Yep that is very handsome roo !!! What are the parents?
Look at his hackle feathers. Looks Ameraucana cross right or EE? They mature slower as we all have been experiencing here !!!

I heard it was 80 here today. Deb was prolly out dancing in her 'kini today, hey, DrH?
FT, please let me know when you'll be down here for the weekend. I'd love to meet up with you too. My sis lives in Racine.

Chikaine, perhaps?
Cind, the coyotes were going nuts last night here too, but these were in my neighbors backyard. Better his than mine. I've had them run right up next to the garage & have thrown apples at them. They came back for them.
Hope your cat was ok.
Thank you for the pear butter recipes. DH & I picked the pears off the late tree. Boy, was it loaded!
Yep, we followed suit & had pork chops for dinner tonight too, with taters, gravy & corn. You all started something.
Awwww, TO, I just love your babies!!!!! So darn cute!
Only got to page 1251 & have to go to bed. Can't keep the peepers open. Hope I can catch up tomorrow. Sweet dreams, all!
Yep, I thought that one was to pretty and too colorful to be a hen
Guess I'll try to tame them and see how they do. The eggs were suppose to be Ameraucanas, the eggs were blue.
Here is my new roosts I put in a few weeks ago. 6 rungs 8ft long. The low rung is at 25" the high one at 72". It's on hinges so I can hook it up to the rafters to clean. Mostly made of scrap and that warped deck wood, coast less than $8! Got the hinges at a rummage sale for $1 a piece.
New feeder.... the wood blocks keep the bucket in place, they need a second screw lol. Note I notched the rails on the roost so the bars set level, easy on their feet. Nothing to good for my girls!
I'm going to suggest to DH that we build one like that in our main coop. We have to use 2x4 though. It gets so cold up here that they need to be able to sit their body on their full foot to keep it warm.
I made a feeder similar to yours but I used the plastic flower pot saucers from Menards. I drilled holes thru the bottom of the bucket and saucer in 4 spots for the 5 gallon feeder and screwed it together with the nuts on the inside. I made smaller versions with ice cream pails (good excuse to have ice cream) and also from the clear plastic containers that those cheese curls and pretzels come in for my silkies. I also have used the plastic containers that protien powder comes in at Walmart. They all work good however the ice cream pails crack sometimes. Good excuse to replace them !!
Yeah the pretty ones are always roossters !!!
Oh and Kristip, Sorry I keep forgetting to add that the picture you posted of your daughter is Adorable !!!
I didn't remember how to spell your username, finally went back and looked at it closer, Got it now !!!
Gonna try to get to bed earlier today, my sleep is all balled up from last night or should I say morning !! Going to bed at 7am is well, crazy. My trip to the towns today was only semiproductive !!! By the time I left Rhinelander and headed to Antigo I got about 10 miles fromt the feed store and called to tell them I was on my way but was at such and such intersection. They said they had put in a long day and I said I'd come back tomorrow !!!
Since I was almost there I decided go to Anitigo anyway. Hit the GoodWill and was to pooped to go to Fleet Farm for shavings. Guess tomorrow is another day !!!
So much for just staying home and spending time for the animals !!! Back to town !!
Anyway, Carol and TO, since he weather has been nice and tonght will be above 40 degrees is it safe to let the horses out on pasture for maybe an hour or so tomorrow? They haven't been out since the first two days a few weeks ago now. I'll have DH give them half their hay for the morning so they won't go out with empty stomachs. Then I'll lure them in with more hay (yeah like that will do it right ? LOL) and apples !!! Then if all else fails I'll them up with the ATV, fully clothed !! LOL
Gonna have to take a sleeping pill tonight to get back on schedule I think.
Jim... My mom lived north of Hayward and had a pear tree up there! Maybe something in your soil? AHHH.... the water trick!!! I remember doing that with the twist top bags! Forgot all about it! So what are your plans for all that nicely planed cedar? (You did say it was ceder right?) Shame to have it all go to shavings.
My living room has 2 walls done in cedar and the outside of the coop is cedar. Is it white, yellow or red cedar? This is all white that I have.
TO.... your hens always seem to be full of surprises! This isn't the one that had a clutch in the rafters, was it?
Bl4.... Very nice pic.! Where was the groom?
FT... I guess if anyone would know roosters it's you! LMAO!!!
Looks like I may be getting there too!
You do have some very pretty ones... hard to decide which to get rid of I bet.
I looked for a flower pot bottom first but I couldn't find one! Then I saw that pan at TSC for about $4 which was less than the pot bottom would have been... and it won't break! For now I have a dog bowl between the bucket and pan. I found it works better raised up a bit. Also, on the inside is a pyramid to push the feed to the holes and not get stuck where the holes aren't. So far, works great!
CC... The coyotes were out again tonight but luckily it sounds like they are farther away, The neighbor had music playing outside tonight.... think that kept them away! DH said he let the cat in before he went to work.... haven't seen her
she dose NOT like all these new critters coming into HER house! I think she's mad at all of us! I feel bad for her.
Jim (again)... I sure wish you could post pic.s of the guinea eggs! I THINK they are laying! I looked at some other pics of guinea eggs and I have some that size and shape but I have pullets and 2 bantams so the size of theirs would be about the same. The ones I think are guineas are more "triangle" shaped.
Very Good Morning All! So many cool pics! Cind I was planning on doing the hinge and hook trick too when I was setting the coop but the roost ended up smaller so I can just move it around for cleaning. I did do that with the windows, it works pretty slick. Jim I too forgot about the water trick for bag sealing thanks for the reminder! We gotta stick together on this remembering thing.
I bought some boxes of bags from Fleet that claim to work in all vacuum sealers for $6 less a box than the Food Saver ones. BFF had problems with them but I found that if you put a little extra pressure on the lid of the sealer that they work just fine! And I kept extra pressure on it for a few seconds after the light goes out.
Got way more done yesterday than planned amazing what you can get done when not constantly interupted. CC was thinking about dk too but was thinking she was probably down to 2 layers of long johns.
FT the last pic looks like McIntosh to me? Going to have the Jeep packed and warmed up waiting for L to get home then it's nortward!
I was outsid eyesterday and looked over and here was Peatwo laying on the ground head down. I called him, he didn't move. My heart sank. I called him again and he jumped up and came to me. Lil SNOT scared the crap out of me. He thought it was funny! I didn't! Don't think he'd let me take a pic of him in his current state. He's pretty embarassed. More beautiful weather ahead!
