Good morning all! Many things to say...first so sorry about your Sissy Cind! Too sad. I wonder what was wrong too...maybe something internal? You could do a necropsy...there is a great tutorial somewhere on here. I dont know if I could do that with a "friend" chicken though...
FT--that is the result of a problem with the laying mechanism in that she (whichever one it was) puts layers and layers of yolk over the first yolk instead of it moving through the oviduct getting the white then the shell to make a "regular" egg. I did a necropsy on a PR once that was an internal layer and that is what I found. Your hen is very lucky that she passed it out the normal channels! She still has a chance of laying normally. What kind is she and how old? I guess it is very common in production type birds but any hen can have it happen...good thing you brought her in! I wonder if she has done this before? I am pretty sure if they do it in the coop the rest of them devour it before we find it!
DrH...that would be a pretty good trick for them to be leghorns...I dont have any!
I do think they are from the Phoenix dad though...I will scare up a few of those pics from last spring. I am so happy that you got such a variety! With a name like Ol Blue I sure hope the blue one is a roo!
Our toilet is frozen up again this morning! It never used to freeze until we had several days below zero. THis house is falling down around our ears here...kind of depressing really! I need to win the lottery...guess I would have to actually buy a ticket then eh?
Well I will go and check for those pics...they might even still be here in my album...but I have to figure out how to post them over here.
Oh yeah...your thing about "marking you spot" RAIM--when I was looking for speed up tutorials for FT I saw a complaint aabout that and you are right. The green arrow will take you to the last post you read. There are so many new things here...I wonder if I will ever figure out all of them?
Stay warm! Terri O
