Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning everyone...what a morning already! The milk DH brought home yesterday (and dropped on the floor) leaked all over the refrigerator last night! YUCK--the whole bottom shelf and the crisper were full of milk! Yeah it needed cleaning anyhow but before coffee??? I didnt put that baby pigeons in last night so I went right out when I got up to put them into the barn...didnt seem any worse for wear from their shower all night...I had pictures running through my head that they would look like drowned rats like the chickens do when wet...nope. THey like it when I mist them with the hose (so do the quail) so they must have thought it was a nice bath....they must have oil like ducks? So I let almost everyone out while I was out there...what a mess! IT is SO MUDDY! Was kind of nice when it was dry...oh well--soon it will freeze!

So I am finally having my coffee...the parrots were very noisy so I had to give them some attention...now I realize that DH must have forgotten to put half flavored coffee in the pot cause it tastes not like good coffee today...AND it is our anniversary and when I called DH to say Happy Anniversary he said "It's tomorrow Honey." NOT! Twenty Seven years today--

Holy Crap!
So Jim...you must have missed it...I was just teasing you about not believing Brent and then he made a comment...so what did this guy say to you in the restaurant and how did you know he was a sex offender? Curious minds ya know....I'm glad you avoided a fist fight...I hate seeing old guys fighting! Besides, you dont want to get kicked out of any restaurants...how many can there be up there?

Amyable! Glad you are back! You must be pretty busy with the little guys! You and Raiq hardly post any more...lots easier when they are still in the bator hey?

I can just picture that cute little smile of Cartman's when he bites you! You know (DrH) they say that biting them just teaches them to bite more and doing it doesnt work....yeah well, I say it does! My son was a terrible biter (and he was 2!) He didnt bite me but he would bite other kids when he was frustrated...until one day he bit the wrong little girl! She turned around and bit him so hard on the arm that he had a blood blister! But he never bit anyone again! I think they just dont realize how much it hurts until someone gets them back!
(maybe worth a shot Amy?

)

Well, guess I better go and get ready for work...lots to do before I leave! Have a great day--bring the 'brella! Terri O

good rainy morning, this should make the gardens grow.. whoops !! I forgot what time of year it is..

DrH, do they have rotten granite pits close to you ? My BFF told me that the area around Wisc is about the only place it is available in the US.. a 12 yard load from the material yard is $180.oo,, I paid less than that since I had Jim bring it for me..
His Mom took care of me and my brothers when we were tiny babes.. My Mom had to have an operation.. So Jim's mother heard that Mom was giving us kids up for adoption.. NOT the case.. but she would have taken us anyway, and added us to her 13 kids.. talk about a big hearted woman, eh?

Brent, is your tractor just hard to start ? or doesn't it run ..
You have the idenical carburator as I have on my Oliver. I could not find Oliver parts, so I rebuilt my carb with Ford parts..

DrH, we could hook a chain to Brent's Ford and have a 3 tractor parade.. Maybe we could even find something to protest and drive to the Capitol.. LOL

The game fowl breeder told me that there are white birds.. they are rare.. He is trying to breed a line of them.. my hens are pure black, but the roosters start out black and when they mature, all sorts of colored feathers appear.. I will send FT a photo of my "late" rooster, the father of your bird..

My TGF are not very vocal,, but at bedtime they sit on the roost and make cooing sounds.. like a tiny choir.. Last night I heard what sounded like a radio going with voices too low to make out the words. I actually walked to the lean/to and it was the TGF's singing/humming..

C.C, yes,, the whole flock walks around here with silly grins on their faces during wine making time..

I have a couple of blackberry patches that the birds have poop-planted for me..

My pear butter recipe is what I gleaned from here on chs/hds.
cook the pears on low heat to soften them, run them through the cone shaped thingy to mush them and remove any large chunks of skin and stray seeds.. put them into a wide bottom kettle with a vanilla bean and simmer until it is reduced enough so that when you put a spoonful on a plate, it does not get a water ring around it.. I did NOT put sugar in it.. It was plenty sweet, and by reducing it, the sweetness intensifies.. Just like dehydrated fruit..

My Mom used to make apple butter.. I never liked it.. This pear butter is OK, but I don't know how I am going to use it.. On bread? as an ice cream topping ? It is quite sweet.. maybe use it in glaze on roasted ducks..?

this is getting quite long.. that is what happens when you don't keep up.. (and when it is too wet to go outside)

I have a blue light indicator when an email comes to me, and a note across the bottom of the page flashes that an email is coming in.. It only says "from BYC", but I knew it was from TerriO. LOL who else would be sending while I am typing ??

My Mom did a LOT of babysitting in our home while we were growing up.. She never allowed biting.. I don't know how she cured the kids from doing it, but she did not bite them, not that I know of,, at least not in front of me.. she always said, that a bite is the most painful and dangerous kind of weapon.. None of her 6 kids (us) ever bit another..

