Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

HI all, I just finished with supper. Annie and I did in 20 roosters this afternoon.. just aout filled up freezer #6..Now she looks at me and asked, do you think 5 turkeys are going to fit in there?
HeII no.. It is just about full to the top with chickens and a deer.

I think we got all the barred rock roosters.. 13 of them.. then we rounded out the 20 quota with 7 americauna.. I learned something today.. americauna are tender.. I had to cool off the scaulding water to about 125 F.

TO,, your Pack went..
ETA,, at the bottom of some of these posts..when I see one of them again, I will point it out..

FT, you are my favorite,, don't tell the rest of the kids..

It should take a week for the hole to fill in somewhat, two weeks for almost complete heal..
Keep your darn tongue out of there.. Didn't the dentist tell you about dry hole ? (or whatever they call it) You have to have that blood in the hole to help with the healing.. If you keep licking it clean, it will hurt like heII..

FT..I don't really want an answer,; but what possessed you to put the feathers in your pants in the first place ??

I had the stripped sunflowers.. you can toss the whole head in with the chickens.. they will have no problem cleaning the seeds off once they figure out that it isn't in there to kill them..

Hi again...there was something else I wanted to say...now to remember it! Got the critters locked up early tonight, actually before it was full dark! A record for me...oh yeah, last night something chewed on one of my baby guineas that I had just moved into that new coop! They didnt go inside and I figured no big deal cause I have had birds in there all summer with no

issues...well last night something must have reached in to try and get one cause she has an open area on her breast about 2X3! I cleaned it up today and took the dead skin off. Smeared it with triple antibiotic...I sure hope it granulates and is fine. She didnt seem any worse for wear but there really wasnt anything there that I could stitch up. Sometimes I think it is better to just let them heal on their own.

I also tried to catch the two remaining pigeons...yup--lost another one sometime in the last 12 hours from when I saw them last night on their roost place to this morning...I was unable to get them into the net and they went up on the coop roof...might not be feeding too many pigeons this winter...

I am definitely setting the live trap tonight...probably only catch a cat; that is usually what happens. I am always leery of setting it and luring predators to the area if there arent any...yeah right! Who am I kidding but myself? I sure wish some of these good for nothing dogs would sleep outside and keep them away! That was the best when I had an outside dog...

I got the fence stretcher made today and actually used it!!! Put up the rest of the fence until I ran out of fencing...only 15 feet left! I racked my brain to try and think of some extra I might have somewhere...nope--only really short stuff for the garden...guess I have to make a trip to F&F tomorrow. (oh shucks!) Then I will pick up some straw from my neighbor and make a hut for the ducks in that pen...I figure if they arent walking all around where I do it might be a "little" cleaner....

Well FT--I hope you get stuff ironed out or you can just send your guy down here to live at my place with my DH and I will come up there with all my stuff...I dont eat frozen pizza however...but I will bring seatbelts so when you shower you dont slip

off the ATV!

Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O--making some popcorn and going up to read early....

ETA: (there it is again Jim...) haha yeah, just wanted to say it means "edited to add" oh and for cripes sake STOP typing when I do!!!! Good night--yup, old here too!

TO, I would set the trap mainly for rats.. they can eat the underbelly out of a bird and the bird won't even be aware of it.

You won't lure predators in,, they are there already.. You just have not seen them..

Jodie, to start, let the chicks out just before dark ..leave a light on inside where you want them to go into.. chickens will naturally gravitate to the lightest spot in the yard when it gets dark at night.. ie. they will go to the light..

i just had a thought.. when I pull my post to edit it, and somebody just happens to be reading it just at that moment, does it disappear for them >??

ETA..goodnight.. I just wanted to use ETA, now that I know what it means.. LOL

Packer win evening to all!!!

This is SIS for Brent...been lurking and reading too much (me) we finally went to eye dr on friday.... oh g went that whole way found out Brent should of been on another eye drop
somad.gif
He couldn't read the eye chart... so they put him back on the pressure med. got out of the dr office went and stopped at a store and he says the tire looks low .....I get out and said it was flat...went 2 blocks back to fill it with air and it was good. Didn't want to take any chances so decided to go right home....... ya right........going down hwy 29 at 60 miles an hour....he goes what the hell is that noise? I go the tire.... OMG it was shredded. So we limped to a side road (thank g it was close) and put the ring of bologna tire on and limped home at 50 mph. That day seems like a life time ago.

Hey Jim you bought your feed a week early fleet had a special this week ..buy 3 bags of layer crumble and get a free scratch grain block for free. They also have the half gallon wide mouth canning jars there for 8.99, We bought some there last year. Our kids think 3 freezers is way too much! Actually so do we.

TO... yup the buckeyes lay brown eggs.

FT... You live in Rhinelander?

Our potato harvest is going great!!! So far we have dug 5 rows and got more than 5 bushels. LOTS of french fry potatoes, and we still have 2 rows to dig yet. I think i'll be canning some more and making and freezing some fries for the winter. YUM Plus we still have the beets, carrots ,onions, more broccoli and squash! Tomatoes pretty much went south. But that's ok with us altho' I will miss the fresh ones. Only have a few left to eat.

