Hens and Roos,
We put ours in the Seal-a-Meal bags (the one's that go with the vacuum sealer thingees) then put that bag into gallon-size Ziploc freezer bags. So far, so good. No problems as of yet. Good luck!

thanks that is the direction we are planning on going. A friend is letting us use her food saver and we have bags that we can make a long as we need- I have 11" wide and 8" wide so hopefully that will work

we use ziploc freezer bags.. the trick is to get all the air out that you can, no matter what bags you use.. If you don't have a vaccuum sealer, try this :

put the chicken into a plastic bag, then dip the bag into a pail of water, right up to the open top, just short of letting water in,, then close the bag and remove it from the water.. there should only be air inside the chicken, and the bag should be clinging to the chicken..

that is how we did it at the chicken farm where I worked,, before ziploc bags were invented..

there are also bags available that you can dip into hot water and they shrink, like you see in the super markets.. I can order them from Whizbang.. they are a bit pricey, but I think about the same price as the vaccuum bags..

I would get a vaccuum sealer, if I ever saw one that was not just a step above being a cheap toy..

I saw some plastic bags with an attachment on them for sucking the air out.. not recently, though.. my sister had some, I will call her and see if they are still available and where she got them..

FT. OK,, let me know at least the night before you come down so I can keep the chickens locked up the next morning.. If they get into the blackberry patch, you can forget about catching any..

I made it a point to drag the trailer of cedar 2x10's out today.. I had to pump up a tire, so it took just a bit longer than 5 minutes..

I am thinking of hauling the planer outside for this project. there are some pretty long boards to do.. and then I can blow the shavings right into the tractor bucket, also.. first I will have to make a 220V extension cord.. he planer weighs about 400 pounds.. hmmm, I wonder how much Annie can carry.. she could prolly carry it all alone, if I used a whip.. eh?

I was going through my recipes.. did somebody here send me a catsup recipe ? I thought somebody did, but don't remember who.. ?

FT- only one rooster pls!!

H&R- and everyone else.. have you all forgotten about press and seal? ?? I would use press and seal around the chicken IF you are going to cut it up, then put it in a plastic freezer bag. press n seal allows you to get all of the air out.

I am rethinking my blue rooster.. I think he needs to go into a pot.. for now he seems Okay in the big chicken stall, my golden sebright seems okay there too. she likes being the smallest chicken!!

We used a FoodSaver that my friend has let us store for her

As long as we cut the "make your own bags" big enough it sealed up nicely, figure this out by trial and error(lots of error)! Kept one brolier out and we will be having that this weekend. Our smallest bird was 4.28 lbs with the biggest one 5.11 lbs, the others were closer to the biggest birds weight.

Have to get the kids to bed, have a good night everyone!

Well I have 3 that I saved so when I find out if I have female I could give you one. I had 2 more cochins hatch and I think both will be frizzled. And 5 white silkies (4 vaulted skulls- I hoping that means 4 females) and 3 of the little leghorns left that mama didnt eat.

I know the brown one is a roo... he crowed. The other I hope is a hen. I haven't heard it crow, it's legs are a bit thinner and the tail is shorter. But what do you think?

They are both beautiful cindlady and i do believe both roos IMO. The toulbant colored one has sweet girly eyes but dont let that fool ya. He will probably be a Mr Rowdy when he grows up.

Hey Cind if you are talking about that last pic I would definitely say a roo! Look at the longish feathers on his neck. I think I see sickle feathers too and there is that little bump on his legs that will turn into a spur. He is really cool looking! I love the mixed up ones like that myself! I am going to bed NOW!
