SIS so glad to hear the great Dr report! I just make and bake my pies and wrap them really well with cling wrap and tin foil. Course not as good as a fresh out of the oven but they still fit in the face rather well. Don't have any in the freezer this year... yet but it might happen. Donny's trees are just loaded this year. Shanti so glad to hear from you and glad you got a good report from your eye Dr. too! I need to get some new eyes [glasses] soon. Starting to get headaches. Yep that QB for the Panthers made a heck of a showing for his first time out, he settles down and he'll be a super star. I figured it right the pack came out swingin in the 2nd half. Was glad to see it. I love it when I'm right. Doesn't happen that often.
roll.png
The problem is that I can always borrow Donny's tractor if I need it maybe should just cool my jets on buying the Ford but........ Think I'll clean off the old kitchen table on the back porch and replace the legs on it. Their metal spider feet and you can't sweep around them and their really loose. I store the pickle crocks and A/C on it it's a particle board top and since the flood the screws have gotten real loose. Maybe should just build a set of sturdy shelves. Either way I need to make trip to the lumber yard. Better get movin.

So do you put a grape leaf in the jar or soak the pickles with grape leaves? DH likes the pickles crisp too!

Overcast and still crummy looking outside here, chickens gave me their take on it this am- runs are muddy!

Made zucchini bread last night- 3 loaves- down to 2 once the kids got slices for lunch, snack and breakfast.... the other 2 won't last long either

Looks like our 2 peachick males are starting to compete for the peachick girls attention, probably need to work on finding the India Blue male a home.

Any recommendations on a bantam breed that isn't as broody as our Partrigde Banatam cochins- we are running into problems with them laying eggs- they would rather just sit on eggs laid by the other ones- makes it hard for DS(9) and hatching new chicks to keep his project going. We are researching to see what might work out better for him. He likes the light brown bantam leghorns-anyone have experience with them?

Have to finish afew things here and then get my stuff around and go to work! Have a good day

H&R put one grape leaf in the bottom of the jar. The recipe I use for my dills you have to soak the cukes in ice water fot 2-8 hours. After last years batches I left them in for around 6 this year. Think I now have a hearing loss after biting into them. Maybe it was the listening part? FT my mind has been flooded with memories about my adventures. Nope can't print that one, nope can't print that on, nope...... guess I've been very naughty. Have been working on my karma for the last few years and after all this recollecting think I'm gonna have to live a very long time to get even.

good morning,

Cind, you just made it before the 5 AM cut-off..

I was a baker for awhile,, worked all night.. loved it.. the boss didn't come in until 6AM to make deliveries.. by 9 or 10 AM I was done before he came back.. then I would go hunting all day and sleep a little before I had to go back in at 11PM.. That was BC..before children.. anybody ever hear of Dixie Creme Donuts ??

I am taking some corn to the guinea lady, Marlene.. she pulled a muscle in her back and can't come pick it as she was going to do..

DD#1 wore me out.. she had to finish up cutting corn by herself.. I blanched it for her.. she is so gung-ho when she does something.. we kept telling her that she had plenty shucked.. well there are about 2 extra bushels shucked that the chickens are going to get.. saves me the trouble.. thanks Barby..

we cannot believe how good this corn is.. It has been ripe for about 3 weeks and is still sweet and tender.. It is Serendipity from Jungs i Stevens Point.. however there were a lot of stalks without ears.. but I planted 2 pounds, so we still had plenty.. I did not fertilize this year. that might have had something to do with the lack of ears.. Next year,,,,, that is what keeps gardeners coming back.. "Next year" I will try something different.. "Next year" I will only plant fewer tomatoes.. Yeah right,, 3 dozen plants, minimum.. LOL betcha can't plant just one....

We tried to corral the peahen twice yesterday.. She dives right into the blackberry patch.. The impenatrable fortress to man..

There are a handful of chickens that found a hole in the lean-to pen.. they go in with the peacocks for the night.. I let them out during the day.. the hole is small and in a corner.. the peacocks haven't found it yet..

Dr H. what Ford are you thinking of buying? a tractor? don't forget about the live PTO.. If the carb is on the front, it prolly does not have it.. if the carb is on the side, it MIGHT have live..

I would just keep borrowing, as long as Donny doesn't mind.. There are long periods of time when a tractor sets idle.. I have 2 of them and only about 5 acres cleared.. overkill ? ya thlink?

I should sell the farmall A with the buzz saw.. I burn so little wood anymore that I can keep up with the chain saw.. heII, I can keep up using the cut-offs from the table saw..

