Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hi , Yeah, I am just a wealth of knowlege, ain't I?.. I would like to back the clock up about 40 years.. I would have built chicken coops instead of houses..

I just sold a pair of guineas, a pair of turkeys and a trio of chickens.. It turned out the woman is the daughter of a couple that shared a duplex with us back in 1967.. they are both deceased, but they ended up having 10 children.. this gal is 41 years old,, she was not born yet at the time we knew her parents..

she lives off the grid.. has only solar power.. and does not even have mail service, even though she works at the post office....

Otonoh, the "duplex" is the block house on KK near your house..

Good evening...I was wondering why I wasnt smelling the potatoes in the oven after an hour and a half...hmmm. I can pick them up in my hand! I dont think we will be having stuffed baked potatoes for dinner tonight. Scrambled eggs it is! LOL! I wonder what is wrong with that stove NOW? It is warm but not hot. We just put a new thermostat in it not long ago...

Well, guess I should mix up some eggs to eat. Dh will be happy--his favorite dinner is fried eggs over mashed potatoes...we have some left from last night's dinner. I am surprised though--you shoulda seen the pile 'o spuds he ate for dinner!

Evening Everyone..... Was I the only one that had to actually shovel the snow today? It still is winter here. I wonder if fm had her power go out today. About 1800 folks in Waupaca lost theirs. We were one of them today.
We had 2 pines go down from the weight of the snow in the back yard. That stuff was nasty heavy.

Just got home from the Broasted chicken dinner. We served 402 people not counting all the youth that helped out. We were very pleased and blessed with the results of all the work. We even started with over 80 pies and only had afew leftover. Everyone loves home made pies!

Nice pics everyone. Love seeing everything folks wanna share.

Have fun... bigz

I'm looking for one or two new hens (Madison area). Anyone have one or two to rehome? Not fussy as to type, just need them healthy, not mean and not expensive! I'm getting one Silkie tomorrow and I've read not to introduce only 1 hen to a flock but to introduce a couple at a time, so I'd like to find one or two more & have them all in quaratine (sp) @ the same time. I have some ducks I can trade. I have 4 Pekin/Rouen mix ducks, 2 drakes, 2 hens, that are 3+ months old. Would like to have them go as couples. We processed 3 ducks this past weekend and I cooked one tonight. They're okay (dress out @ 3 lbs.) but I don't like them enough to process the extra 4 that need to go. I have to downsize my flock to a reasonable size as they've destroyed my backyard and I have too many drakes and they're being pretty mean to the girls. If you're interested in the ducks (even if you don't have chickens), please let me know. Please PM me.

Not much new here. Trying to get the animals set up for winter and still trying to get the yards cleaned and stuff put away. I'm running out of time as are all you other procrastinators.

Hey, 1purplehorse, you might want to check if there's a Freecycle web group for your area and look to see where the closest Habitat ReStore stores are. Freecycle is a really good resource for free materials and Habitat ReStore is a great resource for new & recycled building supplies inexpensively and the money they raise is used to build Habitat homes.

Good luck!

Wow, another short day! People must be busy!

Any peeps yet?

Not much to say here either however I do have a question. That guinea with the ouwie is hanging on. It eats and drinks well but is still badly swollen just under the eye and is pushing at the eye. I have it on Tetracycline Hydrochloride but am wondering if I should change to a different antibiotic. If so what and how much?

Here's a cute pic just because it's slow... anyone got a caption?

Good Morning All! Cind how about Are you listening to me? I don't think you ever listen to what I say. Cackle Cackle Cackle! Glad the dinner turned out Bigz! Elaine hope you find a swap for your ducks! TO that sucks about the stove. Always sumpthin. Jim think the 9N is actually a 2N it has a 6 digit serial number. Have to do some research. Gonna go play with it today heading out to split most or all of that pile out back. Took longer than I thought to sharpen that saw chain yesterday.

That was the main consideration when I remodeled the shed to a coop. The doorways had to be big enough for the wheelbarrow. tiki went back to the first posts of the reinstated thread and realized that you've been around for a long time. I was thinking you were a newer person for some reason. Out of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

Good morning everyone. THanks for the early laugh Cind! I love when you get to snap the pic just at the right moment!
You are right, I was surprised that there wasnt more to catch up on too. Great on the feast Brent! That is certainly a ton of work to put on for sure. Too bad about your trees; I hope they werent prominent ones in your yard. That leaves such an ugly hole until you get used to it! I am still not used to the hole left from our big Cedar.
Elaine--I have several young hens that could be rehomed. I dont know if they would fit into your flock or not. They arent mean but they arent tame either. They were hatched early this spring. Let me know if you want them, I will have to catch them as they roost up in the barn.
DrH--you be careful out in those woods today!

If your tractor is a 2N does that make it less powerful? (or are you just kidding?)

I had a guy call me last night to buy ducks. He wanted to come this morning. When I told him I was working all day he said, oh-I need them for Friday night..." Geez--way to give me a heads up! He said he might call this afternoon. Do these people just think I can go out and take them off a shelf and hand them to them? Catching ducks at this time of the year is a nasty business--I certainly wasnt going to go outside at 8pm--get all muddy and then have him not show up! Maybe I will pen some today so they are more accessible. If I didnt need to get rid of some so bad I would tell him to wait until it snows!

DH didnt put the garbage out again last night. I heard the truck go by at 6 this morning. I asked him if it was the day and he said "I dont know." I am tired of being a "Mom of everything"

I sure hope the "shopper" got everything ingredient wise for me to cook this morning! It is very hard to make stuff to eat when you have nothing to do it with! I do that enough at home, I would rather just have it all there for me at work! She has a real problem with getting fresh parsley for me...I like to cook with it, it makes things taste and look more appetizing--especially when you have to cook the dickens out of it so the folks can chew it!

I hope the weatherman is right and we will have a semi-warm weekend! No rain would be nice...I really would like to get some of those leaves up...and the rest of the garden pulled out. LOTS of raking to do in the flower beds, and of course the pond could be scooped too! Oh brother, I am overwhelming myself already!
I guess I'd better go out and feed the critters so I can go to work and get there on time too! Have a great day everyone! I hope all the power is restored!
