Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh no - poor Peanut!

I've been slaving away working on a new raised bantam duck pen for my Mallards and the new Call, and I saw a pair of rabbit hutches someone was selling on Craiglist last night that's pretty much exactly what I'm trying to build, and he was only asking $20 for the pair! Which is CRAZY - one if them is about 6'x4'x4' and the other is about 4'x4'x4'. They're a little weathered and could use a good coat of paint, but from what I can see in the picture, they look sturdy.

I e-mailed him, and I'm supposed to go pick them up late this afternoon - but I'm pretty sure only one is going to fit in our little box trailer...

Had a date night with the DH last night; had fish at the Ale House in Waupaca then sat back and listend to River Cities Jazz play. My sister is the singer for the group so it was a nice opportunity to spend an evening away from the kids!
wink.png

If anyone is interested, they are going to be playing in Wisconsin Rapids in the next few weeks. Here is the link to their web site with performance dates and locations......

On top of that, they are taking a trip to Europe to perform in the Montreux Jazz Festival this June! How cool is that! They are also taking a small tour of Europe to raise funding to eradicate Polio, and whatever monies they raise Bill and Melinda Gates are going to match funding.

Dr. H you should go and check them out!!!

Sounds fun BL4! We never seem to "go out" anymore!

So Dr H what was the news??? I am dying to find out! I hope it is fit to print here...

I just got back from a talk on pasturing poultry by ? Peterson. Eddie? I think that was his last name. He was very knowledgeable about the bigger end of chicken raising and the profit line...I guess not exactly what I was expecting though. I met a few people there and invited them to this forum. Some said that they are on here all the time...but maybe I dont get to the right parts? I have a suggestion: how about everyone copy the signature line me and Fordmommy have and put it with your posts? Then we might reach all the Wisconsonites on here and they will know about our chickenstock and this great group? Anybody?
I have such a bad cold and my head feels like a watermelon...I think I will make a cup of hot tea and go for a nap now! I hopw everyone is having fun at the swap! Hey, that Craig's list add had some SLW BBCB...maybe you should get some more? If you post a pic of the ones you think are girls and we could compare, it might be easier to tell if the one in question is a boy or girl.

Good night...Terri O

Well we came home empty handed. There was a vendor there that had 3-4 SLW's but they were already 5 weeks old. He had a lot of birds! I was temped. Then another guy told me he had some that should be hatching in the next couple of days. I came back to him after a good look around and then he told me he only had a couple of birds and wasn't sure about selling any till he got the flock a little bigger. But on the up side L and I got out of the house and stopped and had B'fast together. That was nice! And got to meet Tyler and his wife, very nice people. Cold and very windy there. Someone was noticibly absent. Who could it be Hmmm Oh Ya BL4. Duh!

Glad you guys got a night out, that's important. Up at 3 yesterday and 4 this morning for some reason don't have much ambition today. Got the basics done and think that's going to be it for today. Maybe a nap later will help. Bigz you hit the nail on the head as far as my thoughts about the youngest. But my logic was that they haven't gone out for that long. It turned out that it was nothing earth shattering [at least in Dad's world] she's just growing up. She has a good head on her shoulders and a good heart hope she keeps it. Supper was excellent! Taters, broccoli, carrots, onion, green beans, corn, butter, and cheese sauce wrapped in foil on the grill. Plus sirloin tips. And beer. We didn't have to do hardly anything or pay for it. But they will be invited back for paybacks. Also took out a ham steak to do on the grill thanks for the reminder of that. Thinking a horseradish glaze wrapped in foil with a hint of clove. Peaches must have just given the alarm call. They hauled A into the coop so I went out to see what if any the threat was. As soon as I came out here came Brownie as fast as she went in there. She ran to me and squatted then the others followed. I picked her and stuck my nose in her neck and talked to her till she calmed down. I've still got it! Made me feel good. Peaches looked a little miffed

I gave him reassurance that he was still the king. I have to take what I can get, since his arrival I'm not the alpha male anymore, kinda hurts. Now BBCB you opened a can of worms. I could tell by your posts that your good people but to have a complete or nearly complete JP collection has sealed the deal. If your a fan of John Prine then your real people! If your serious about burning me some CD's I will take you up on the offer and will gladly, gladly pay your asking price. I'll have to go through mine to see what I'm missing. Let me know. My turn. Make me a poster of an old rodeo. Just give me one thing that I can hold on to......./Bonnie Raitt

TO sorry to hear about your mellon head. Garlic, pepper, and onions as often as possible seem to keep that affliction away from me along with all the rest so far. Been years since I've been down that road. The reason you don't go out anymore is that everytime you go out the door you put on your barn boots.

