Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh Dr, you've got me thinking bout fishin'now...I've got a cabin west of Park Falls (right outside of Winter) and we'll be up there third week in May for our annual spring fishing trip...I'll air out the cabin and if the weather cooperates we usually get out on the east fork of the Chip, then Lake Blaisdale, then spend a day out on Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior hunting huge smallies... great fishing if the wind is blowing out of the south, scary if it's coming out of the north or west, but those are HUGE smallies. And some big, big northerns and every now and then maybe a walleye.

I couldn't get anyone up with me this morning and Mom gave me an evil eye when I told her I was heading out early. Unbeknownst to me, I owe her one (I guess maybe more than that but she's the one keeping track), so I told her I'd hold off on Fondy and get the chores done. One of which is using the snake I borrowed from my plumber buddy to clean out the septic line. So instead of reveling in birds and good company this morning I was snaking out the line. Yuch.

Good news, I'm picking up 10 chicks tomorrow, 2 Australorps, 2 RIR, 2 Buff Os, 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 EEs. That should be a nice mix. I told the girls since no one would get their rump out of bed this morning that I was going to name all of them. Well, after some negotiation, I will be naming 2 of them. Which is better than none. Way too much estrogen in this house. I'm going out to the barn to get working on my coop frame. Everyone stay dry today.

Did a Mapquest on your land Dr H...looks like a beautiful area! I have a friend that has a place in Irma...noticed that it was kinda near there. I love that area of the state! You are right, there is something about the air, I think it is all the pines around. Wish we could get a piece of land for a getaway spot. I would probably never go though...too much here at home to take care of. A sad and happy thing I guess...
Rain here today...DH asked why I wasnt going to Fondy...I dislike driving in the rain! Besides, then I would have to get something and I really have no room for anything! I am thinking about all those chicks I am hatching...sure hope I can fit them somewhere. I think I have to do some cleaning out. Just thinkin' aloud here...I do have an unused room or two in the basement...I bet chicks would be pretty happy in there for the meantime...hmmm--the shed--no dogs in there ATM...okay, I think I have a plan! Cant wait to hear DHs reaction. "Now you are putting chickens in there too???" HA! When he finally realizes they are there it will already be TOO LATE! MuaaHaHaHaHa!!! (she laughs evilly)

Corned beef and Cabbage for supper tonight! I can hardly wait. I picked up 2 briskets so we MIGHT have some left overs. That would be nice...red flannel hash. Trying to decide if I want to do it in the crockpot or on the stove. Guess I will check out some recipe reviews and see what they say.

Everybody report on the swap OK? I hope you all have met at the snack bar and had some good talking time! Have a great day! Terri O

Well it was successful for me at the swap. Didn't meet up with anyone but met alot of great people! I have chicks again and it amazes me that I'm just as excited about them as I was the first time. I got 4 chicks, blue cochin, columbian, blue friz and a silver laced polish. I'm so happy and everyone is doing good.

Passed my DH as I was coming home in the doorway and he grumbled at me, Ok what did you get? He was happy about all but the polish. For some reason he doesn't like them. To bad I told him I do. My mother in-law came with and it was everything I could do to stop her from buying everything. She called me at 6:17 and said she was on her way over. I told her that I only brought boot boxes so that she could only get chicks (because that was all I was planning to get) and she said fine. Well when we got there she wanted everything. She bought some polish friz chicks and the guy gave her a big box and her eyes got wide and she looked at me and said now I can get some adults! I just smiled. She is the orginal crazy chicken lady! Man there were alot of people there! Everyone was really nice and for being my first swap it was alot of fun. I saw Tyler but he had alot of people around him looking at his stuff so I didn't bother him. We were looking at some silkie chicks and the guy said that his wife made him come because either the chicks move out or he does. We laughed. Sounds like my other half. Well have a great rainy day everyone, I'm going to nap. I was so excited about today I didn't sleep much and was up at 4. Makes me feel like a little kid again! Talk to you all later!

We just got every one settled in now. I have 15 chicks right now. But I just bought 3 EE pullet babies for my oldest at a swap this morning. They are about a week old. So, so far babylady4 has hatched 11 for me.

oh i would have loved to have been there .. i got done working @ 10 today but would not have had time to get there .. glad to hear you all had a great time
and that you found some nice birds... my pastor was going today to try and sell some of his and to try to get some new birds ......cant wait to hear (rather read) the rest of the stories

2 of the chicks have diarrhea. More liquid that solid. Is that normal from all the activity? They are drinking and eating alright. Hopefully they will be fine.

Added: Also anyone have exspericence with polish chickens? I haven't but I am always jumping in head first and learning as I go. Do they get real big? Are they social? Friendly, ect... I think they are beautiful chickens so I had to have one. It doesn't matter if they are any of those I was just wondering. Thanks!

OK terriO and BBCB you both suck! terriO for the corned beef/cab and having room and BBCB for fishing where I haven't! There is no better fight ounce for ounce than a bronzeback, in the river up by me my personal best is a 22" but lost one that was pushin 24 with a witness, what a hog! Didn't know what it was because of the pull but then I saw it. As soon as I lost it I asked him what do you think that was? And he said 24". He was 90* from me and got a good look, don't know if I'll ever see one like that again but after that you just gotta try. Catfish hunter! BBCB I fished the chip flowage one time on an invite, didn't catch much but saw something I know I'll probably never see again. 4 eaglets in the same nest. I took pics but not discernable. But again I have witnesses. I just love being out there and seeing what is put there just for me. Lunch then nap. I plowed snow today! I plowed snow today! My Stupidvisor looked at my plow set up and said that'll never work which put a smile on my face knowing that if he said that it'll never work it would like a dream, guess what, it does. 41 days!

FM, can you post the pictures in forum size instead of avatar? I know they offer a selection of sizes when you post pics, it is a little difficult to see the babies when they are so tiny.

The 2 EE's have hatched, two WO have hatched, another chipmunk egg has pipped and so has the other EE. Oh the one WO that just hatched was one of the ones the flashlight dropped on too! I am just glad it was the little magnum light instead of the big one that holds 4 D batteries......

So fm how many chicks and chickens are you going to end up with? You do know that they can grow up to be very naughty. Case in point. I took a nice nap and the first thing I did was check the where abouts of the kids. There'a ditch that runs along the property and right now it has about 3 feet of water in it. They were on the other side crying that they were lost. So around I went and herded them around the end of it. It was like chasing pigs, they could see the coop but couldn't get to it and couldn't figure out that I knew a better way home. Had to back track 6 times to get them headed in the right direction even with a chicken stick. L helped by luring them with lettuce. Wish I would of had a camera she was in her house coat and nurse shoes.