Speaking of chainsaw, this winter, I am planning on trimming a lot of branches higher so I don't keep knocking my hat off when I am mowing the grass.

I have a lot of cleaning up to do around the garage before snow flies, too.. Have to move the two big pens so I can plow stratigically around them.. have to get a load of straw bales to make wind breaks for the geese, too..

.......jiminwisc........

Good morning! Been a working morning for DD25 and me today already...we both slept in until 8:45 it was so dark and dreary...then we dumped ALL the cat boxes into a muck bucket and wheeled the whole mess out to the old silo (my dump site for most things organic) and dumped it in...then washed and refilled with baking soda and Bentonite...whew! A little vacuming for cleanup and the house smells better already! THen we took out the HEAVY air conditioner from the LR window and setit on the kitchen table...DH wants to eat tonight he will have to carry it out to the barn for storage. All the while we were moving it I kept thinking, "I put the thing in by myself???" Man, I musta been really HOT to do that!

So now I am catching up before I go out and do a bit for the animals and then to work for the rest of the day...I might phone my afternoon client and see if she "really" needs me to show up...I dont feel all that well today...making SIS's salsa this afternoon sounds much more relaxing than going to deal with her anyhow!

Here is a pic of DD19 at the horse show at the state fair park. I think I told you all that her results were not good. She and the horse did great but upon talking with other participants and hearing their opinions of the judge....yeah, let's just say that it was one judge's opinion at one show on one day!

So I guess I better git--I need to go and slide around in the mud and try not to fall down...did that on Saturday! YUCK! Have a fantastic day! Terri O

(PS) glad the peahen is back Jim! Hey, how do you know when an owl gets your stuff? Pile of feathers? IT's just gone? What?

TO Beautiful horse and your daughter is a cutie too !!! I don't know if we've ever had an owl get any of our chickens but I can tell you that the fox has gotten our and sometimes a few feathers but most of the time there is no evidence at all, they are just gone. Last winter some kind of flying object got one of our guineas that was roosting on top of our chicken run. There was fresh snow in the run and the guinea was laying in the middle of it all bloody and torn up. No tracks of any kind so we know it attacked from above. Come to think of it we did see one bird track in the snow so we know it was a flying object.

When something got our guinea that was on a nest in the tall grass she must have hugged the eggs tight because whatever it was must have grabbed and got a mouth full of feathers before i finally grabbed her and took off with her. We are suspecting a fox as well.

But DH was in his tree stand the other day and saw a coyote and a turkey. We've never seen a coyote up near the house.

Yeah, Judges can be well you know backsidee$ !! There was a young girl at a barn where we boarded. She had a haflinger. I remember them coming home from a show and the grandparents said the judge basically telling the young girl that he doesn't care for haflingers and that she did Ok for a haflinger !!! GEEZZZ

TO did ya put the A/C in his spot at the table? Might help. Jim yup it's that 9N side carb same one that's on my Case but still no interlock on the brakes hear they made a ton variations. Think my money could be spent in better places as long as I have access to his equipment. But...... BFF was just out had him bring some of the extra cayenne's was in the middle of washing up the dehydrator so I guess I'm not done with this years harvest yet. Between him and I there's enough for a load to dry and he says there's a bunch more there. So L will have enough for her pizza and me for chili seasoning. Their daughter was home sick today so he's sitting. He was going to hunt out here this AM but when his wife gets home from work he'll come out. They both got to try the new pickles and before they left there was only a half a qt left. And got a phone call from the friend that's cleaning out the stupid box and said he made burgers and brats on the grill and half the jar of giardineara was already gone. Just like our gardens your always refining things. And it almost always gets better! Almost

I made a 15 bean soup yesterday, and used a rotissary chicken carcass as stock but added a low sodium/low fat chicken stock after a few hours to the soup.
I then added carrots, because my friend Joan read that if you add carrots to bean soup you won't pass gas.
Then added canned potatoes, and more chicken and then a can of corn.
It worked out well!! So good!! I just had some for lunch.

Have a great day!

I am so happy with him. He may just be a pet. He has been raising a baby chick that didnt have anyone else. So cute.

Later this week I am trading some of my pumpkins for some good breeding silkies.

I can hardly wait!!!!!

I have to cull some of my roos today.

I guess it is just better to get it over with as soon as possible, nosense in dragging it out any longr.

Anyone on here ever "wash" their lawn. ? I spent 2-3 hours yesterday spraying my lawn and dissolving chicken poo.
tongue2.gif
Also sprayed out my coop and used bleach to clean it. MMM smells nice. I am going to do it one more time before winter to make sure it is especially clean.

TO what a nice picture of horse and your DD.