Our son stopped over after hunting and showed us his trophy 8 pointer......perfect shot and saw it go down. It was a different one that niether of us saw on the camera. Just beautiful. Thinking about 200.

Well glad to hear everything is going great for everyone (from what i remember) time for eyedrops. Nite and sleep well.

Brent and Suzie

Evening All!!
Go Pack!! YEah!!
Despite my best efforts, we had an escapee...the little blue rooster. He is in the young chicken stall now.

We had a faux emergency, DH's cousin calls all frantic, their uncle was supposedly on life support, probably gonna die... need to find his son.
No one had a working phone number, we being the internet savvy ones of the family... PLS oh PLS help us find him.
Well we think we have found him, there is a volunteer fire dept that DH found that has his name listed on a duty crew roster. I called them,
and asked them to get a hold of him some how and call his aunt.
I call her to let her know we think we found him...
Turns out the life support... gonna die.. Nooooo!!!! Broken hip and needs an MRI... Jiminy Crickets...
Grrrr.

WOrked with client's horses and gave his grandson a riding lesson on his pony.. then we went for a ride.

Laters will get pics up tomorrow.

good morning, the dog woke us a half hour late this morning,, He barked at 2 instead of 1:3o AM.. I must have gone back to sleep but then I had wierd dreams, so I am up..

Annie hit the wrong butto on the coffee maker, so the coffee is done, but it is cold already.. It doesn't have perpetual warming..

No quail hatching yet.. I have a post on here somewhere that tells me when I set them.. I did not write it down anywhere else..I always say I will remember, but then I don't..

Brent, do you take Kosopt? (sp).. that is what I am on, twice a day..

I just love tire trouble.. It always hits when you are nowhere that you can do much about it..

I had a tire puncture while in the deer woods.. BC...Before cell phone..25 miles from home.. 6 miles into the woods.. No tool to remove the lug nuts.. Nobody driving down that road.. I had a hatchet and a chisel. It took me over 3 hours to get that tire off..

congrats to the son's 8 pointer..

My brother has a handicap, so he can use a crossbow.. that is one awesome machine.. I inherited one.. but I have never shot it.. It intimidates me..

It is funny , our kids think that 6 freezers is a lot also,, but they sure are happy to help empty them.. LOL

Annie said last night,, I guess we will not go hungry this winter..
Ya think ??

Carol,, good thing that Uncle is not on life support, but wouldn't you like to put somebody on it ?? How does news get twisted like that ?? My middle brother was like that.. He once went unavailable for 6 years.. Now that he is retired and settled down, he chides US for not keeping in touch with him enough..LOL There, now how do you like it ??

time to go nuke a cuppa..

.........jiminwisc.........

ETA ... I found it.. I set 59 quail eggs on 9/17/11
17 + 18 = 35 -31 = due on 10/4/11

Good Morning All! Slept until almost 6 it was wonderful! FT whad I say whad I say? But sure appreciate you finding my mind it's been missing for a long time. Not surprised it was in the gutter. Like TO's stapler it was in the last place I used it.

Checked on line banking this morning looks like I got payed finally!

SIS that had to suck about the tire. Sounds like your set to make it through another winter. No potato famine there! Quite the weekend for Wi as far as sports.

WCc I've learned not to believe all of what I hear until I have the facts. Too many times I've gone into a tizzy for no reason. Don't really like the idea of all these seperate bashes but realize it would be more feasible for many. It's just that then I wouldn't get to see some of you.
hit.gif
Guess we could come to some of them but that really cuts into my sittin around time.
lol.png
But on second thought if we did go to different ones we'd be able meet more people. Now I'm confused. Going to do what was planned to do on Sat. lots of running.

Indian summer

Good morning! Yeah for the sun! It always makes me happy when I see the sun first thing in the morning. Two quail peeping in the bator this morning...now this confuses me:

.........jiminwisc.........

ETA ... I found it.. I set 59 quail eggs on 9/17/11
17 + 18 = 35 -31 = due on 10/4/11

Does it mean that you put in 35 and took out 31 so 4 should hatch on the 4th? What about the 59? I guess it is just too early for me to do any cipherin'!
Sounds like lots op people were having issues with the internet and their computers last night...I was looking forward to nice long posts from FT and Cind...oh well. How is it going with your son Cind? Nice that he has help so you dont have to do it all!

This Indian Summer thing is weird to me...when I was a kid Indian Summer was the warm bit after the KILLING FROST. Everyone is saying Indian Summer (even on the radio) and we havent even had a frost here to kill the basil! And that is the tenderest plant that I grow! Hmmm--maybe I have been mistaken all these years? I am going to look around on the internet and see if I can find my answer.

Hopefully Tiki and I can do a switch of muskovies and game birds in spring! Yeah...I will finally have my Modern Games!
Have a fantastic day! TErri O
