Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Late Morning All! Had a bunch of early errands to run. Seems like TSC is always out of layer pellets when I want them. I don't make a special trip unless I call first. Was told before that the feed comes in on Thurs. Now I guess it comes on Mon.

Nothing going here today just wanted to wish all the hunters the best of luck!

kristip: Had to laugh-I think every stage of chickens (incubating, hatching, chicks, first time in the coop, etc) it feels like being a new parent all over again!! (I'm still not sure Im ready for, or could handle the whole incubating/broody hen nerves yet) Good luck!!!

Last night with the temps hovering around 20, I was nervous for my 3 months old...can't imagine what I will be like when it gets to -20!!!

Anyone here a landlord and have experience with tenants breaking a lease? :p

I'm missing my "chicken time"! With it getting light after I leave for work, and dark before I get home....work is really cutting into my stress-relief bonding time with the chickens

I've run my bator twice and dang near didn't live through it. Day 19 did I see that one move? I develope a bad case of bator neck. Flashlight is always sitting by the bator to get a good look too. Was just looking at Meyers again thinking a doz. Black Australorps .........

I hear ya on the stress relief time Angie...I do have time with my chickens cause I useally dont head to work until noon...today I am off so I was out cleaning up and looking at them and moving some; installing heating plates and buckets...then I come in the house and the DOGS stress me out!

THey never used to that much but the chickens are so much easier! SO now I have the dogs' messes cleaned up and am taking a break...then I get to go into town and see how far our $$$ will go for groceries...talk about STRESS! At least with Thanksgiving loo,ing there are a bunch of deals! I stock up at this time--anyone else? Of course you cant Jim...your freezers are plum full!

I went down to find a beef roast and we dont have any! Only chick roasts and that is not what I wanted...so I found a venison roast from last year...thawed it and will have that tonight with some mashed potatoes, carrots and maybe broccoli. Oh NO...just thought, it is Friday...the people may be going to the hockey game--will have to ask DD when she gets home. Man, ya feel like cooking and there is no one to eat it up!

I wanted to put some plastic up outside but the wind is just howling here out of the S
outh. I dont have a lot of protection from that way so it is crazy out there.
DD25 just got home with my thermocubes...$9.48 at Menards--what a deal! I am amazed that they had them this year...last year they did not have any idea what they were when I asked for them...maybe they do listen!

OK--gotta run to town now that my debit card it back! Terri O

Dont know why it saved it sideways but that peeping has proved to be a pip. I dont want to check on the second egg from same batch adn bother this pip trying to escape! Stopped at F &F this am but they were out of baby crumbles.... will either have to go to different F &F in Monroe or east side or hit Mounds for their expensive feed. Now to talk DH into my plan... it means moving the bunny hutch that we used to winter over the buns in the garage back to the garage... at least chickens are a little cleaner than the bunny poop that tried to take over the world! Lets see if he will go for that!
Carol... brown egg LF ( the first set of eggs there was an off white, a brown and a bantam egg... the bantam got smashed recently and was a dud... not sure on the off white one yet... any thoughts what we might have? Coloring vaguely looked brown chipmunky from the parts that were out... I know it is early... just proud momma excited.

fm don't you dare!

I know... trying to prepare the kids for the worst too... mama has happy feet in there and I hope she doesnt step on her. Well it is out of shell and mostly dried off and sleeping under mama. it is a dark brownish colored chicken with black beak and legs that are dark on front and lighter on back... 4 toes. Maybe silkie mix with black beak or is that normal color for other chickens? Will see about pictures later tonight or tomorrow.
heat lamp is on with them in the garage.

Oh my !!! Proud momma I am. This is our 3rd baby but our first hatch at home... all the rest we got as half grown/pullets. yup... there goes the weekend... baby watching!

My first batch of chickens went through -35 to -40 degrees with a drafty coop some 25 years ago. No heat! Did just fine. These new babies are 7 months old and in a new, well-insulated coop that's looking to be warmer than my (heated) sun room with no help from me. Don't think I'll be worrying much about them getting too cold.

Watch'a wanna know about landlord/tenant experience? I've had rentals for 30+ years.
