we use ziploc freezer bags.. the trick is to get all the air out that you can, no matter what bags you use.. If you don't have a vaccuum sealer, try this :
put the chicken into a plastic bag, then dip the bag into a pail of water, right up to the open top, just short of letting water in,, then close the bag and remove it from the water.. there should only be air inside the chicken, and the bag should be clinging to the chicken..
that is how we did it at the chicken farm where I worked,, before ziploc bags were invented..
there are also bags available that you can dip into hot water and they shrink, like you see in the super markets.. I can order them from Whizbang.. they are a bit pricey, but I think about the same price as the vaccuum bags..
I would get a vaccuum sealer, if I ever saw one that was not just a step above being a cheap toy..
I saw some plastic bags with an attachment on them for sucking the air out.. not recently, though.. my sister had some, I will call her and see if they are still available and where she got them..
FT. OK,, let me know at least the night before you come down so I can keep the chickens locked up the next morning.. If they get into the blackberry patch, you can forget about catching any..
I made it a point to drag the trailer of cedar 2x10's out today.. I had to pump up a tire, so it took just a bit longer than 5 minutes..
I am thinking of hauling the planer outside for this project. there are some pretty long boards to do.. and then I can blow the shavings right into the tractor bucket, also.. first I will have to make a 220V extension cord.. he planer weighs about 400 pounds.. hmmm, I wonder how much Annie can carry.. she could prolly carry it all alone, if I used a whip.. eh?
I was going through my recipes.. did somebody here send me a catsup recipe ? I thought somebody did, but don't remember who.. ?
