DrH... Duct tape the seams... Sounds like a super idea!

I'm thinking of putting something UNDER the wire mesh floor to raise the whole thing up to the level of the egg turner height.

BTW... I don't even have chickens yet, but I'm gonna be addicted! If I win some auctions for eggs, and can't keep them all, I hope y'all might want to take some off my hands

We put in a wet sponge at day 18 to help hold the humidity up through the end of the hatch. We have also noticed that when the chicks hatch they increase the humidity as well.

Jeepers Creepers! I go to Great Wolf Lodge for one night and I have 3 pages to read!

In all of this posts there was not a response to my question: what is the best way to maintain the higher humidity during lock down? Does a wet sponge work best, or is there something else that works? I would love to hear from you super chicken folks. Where's the Chicken Knowledge Fairy when I need him?!

Oh My Gosh...Oh My Gosh...Oh My Gosh!!!

I saw movement in 5 of my 6 remaining eggs! I decided to play Dr.H and peeped, and cheeped, and clucked and I saw WIGGLES! I was so excited I even got my hubby to come and see (grumbling all the way!)

Something super sad happened too. I think I killed one of my babies!!!

I noticed I put an egg back in upside down!!! D you think I killed it? It was like that for 24-36 hours...

Evening all! DH watching football (what else is new? LOL) Got the critters locked up--no new babies yet! I keep checking. The one day I dont check there will be babies and I will have to get to work 10 mins later. Oh great....now he has decided to "work out" with his Kinecs Adventure game....I think I will cut this short and head to bed!
Sweet dreams everyone! Talk to you all tomorrow. Terri O

Hi all,

Thanks for the condolences about Sissy. She was a sweet little banty turken. Maybe she went to go live with FT

..... as a Roo!

I wonder too if the roosters did some damage to her. She avoided them most of the time, but it would only take one "bad mount" to hurt her.

How many people are/or broodies are hatching now? Seems like 5 of you? Jim will probably have hatching news when he gets back too! That man is a hatching fool!

Well, should be back later... C U!

Note: This spell check needs to learn chicken terms and slang!

Sorry for the loss of Sissy

. Sounds like you did all you could.

It sounds exciting for all of you waiting for new fuzzy butts. Someday I would like to try to hatch some.
The roads were not fun for me today. I was one of the lucky to find the median on I43 this afternoon. Was taking my Grandson home and on my way back found a parking spot

. The Firemen helped me out after the lanes were cleared. Why do some people think it's a good idea to put on the breaks when some one in the opposite direction hits the ditch? Well that's what happened and I took the ditch vs another car. I'm fine and so is the car. DH was happy. Me too. Guess I picked the wrong time to be on the Interstate today.

My chickens were out today enjoying the warm day. Windy but warm. While it was cold they were home bodies.

DH didn't want to watch Football today so we didn't, he's bummed about our loss. So am I but would still like to see who's in the Bowl.
Can't imagine what Jim is going through without this site. Hope his puter guy gets him up soon.

Egg question, If when it was soooooo cold I didn't get to gather eggs till 6p.m. after taking care of them at 7a.m. are those eggs ok? It was below freezing in the coop. Not sure what if anything I should do with those eggs? Think I used some and were ok but not sure. Thanks for your help on this first winter with eggs.
End of the weekend :(
Good Night to all.

Susie J: Ive been asking the same question about frozen eggs...seems most people said they were fine to use. Ive tried them to see-cooked those up to feed back to the chickens and they seem to be just fine. One caution, I had one with a big crack in it-set it aside in the house to cook up for the chickens-as it warmed up-the crack seemed to disappear (either that or Im on crack-which is what my SO said LOL)

I had a friend that worked at an egg packing/processing plant. They store eggs at just barely above freezing for weeks! They can still sell them as "fresh farm eggs" as long as they aren't processed. Some will even freeze or partially freeze. They just check for cracks before packing. That's why they can have such an abundence of eggs just before Easter!

Great to hear about all the new peeps. Have a great time raising those awesome little chicks. My 4 hatched by Reese's Peanut Butter Cup are big enough now to join the coop. They may join soon, but I am worried about the integration process not knowing who is a roo vs hen. My Seramas started doing the squat and they need the run space inside and the chicks will have to go out.

Here is a question for you chicken geniuses out there, I went to do late night chores in the coop half and hour ago and found two eggs under the roost, the kids got the eggs before church tonight a 4:30pm and they were all roosted. One was a thin wall egg splatted on the small poo pile. The other looked good and is in the fridge. Both we near my RIR and were similar color. Could they both be from the same chicken should I be concerned about her being egg bound? Should I pay more attention to her or ???

Hope you have a great night,
KEN
