Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all! Many things to say...first so sorry about your Sissy Cind! Too sad. I wonder what was wrong too...maybe something internal? You could do a necropsy...there is a great tutorial somewhere on here. I dont know if I could do that with a "friend" chicken though...
FT--that is the result of a problem with the laying mechanism in that she (whichever one it was) puts layers and layers of yolk over the first yolk instead of it moving through the oviduct getting the white then the shell to make a "regular" egg. I did a necropsy on a PR once that was an internal layer and that is what I found. Your hen is very lucky that she passed it out the normal channels! She still has a chance of laying normally. What kind is she and how old? I guess it is very common in production type birds but any hen can have it happen...good thing you brought her in! I wonder if she has done this before? I am pretty sure if they do it in the coop the rest of them devour it before we find it!

DrH...that would be a pretty good trick for them to be leghorns...I dont have any!

I do think they are from the Phoenix dad though...I will scare up a few of those pics from last spring. I am so happy that you got such a variety! With a name like Ol Blue I sure hope the blue one is a roo!

Our toilet is frozen up again this morning! It never used to freeze until we had several days below zero. THis house is falling down around our ears here...kind of depressing really! I need to win the lottery...guess I would have to actually buy a ticket then eh?
Well I will go and check for those pics...they might even still be here in my album...but I have to figure out how to post them over here.
Oh yeah...your thing about "marking you spot" RAIM--when I was looking for speed up tutorials for FT I saw a complaint aabout that and you are right. The green arrow will take you to the last post you read. There are so many new things here...I wonder if I will ever figure out all of them?

Stay warm! Terri O

Well obviously whatever I read I must have read wrong! It just doesnt want to let the pic come from my uploaded album to here! I even installed an add on to FF to allow clipboard access! Oh well, I found the perfect pic of the chipmunk babies too. I guess I will try to find it on my computer...then I know how to get it here at least! Terri O

Morning All!

TO-Thanks for the tips for waging the War of the Counter. He likes to play the "While the cats way the mice will play" game or in this case "What Mom doesn't know.." game. He jumps off the counters as soon as I come into the kitchen so catching him can be hard! I would love to try the "water pan" trick but that cat is not right in his head. He loves to play in the water. He likes to reach in with his little arms, make waves and then try to catch them. He makes an absolute mess. So I think the water pans would be to tempting.
He doesn't run from the dogs. he likes to play chase with them. Ichabod is the one that runs so the dogs love to chase him. So far Ichie is to scared to venture into the kitchen. He likes to lay on top of a dresser I have and tease the dogs over to whack them upside their heads. It's really funny actually!
BTW-cute sheep! I almost called her a goat but she was a sheep right?! What kind of sheep is she?

CC, DrH, FT, and H&R- Cute Chick Pics. OMG those are some seriously adorable fuzz butts. Your "war" is going to make me collateral damage. LOL!! Just remember...pay back is a witch....Mawhahahaahah!!

Raim- I mark my spot all the time...so far no ones caught on!

Cind-sorry about Sissy. She went peacefully and in a place filled with warmth and love for her.

Angie-that's tough about your Wally. Honestly, my 2 cents, if you can find even a scrap of space inside somewhere, bring him inside. You will need to dust him and all the other chickens for the mites/lice and you might consider worming him. I can't remember if you did that already?. I would get him inside to warm him up, them give him Sulmet in his water. Sulmet is a sulfer based drug that is a good thing to give when you have a punkie chicken but don't really know what is wrong. Sulmet is cheap and F&F carries is .HTH

MLH: It jsut so happens I have Sulmet!! When I tried setting up a 1st aid kit I bought a bottle of that. It did freeze and I brought it in-that shouldt affect it at all right? I may see if I can get just him to drink this seperate from the hens..Thanks for the tip!!!

THis isnt the picture I wanted, it is a different hen but you get the idea DrH. There is even a bluish one in there! Now I am done playing with this nonsense! Nifty says that there is going to be an upgrade to make loading and posting pictures much easier. It is supposed to be up and running in a month or so and I will be SO GLAD! This is quite the learning curve for me at least...Terri O

Angie hope you get that roo to come around! TO hope that Old Blue isn't a roo! Would depend on how he got along with Peatwo if I kept it. Would have to rehome if it is a roo. Too neat to eat! "It's not an eatin chicken it's just for lookin at". Chief Dan George. Well I guess their not legerns as my mail lady calls em. So a Phoenix mix? They look like the darker colored ones in the pic. Only cuter. Just think it's so cool to have so many different breeds. THANKS TO!

MLH I love your sense of humor! I know some won't agree with my methods but. Our cats aren't allowed on any tables or counters. Starting at a young age and continuing into adulthood if anyone was caught on places they shouldn't be I'd scream at them and chase them down until I caught them then smacked the livin crap out of them. Had a cat that would occasionally still temp fate especially if there was bacon grease in a pan. I'd hear the sound of a tongue licking the pan and I'd sneak in the kitchen and surprise him. The look on his face when caught in the act was absolutely hilarious!

He knew he was wrong and what was about to happen.

Just don't care for hair in my food. Wonder if I could teach Laura like that? Don't think I'll try.......

I got to Cind's post & will have to back & catch up later.

Cind, I am so, so sorry to hear about Sissy!

That sounds like whatever my last 2 PRs had: the symptoms didn't quite match up to any one thing. I just know it wasn't anything respiratory, that I could detect anyway. They just were listless & eventually stopped wanting to eat or drink. And then when they died, it was fast. I wonder if the wild birds are carrying something? I'm just glad it didn't affect my pullets. Just my older ones. I'm suprised Sissy was so young. Again,

FT, bite your tongue! My roo is a Dom, not a barred rock. And on that Feathersite webpage about Dom chicks, they say "the Dominique pullet has a distinct spot on it's head and a shadow on the front of the feet & legs. The cockeral has a fuzzy head spot and no foot/leg shadow". And so far, all of my babies have a white spot on their heads, some larger than others.
Oh, and BTW, we're up to 5 fuzzy butts this morning!

Morning All....warmer today but dang that wind has a damp bite to it.

Jim's puter guy is coming tomorrow...he said we will have to wait to give him some lip service.

Kinda crappy watching the playoffs...playoffs...without the green and gold. I think the niners are gonna GO ALL THE WAY...they have a good D to go with agood O...I think they have both sides of the ball covered. I'm gonna get to watch Eli pout today....dang it.

Nice pics everyone...

Sorry to hear about sissy....I'm thinkin maybe a roo stood on her to long. Sometimes they just stand on the hens and squash something internally. I've lost more that one that way.

Hope all the sick birds return to good health for everyone.