Terri, I did not avoid the fist fight,, HE did.. My father and 3 of his brothers, were golden glove champs, and he taught all of us kids, including my sisters how to box, plus half of the neighbor boys.. Trust me, that derilect unknowlingly did the right thing by not standing up..

I got m granite spread by the guinea coop yesterday. It is llike heaven to not walk in mud/poop. C.C. especially in my sandals..
I think I grew two inches taller this summer, though..

Oooh, ooh! Does that mean I could get someone to ferry me some of BBP's beautiful lav orps?

Angiebubs! Glad you decided to join us & quit your "stalking".

Guess we can't sound all that bad if new people are willing to join us.

Oh yeah, Jim, would you please post your pear butter recipe? I made pumpkin butter years ago and it was soooo delish! Too bad I can't remember where I put the darn thing.

I didn't get around to canning today. The weather around here was too beautiful to be inside. Sounds like plenty of inside weather is coming, though.

I got all the chicken waterers & rabbit hoppers scrubbed and bleached out today. And I got most of my planters & garden decor stuff put away for the winter. Really should have washed it up a little but was too lazy. Mom is feeling a little better today, so that is good. I, on the other hand, am feeling like she shared her illness......

Bigz, get a Farmall.

Sweet dreams, all!

Thanks, DH says the "useless" one had to have a cool space too

We are planning to come on Oct 22nd- will have to look at the list of food and see what we can bring. We would like $30 for the India Blue male peachick. Let me know.

Hi Amy, CC & Cindlady!

CC) Hey! HEY! If BBP is giving lav orp pullets out, get me some too!
smile.png
I love their fluffy butts!

TO) I laughed out loud (for real) at your inside cleaning comment! Cause I feel the same way!!! As if it will ever be clean. I have so much laundry to do, the boys are going to have to start wearing their underwear inside out to make them last twice as long!! haha, ok j/k.

Heres my chicken wishlist, in case anyone has any:

3-4 Buff or lavender orp pullets
2-3 Silver laced Wyandottes pullets
2-3 Blue laced Red Wyandottes pullets
5-6 Easter Eggers pullets
5 Welsummer pullets
2-3 Salmon Favorelles pullets (muffs and beards!)
1 White silkie pullet for my entertainment

Maybe I can carry it around like one of those fashion-accessory dogs. Carry it into the malls and stuff. Put it in cute sweaters....

Hubby doesn't want to move chickens/ducks, so he says we will rebuild when we get to the new place. I'm not sure I will keep my ducks in my flock. The eggs are good, but we use chicken eggs, and the meat is awesome but if we really want I can just buy a batch to raise up for food. Seeing as they are useless in the winter (no eggs nothing).

Oh, off to do some housework before work. SIGH.

I knew there was something else I wanted to comment on this morning. Nice job on the aviary H&R! Don't think you'll ever have any problems with THAT wire on there! Looks heavy duty! All three loads showed up at the same time so only one got put in the driveway, DARN IT now I have to go back tomorrow and probably play er work all day. Laddick was hauling it from one of their pits think it's up around the Eau Plaine. Oh that pheasant is back, he was at Donny's this morning. Think he's a lonely boy. There's a guy close to here that raises them.

I think it was Laddick who bought my uncle's farm about 40 years ago near Whittlesey.. I drove there to see it around 1978. It is nothing but a huge sand pit then.. I can only imagine what it looks like today..

I think Laddick is from Medford.. ? the pit could very well be around the Eau Pleine.. there are lots of pits in the area..

Nice job on the aviary.. You might want to put some smaller hole wire along the bottom 2 feet high.. weasel protection..

I tried some of that pear butter on my all grain toast this morning.. I liked it, I really liked it.. it turned out to be a very small batch,, 3 tiny jelly glassfuls.. none of that will be given as gifts, you can bet on it..

DrH, at least there will not be any dust blowing around as you level those piles, eh?

Raiguee, your boys can still change their underwear,,the way my mom did it: DS#1 you change with DS#2, DS#3 you change with etc etc..

Is anyone here familiar with the Floralight plant stands for seedlings? Some one in Madison has one on Craigslist for an ok price.... trying to decide if I buy it and tell DH it is my Xmas present. Reviews look pretty good on them. Supposed to be one of the better brands, but some people have issues with the ballasts. Thought I would check. This is my Xmas present ideas for everyone- seed starting/planting supplies. Need to get better organized with that.

Kristi, check with the kids at Madison, they can tell ou the good ones from the not so good ones.. I don't know about now, but there used to be a lot of them into growing "plants"..

I just set my last batch of quail eggs.. 27 of them..
