BigZ.... I saved and froze some of the fat from our deer for the chickens.... wasn't much though

That soup dose sound allot like mine...I use smoked ham hocks or bacon in mine and canned tomatoes. As for beans... I usually get the mixed ones. For whoever asked... "Better Than Bullion" makes a ham base but like the "Vegetable" base it's hard to find.

Well, got the lights on the tree... did allot of chasing today.... didn't get allot done, but I did sell a gross of eggs! ( not gross eggs, they were fine....) A dozen dozen! The girls are doing good considering it's winter!

Now I feel better.

Jim come to think of it I taped a heat tape to the outside of the sump hose and it worked. Those heat tapes should have a built in thermostat. To ad lib a line from "Jaws" Think your gonna need more beer! And " A field of dreams" If you bring it they will come.

Getting a pig butchered the first part on the new year and am saving the fat from that for suet. Last time I did that it came frozen in a big bag. Ended up throwing it out but now I have a meat saw and will block it up, been saving mesh bags to hang in the coop. Oh ya Jim you think that's bad I went over to a guys house and saw his meat saw that he uses to cut up deer. Wooden doors covering the wheels and he only cleans it just before deer season. It sits dirty all summer from the season before.

He's lazy and stupid! And I love to hear younger people starting to complain about their aches and pains. I always tell them. Don't worry it gets better!

Speakin of which think I'm headed to Toma to the VA and see what they say about this stupid knee. Had to quit workin on the bedroom yesterday long before planned.

Think if these girls don't start laying I'm gonna need to borrow a plucker. Instead of ordering chicks gonna get some eggs and hatch a barnyard mix. The PR's layed exceptionaly well the first 2 years but think their burnt out. And I don't understand why the slw's have only layed for the first year. Just hope their diet brings them back around. So many possibities. Think I said that they were going to induce L's DD yesterday. Well as of 6 last night she still hadn't taken the big poop so they were gonna wait till 10 last then do a C section. Should have news this morning. Just hope the baby is OK!

You know those soup and salads at Olive Garden? Well my DD33, Angie has the recipes for the creamy chicken soup and the potatoe one with te snausage in it. I am going to get them from her and make some. I havent been much of a cook since I have moved to my new place 2 1/2 yrs ago. But with everybody on here talking about it, and how good it sounds, I guess I will try to be a little bit more suzy homemakerish.

I am cleaning everything in my house because the keeping of baby chickens has caused dust everywhere and is making me sick (got asthma and allergies). I found an old cookie in one of my storage boxes. Must have been a little mouse stash. hehe Most of the mice are gone now because of all the traps I set. One went off last night after about 2 weeks of no activity. They are so cute but I cant keep them in the house.

I didnt know it, but I had a rat problem in the coop. I plugged up all the holes around the outside except one and put a box over that with a bunch of poison inside. The tunnel that was dug through to get the poison was BIG (at least 2 in across). The poison was eaten for 2 days and then no activity. Now this morning I noticed the poison was eaten again. I have noticed a drop in the feed consumption. Thats always good.

French Toast good idea about the Christmas gifting. I keep trying to get my family to do something a bit less costly, but they never seem to listen to me. Awe well I am not going to stress about it this year. Gettin too old.

Wasn't my idea to just do the white elephant. We usually draw names and spend $50 which is and isn't alot. I kind of like having to pick out a gift for someone especially since we have new additions to the family (neices's husbands and SIL) gives you a chance to find out what they like. Funny part is they all make more money then DH & I and they "don't have any money" !!! Then you get their and sometimes you'll get a gift anyway and sometimers not. Makes it hard to decide if you should get small gifts for everyone anyway !!!

Feel like a heel when you get one and don't give one !!
And I know they don't want roosters !!!

Speaking of Roosters and Christmas, I've been meaning to mention this. At Walmart they sell the nativity scene individually, Baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, Three Wise Guys, Donkey. AND a Rooster !!!! Since when is a Rooster part of the Nativity scene ??? I know the three wise guys brought gifts but a Rooster ?????

Sounds like Dh got my ATV off the horse fence since I heard him running around with it. Hope the horses didn't chew the seat or handle bars !!!

I know who would do it to, the big spotted draft Chief. To bad I didn't think of it, I could have used him to pull it out !!!

Hey Jim, I bought a few of those dirlls too. Just of small jobs, used one already, worked good. Nice for small jobs not close to electric !! Now just need to remember to keep a battery charged .

Ok, now I'm hungry for Soup !

Does your computer have a usb port. You can get a cable from your camera to the usb or buy a cheap card reader to plug into the usb port. Just thinking.

Here is something for the kids (or us kids at heart) to do on these yucky rainy cold days ! I want to make some (probably for next year) of horses, horse shoes and maybe chickens ?

good afternoon, I just came in.. nice outside .. filled the goose pool.. dragged a hose up from the garden.. going to cut it shorter for winter use.. easier to drain a short one than a 50 footer.. my fingers are cold and still tingling..

Sandi, I used one of my new drills too.. they are OK for what they cost.. I drilled a couple of holes and ran in a few screws.. No problem..

I don't think rats get immune to that poison.. If you give it to them in large doses.. and make sure that they can get to water after they eat..

Well it happened again.. I offered some advice about chicken pluckers on the O F thread.. and just like every other group/thread ., some a$$ steps in and promotes one of those toy pluckers as "better" and "less mess" and "cheaper" than mine. obviously without knowing what the heII he is talking about. I didn't make any claims at all.. I did not go on there to compare mine to anybody else's.. just trying to be helpful.. I am posting this rant here, because if I do it on that other thread, I will not hold back.. just disregard this rant.. I feel much better now..

Annie just handed me the Shopper.. someone has stewing chickens for $1/each.. 40 of them.. I guess I am supposed to call about them..? Oh goodie, I get to use my inferior plucker !!

Is there a trick to cutting a heat tape shorter ? I know nothing about them..
