.gif
duc.gif

CC...(or any of you) don't feel bad about missing my b. day.... I didn't say anything until Mon. morning.... wouldn't have mentioned it at all if Jim hadn't said his was 9/11!
lol.png
I just thought it was cool it was the same day! Sinus issues! ewww me too.... I no sooner feel better and it starts again!
somad.gif

Well, weird day... one of those "best laid plans" days! People kept "dropping by"! I liked seeing most of them.... but I got squat done! Then the lady from CL called and said we could come get the free concrete blocks anytime after 6. Cool DH got home about 6 and we went to get them 40 of them! New... never used! As we were pulling in we saw a bunch of wood and DH got a wave of desire!
droolin.gif
When we talked to the woman she said "Oh can you use that wood? We don't need it!"
ya.gif
Just then her DH came out and they went to look at the pile we could have. As we were leaving DH said "We got to get the truck emptied! We can have that pile of fire wood (a short cord) and those 2x4s and 2x6s. They're oak and (some other hard wood)"
ep.gif
It's a pretty big pile! it's weathered, but I'll use it for something! The guy is a contractor for log homes and this stuff was "left overs" that's been sitting there a while and they just want to get rid of it.
clap.gif

I hope the frost skips us. Had such a headache I never got out to cover anything.
rant.gif
Not getting to bed when I wanted either.... Oh well.... Night!

Oh, here's the soup I made... kinda

Curry Sweet Potato Soup
Ingredients: Serves: 4-6 Yield: 7 cups soup
1 tablespoon oil (I used sunflower oil)
1/2-3/4 cup chopped onion (1-2 onions)
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 tablespoon curry paste (levelled tbsp, preferably Madras, Korma or another Indian or Caribbean curry paste you like)
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (levelled tbsp)
4 cups peeled and cubed sweet potatoes (not yams)
1 red bell pepper, deseeded and chopped
3 1/2 cups chicken stock or 3 1/2 cups vegetable stock
2 tablespoons rum (optional but recommended, I use white rum)
salt
recommended topping
4 -6 tablespoons sour cream (any fat content)
sweet paprika
Directions:

1 SOUP:.
2 In a soup pot, heat oil over medium-low heat. Add curry paste and onions and cook for 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat if necessary. Add garlic clove and ginger and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
3 Add sweet potatoes and pepper. Mix. Add stock. Cook for 15 minutes or until vegetables are very soft.
4 Puree the ingredients in batches in a blender or puree the whole amount directly in the pot with a hand blender (if pot is high enough).
5 Check if you like the consistency of the soup. Add more stock or water if desired and adjust the seasonings (check if salt is needed). You can add more curry paste if desired, but most pastes need to be cooked first before adding to a dish. Add rum if using.
6 Serve:.
7 Serve in individual bowls and top each with a tablespoon of sour cream and a sprinkle of sweet paprika.

I think it came from the "Food Network" I didn't have exactly what they called for but came close. And no rum
hmm.png
Maybe DH can pick some up for tomorrow
big_smile.png

Thanks for reposting the zuc soup! LOL... will try that too!

Good Mornin'

31 degrees !!! Wasn't expecting it to be this cold... I guess today after work, I'll be doing a little "winterizing" on the coop.

I also got the chicken water nipples (that sounds funny, eh?) in the mail yesterday, so I'll be making the birds a new watering source. I've got an old heavy duty aquarium heater w/ thermostat and I'm gonna try that as a "nipple anti-ice device."

Have a good day everyone!

Morning all! Have about 10 minutes before I have to walk the dog and hit the shower... after work this morning I have to go shopping (DH's orders) for warmer clothes. Think by Oct 1st for the bash I'll look like the Michelin tire guy...all puffy from all the layers I'll have to wear!
lau.gif

Cindlady thanks so much for posting the recipe for sweet potato soup DH and I love sweet potatos and that sounds so yummy! Haven't really went shopping for filters... really should I need a couple, maybe I'll drop a hint to DH, he was stumped as to what to get me this year for Christmas and he'll be only to happy to get it early, such a dear that one!