BL4 jazz isn't really one of my fav's but there's some that I like. Do like the blues though. The kids are out dusting in the garden think the soil might be ready for the tiller. Might sink a spade to see. But feel like tipping over.

Afternoon All....BBCB In regards to your peep...how does the tail compare to the rest? Usually the pullets will grow them first.

Yep... it gets really windy cold at neilsville, eh! Doc, I'm glad everything went well with your daughter.

Babylady4, how's the fish at the ale house? Is that where they serve guiness on tap?

I'll take a turn....that's the way the world goes around, your up one day, the next your down...John Prine.

fordmommmy, it's cool that the whole flock is getting along fine. Saves alot of work not having to deal with the opposite.

Half an inch of water and you think your gonna drown..... Sorry [I lied] real tired and as they say in the Fatherland a bit tipsy. Just spent a half an hour having a meeting at the picnic table and sharing some oatmeal/ raisin cookies. I brought them. They always eat the suspected flys first. Weird. Tears rolled down my face as I sat there with my girls and the new boy and realized I'll be able do this everyday, soon. Came back in the house and great smells accosted my sinus' . L is making, pardon my spanish spelling it's worse than my english. Stupit englais! L is making empinanda's, basically pan fried apple turnovers. Their terrible warmed with french vanilla ice cream. And toquito's they also suck and with the left over meat chimichongas. I hate Mex food to the point I could eat it every day. Life is so good. I have the partner of my dreams. Critters that never fail to make me laugh. Great offspring. And a sense that my inner self will soon be able to realize a bit of it's potential. Internal peace? Is it possible? I'll give it a whirl. I'm upset Peaches took scraps from L's hand but never from mine. Wait till I retire I'm going to teach him to sit on my shoulder, wear an eye patch, and teach him to say ARRGH! Peaches, the scourge of the yard! ARRGH!

Back from the dog park. It was a nice little walk. The dogs are tired and I am glad! They wanted to play so bad today when I got home from the chicken talk...now they are satisfied. DrH I have no idea why I have this cold; some of my favorite foods are garlic, pepper and onions! In fact I am eating popcorn right now with garlic and pepper on it. My son brought this one home from college and I caught it...I believe it is because I took another client and have been waking up 2 hours earlier each day to get to his place on time. See, it is overwork that makes you get sick! After you retire you will never get sick again! Someday...
The guy at the talk said something I am wondering about. We were talking about wormers and he said that you do not have to withhold eggs when treating with Wazine because it is strictly a med that works in the intestines. Think there is any truth to that?
I just pulled about 6 handfuls of hair off my dog's hindquarters! I thought it was just one clump but it kept coming out...I guess I ought to go outside and use the Furminator tomorrow! The birds will be happy--they love it for their nests!
OK--Popcorn done...I do believe I will have some tea--this time I am adding brandy; or maybe Captain's! This melon head needs HELP! Terri O

okay second try at posting..computer has a mind of its own tonight and just as I was finishing it clicked back....

Terry O hope you start feeling better, have you tried taking Nyquil before going to bed, that helps me sometimes at least be able to fall asleep and sleep soundly.

Dr HaHa if you train Peaches don't forget to video it... we told our daughter she should train one of our chickens to sit on her shoulder while she is trying to obedience train our Irish Setter, that way she will have the dogs undivided attention and focus...

Of course we got the dirty look that only a 10 year old can do!

Got our 3 new cuckoo Marans chicks(all girls) today, went in on an order with our poultry 4-H leader, the poor chicks had a rough trip and they had 7 die either in shipment or shortly after arrival. Did head count the other day and we have 30 chickens between the older birds and the chicks-

We will be doing some thinning of the group once the cochin bantams get to the point of being able to decide which ones will be good for fair.

Terri O, My home remidie is to eat homemade salsa. Nice and spicy with lots of garlic. Works like magic to clear up the head and sinusis. IMO it helps the cold along too. Seems I'm not sick for that long. And of course tea. And lots of it.

Well-I got the DH to start helping me with the new coop today!
wee.gif
We got the main frame done. I threatened him that the babies will have to stay in the house until he got it done, whether or now they still fit in the galvinized tank or not! Well- that got him motovated. He look into the tank today and realized how big they are in just 2 1/2 weeks.
ep.gif
is exactly what he did!
lol.png
So tomorrow it should almost be done. Then this week I can ask our local flooring place if they have any scrap linolium for the floor.

I keep looking on craigslist, but haven't found any. I did see some at a rummage sale last summer for $1. 2 pieces or so. I knew I should have picked them up.
