Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well FT---if you would go to bed earlier you might be able to get up earlier? LOL--I am a morning person myself...thinking about just hanging on the puter for the rest of the night...NOT! The people are going to a hockey game or something tonight so I have the house to myself...I will be working on that baby's first calendar I need to finish before he is born! After I find the answer to my quail question I am GOING OUT FOR A RIDE ON MY HORSE!!!! Yup I am actually going to do it! Gotta get him in the groove before I put kids on him tomorrow!

ANother nest of 10 muskovies hatched to day...3 eggs left--popped them in the bator as long as I had it running. One was pipped but dead...not incubating that one!

Nothing like waiting til the last minute to get the horse in the groove hey??? LOL

Who's having a baby ???? Are you gonna be a granny ????

Any idea how to make that soup TO, you're the expert !!!
hugs.gif
Well, you and all the others on here !!! Don't wanna hurt any feelings!!

Called BIL, now it doesn't look like they will be coming up. Can't leave tonight and round trip is about $200 in gas and he doesn't want to come for one day. I know how that feels.

I'm looking for a truck cap on CL for our truck. We have one but DH took it off so when we get hay he can fit more on. Well, sitting in the driveway the glass on the one whole side shattered !!! He asked me if I hit it with something !!! NO

He has this ability to hit things however, The side mirror is loose cause he hit the mail box. The rear fender is smashed cause he jackknifed the horse trailer

Would you believe it is going to cost over $600 to fix the window on the cap. It is cheaper to buy a used one. I found a used one but it is silver/gray. Our truck is maroon but I think has gray way at the bottom. The guy wants $300 he will meet me in Eagle River tomorrow if I want. If he'll take $200 I might take it. Better then green or blue right !!! LOL
That way I can bring the truck down to Racine if I get a cap. Easier to transport birds but alot more for gas going to Madison etc. But I can bring some stuff back from my house. Like I really have the room up here. Still need a firecracker shoved up my donkey!!

Anyway, I don't know why I'm a night owl. My dad was too. As a kid my sister would jump out of bed in the morning for school, me on the other hand my mom would have to wake and pull out of bed.
What's weird it I hate giving in to the night and going to bed, you would think then I'd like to get up in the morning right? WRONG, I hate giving in to the mornings just as much as giving into the night !!! WEIRD I know !!
Doesn't help matters that I have so many parts to assemble into or on in the morning no wonder I hate getting dressed !!! But what was my excuse as a child???? LOL

Ok, still haven't had my second cuppa. Going to get that now, make a few needed phone calls and then well, pick one of the several dozen chores to do for the day !!

Oh, need to make that soup today so NEED ADVICE PLEASE.

Oh and I want to dry some cilantro in the oven. Figured I'd rinse it, chop it and put it on cookie sheets at around 150 deg, sound about right. ????

Thanks

AhhhHHHH, I'm so longwinded, fingered that I misssed TO, she is offline now !!!! Hope she has a good ride !!!!

FrenchToast asked (re: roasting peppers): "So does anyone know how I should go about making this ???? I don't wanna screw up. DH said to roast red peppers you roast them on an open flame until they are charred. Then put them in a plastic bag and shake off the black. Gotta be an easier way. I have an electric stove so no open flames in the house (good thing, dust bunnies would ignite !! LOL)".

Your husband is right that that is one way to do it. You can also roast them on a BBQ outside which is how I prefer to do it so the house doesn't stink up. You can also roast peppers in the oven. I've done green peppers in the oven and they were delicious! Here, I just copied this off the internet for you from http://www.copywriterskitchen.com/2009/08/12/how-to-make-easy-oven-roasted-peppers/
(I
haven't proofed it - but there can't be a lot of different ways for oven roasting, I'd think?)

Easy oven-roasted peppers
2-4 red or yellow peppers

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Line a jelly roll sheet with foil.
Wash peppers and lay them on their sides on the foil.
Slide sheet into oven and roast peppers for 15 minutes.
Slide sheet out of oven and, using tongs or a fork, give peppers a quarter turn. Be sure to handle the peppers carefully so you do not puncture them and burn yourself on the steam that builds up inside the peppers. Put sheet back into the oven.
Check peppers and give them a quarter turn every 15 minutes until they are roasted on all sides and soft to the point of collapse—about 45 minutes.
Remove peppers from oven and let them sit until cool enough to handle.
Gently pull stem from peppers—if you are careful you will be able to neatly remove most of the seeds with one gliding tug.
Slice peppers open on one side and scrape away remaining seeds.
The pepper’s skin should be wrinkly and loose. Grasp the skin at the edge of the pepper and carefully peel off the skin in sections.
Use peppers immediately—try my Penne with Roasted Red Peppers and Pan-Fried Potatoes—or store in air-tight container in fridge until ready to use. You may also freeze peppers—but be aware they lose some of their firmness after freezing. Thawed roasted peppers are best incorporated into slow-cooked dishes such as Hearty Red Pepper and Corn Vegetarian Chili, or puréed recipes such as hummus or Romanesco Sauce.

Well that's all I have time for for now

-- just enough to get you started!
Elaine

P.S. Does anyone know of any stores in the Madison area that carries refrigerated lard?

Thanks Elaine !!!! I knew someone would come thru for me !!! I bought 5 peppers, I might do them all and freeze what I don't use since they will be going for just soup.
I can't believe the price. $1.50 each at Wally World. Next year I'm planting red peppers !!! Hopefully the deer don't eat them. Very expensive garden this year. The deer loved everything. I didn't even get to make my cabbage head yello stuff and white stuff with our cabbages !!!

The funniest part of that is while DH was up in his deer stand bow hunting the deer were in his garden having a feest !!!

Thanks again.

Yeah FT do what Elaine said...you could put the peppers in a paper bag to "sweat" them before peeling..works good! I would try boiling the potatoes and celery and onion in water until nearly done. Drain and make a roux with the cooking water, butter and flour. Add more water and the potatoes, onions, peppers and celery. Stir to cook thoroughly. Let me know how it turns out if you do it! Its a cream soup so I bought half and half for that. So make the roux and add the half & half?
Nothing diet around here !! Can you tell !! Well actually I have some half and half that is fat free, but adding butter to the recipe voids that out !!