CC I didn't post those puppy pics so you would want one (although I know puppies are hard to resist, as are horses, goats, chickens...
gig.gif
) was just happy they turned out 1/2 way decent. Next time I'll have to get the manager to slow down a bit, she just wanted it done in like 2 minutes.. I'll make sure she's not there, so there's time to adjust some things....like the annoying creases in the fabric we hung to camoflauge the UGLY wall... funny youngster, she wants better pics than she was snapping, but doesn't want to spend the time to get them!!
idunno.gif

I'm sure come spring I'll be pestering those of you close to me to let me come snap pics of your critters, since I'll be lucky to even get chickens, let alone anything else!

Well, I better get this dog out before he explodes.... spent $1800.00 to fence in part of the back yard and do you think that dog will potty out there? NOPE. What the????

Deb

Good Frosty Morning Everyone! Jim I wouldn't worry too much think the neighbors already know you!
lol.png
FT nice pics! Now if we could get a video of you riding around making your butt look smaller and screaming Cuckoo Cuckoo that'd be great!
gig.gif
gig.gif
Poor dk are you sure it was the puppy shiverin? Don't worry next spring when it reaches this temp again you'll be breaking out your kini.
lau.gif
TO looks like you've got a nice larder there, good to have! You can tell it's getting cooler everyone is making soup. I made my first ever batch of veggie beef soup last night night. I taste tested several times, thought I was gonna bust by the time I went to bed. Used the last of the grn beans from the garden, plus carrots and onions. The kids thought they were getting away with something because I took the gate off. They got to play in a forbiden place.
hide.gif
Dropped, drug out, and cut up a nice oak yesterday didn't want to over do it first time out. Thanks Susie for doing more of Brent's jobs! Guess that makes you a seeing eye Susie!
cool.png
Tomski have to agree chicken water nipples does sound funny! Was gonna go back in the woods this morning but think I'll get the soup in the freezer and clean up my mess. Should probably straighten up the back porch and bring in a little wood too. Hope you all enjoy the day!

Good morning...and eventful it has been already! DD25 was showering and she yelled for me to come quick--the pipe came off the back of the tub and scorching hot water was flying all over the bathroom! I ran down and turned it off...then my phone rang, it was the cook asking about ingredients for tomorrow; there I was trying to get the pipe back on the shower, talking on the phone while DD is all soapy and shivering with just a towel on! Go back down to turn the water on so she can at least rinse her hair in the sink...the water starts shooting out again! AACCKK!
he.gif
the phone rings again...sheesh, I feel like going back to bed already! So no luck on the water sitch; good thing I am working all day! DD had to go outside and rinse off with the barn pump...BBBRRRR! Talk about shivering! The whole bathroom smells like mushrooms...they are probably growing up between the walls from the last time this happened...man, I need a new house!

So...trying to warm up here in my skeeter coat, cats are cuddled up next to me. Coffee is hot! It feels weird to have long pants on! No frost here but the tortoises were not even banging at their door to get out this morning...guess I am going to have to make their inside table sooner than later this year...39 on the porch and 58 in here. Sure wish we would have had the $$ to get the chimney relined...looks like another winter without wood heat
hit.gif
Wont miss the mess, but sure hate the bill!

FT--the Standard is on the upper right in the pic...the blue one. The one you cant make out on the left is the Vegetable Gardening Ency. for canning, drying and root cellaring! A great reference for sure!

Whew! Just though this message went *poof* like yesterday! I leaned over the puter to reach that book and it paged down so I thought I lost it again! Seems to always happen just when I am about done with the message!

Cind and CC that bird is the one that I got from Elaine on here (thus the name) She is for sure a sweetheart! For some reason she didnt fit with Elaine's flock so she came here to live. I am so glad she did cause she is my favorite chicken now...well, I have a bunch of faves, but she is the only one I routinely carry around! Last night I had a dream that I went into town to sell eggs and brought her with me! I think I will try that next week...prolly get kicked out of the park. Guess I better order some chicken diapers. Ya know it is OK to have a dog sh!t in the park but not a chicken...oh brother!

Speaking of parks...thanks for that link to Mukwonago...looks like a great park to go to. I had no idea it was so big! MLH--where are you? We need times!

Well I guess I better get on outside and get the laundry hung and the critters fed. THen off to work for me. My friend that called this morning was offering me some pears from her tree...mine didnt do as well this year as last. Seems like it is an every other year thing. I have my eye on some vanilla pear butter to can this weekend!

Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O--wondering if Jim's post will be here when I push send?

Morning all !!! Gonna be a long day I'm afraid. I didn't get to bed until well, let's put it this way I think I outlasted Cindlady !!! Must have eaten way to late, then got hooked on the internet and you know how that goes.
So I woke up with a stiff neck and a head ache. Couldn't fall asleep cause it was cold in here and I am being stuborn about turning the furnace on yet. So I put a Tshirt on over my Nite gown (which is a summer one) and it was irritating the sunburn that still hurts from three days ago !! I really got burnt. It was virgin skin !! I never go sleeveless so it really cooked me !!
somad.gif

TO I was right Standard Of Perfection !!! I posted after you said it but I didn't see your post. What else would SOP mean on a Chicken thread ???
gig.gif
Guess we know where Jims mind is !!

Yeah, I was disappointed to not find Jims post this morning but just remembered he is on a road trip getting the Peafowl !!! Annie will have to get him a laptop for a belated birthday gift or for Christmas so he can stop at McDonalds and update us !!
caf.gif
Can't wait to hear what he has to say !! Ought to be interesting.

WCC, thanks for the links. Now I am more confused then ever !!
th.gif
No wonder I didn't remember for sure what time of day to let them out !!! One will say during the night. Others between 3am and 10am. One will say fertilze and other will say don't. Then they say keep it mowed but the fructan is in the bottom 3-4" of grass !! Geezzzz. I may have been better off not cutting it. Sounds like you don't want it to go to seed so you would cut it with a brush hog at a high setting ? I think the regular lawn mower is to low at the highest setting ???
So now I"m wondering if we get an indian summer with warm nights would it be ok to put them out for short times?
barnie.gif
I would have been better off investing in a glass bubble for these guys !!!
gig.gif

Then there is the hay issue. Depending on when the hay was cut it can have high fructan levels too !!! I don't even want to go there right now !! TG I get all my hay from the same guy and haven't had any problems.
So if anyone has any horsey advice or suggestions and doesn't want to bore the chicken people feel free to PM me. You can never learn to much...... Or maybe you can ????
gig.gif
My oncologist told me once TO QUIT READING !!!
gig.gif

TO I feel for your daughter !!! I know all to well what that cold water feels like first hand. OK now everyone close your eyes I have another story for ya all !!

A couple of years ago our electric hot water heater went out. Well after a few days I couldn't stand it anymore. SOOOOooooo we had a huge downpour that day. SO I thought I would do something that I figured DH ET would do but I would beat him to it. I grabbed a bottle of shampoo and went outside in the downpour !!! Boy was that cold !!! But probably not as cold as our cold well water. Once I got lathered up I found that it was taking a bit long to rinse the shampoo out of my hair SSSOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo I spotted the ATV.
gig.gif
..................... I think you can figure out the rest !!!
gig.gif
gig.gif

I hopped on and drove it all around the yard. In the mean time I couldn't get DH ET to join me. I got caught up in the moment and drove the ATV all over the yard in the pouring rain....... in my birthday suit as fast as I could !!!!
gig.gif
I was laughing the whole time, it was a riot !!! I even drove it down to the big pines that you see in the picture. Little did I know then that from the road you can see pretty well thru the trees and even from the neighbors down the road but unless they had binoculars they would have only saw a flesh colored blur on a bright yellow ATV !!
lau.gif

It felt great, I felt free as a bird but was cold as HeJJ !! Had to hang on tight cause I found out that ATV seats are slippery when wet !!
gig.gif
I'll have to get a sticker on the ATV that reads "SLIPPERY WHEN WET" !!
gig.gif

Ok that is my story for today. I am starting to love this old age thing. All these old memories are coming back and I get to enjoy them all over again !!! Oh wait that was only a few years ago !!!
gig.gif

And no Dr Ha or Jim I was yelling out Cuckoo Cuckoo !!!!
gig.gif
Now that would have been a scene !!!

Now I forgot what else I was gonna say but I think that is enough for now !!!
