Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ok, ready for yet more cuteness? They're poppin' like popcorn! Just found a 3rd peep, looks like the first one (aussie). The 2nd one looks like a Dom with a buff face.

Chickie #2

Note the white spot on her head?

Chickie #1 in foreground on the left, chickie #3 kinda blurry on the right:

CC- cute baby pictures!

MLH- try a squirt bottle of water- that might help keep it off the counters and such!

TO- our 2nd hatch is done we ended up with 13 babies, they hatched out the night of Jan 18th and continued through Jan 19th. Mostly hatched out Andalusian chicks with a few Welsummer chicks and 1 Lt. Brown Leghorn bantam. Haven't had time to take pictures... just trying to keep up with work and the snow. DH got back about 5 am this morning from plowing snow- believe it or not but that throws our schedules off a bit- the kids are then looking for him and asking how long he'll be- DS(6) especially! 3rd group of eggs is in the incubator and due to hatch Feb 7th- this group is mostly Andalusian and Lt. Brown Leghorn bantams. After this group we will see what we might need to hatch more of. Have to try and replenish our supply of eating eggs- that has taken a hit with collecting and incubating! The Red Golden pheasants are doing good along with the 2 peachicks. They are pretty content in their avairy and it stays pretty tempored in there with the plastic we hung over the panels. Golden Eye(the male) has grown his tail back in nicely- read that they will drop the tail like this one did when caught.

might try and get some pictures loaded, have to head out and clean the babies pen in the garage- at least it is warm out there! Hoping that DD will feel up to helping me out- she had a girl friend over last night- not sure how long they stayed up!

Hey guys. Been a long, long time!

Black Cochin Bantams (Craig in Iowa) has been bugging me on Facebook to get back on BYC, which I've been avoiding because whenever I come on here I see another breed/variety of bird that I NEED and I can't have!

It's seriously torture. Can't even have a couple of hens here in the garage in Baraboo anymore, because the neighbors started getting suspicious and peering into our windows!
BUT, it looks like we're going to be moving to an old farmhouse on 2.5 acres outside of Lyndon Station within the next month, so I can have all my birdies again!

There was a little setback with the financing (just extremely stupid little things with the appraisal), but I think we've got it all straightened out now. And my hubby spent half of last week on the phone with a Call duck breeder in Indiana who's getting out of a bunch of varieties to arrange to have a trio of Magpie Calls ducks shipped to me just after we move in!

Anyone else having a problem with this cold weather? We drove over to check on all the birds yesterday, and half of my Cochin roos ended up with a little bit of frostbite after these past two cold nights despite my mom's best efforts, and I've had 2 Call ducks manage to get their breast feathers frozen into their water bowls now (we got them unstuck without losing too many feathers and they're fine now)! I cannot understand WHY they'd rather sleep on top of their frozen-over water pan, instead of the nice, warm, nest boxes full of fluffy pine shavings!

But, other than that, it's been a pretty uneventful winter. My mom and sisters are taking great care of the birds, everyone is glossy and healthy. Just can't wait to get them back into my OWN backyard!

EDIT: Oh, and before I forget - once I get all my fancy-pants little Bantams out of their yard, my mom and sisters are planning on starting their own flock. They're looking for some Marans, Wyandottes, and Orpingtons. Let me know if anyone's going to have chicks!

TO I'm sorry but there's no way I could say which chicks came from which eggs so many hatched during the night. I should have put deviders in there seperating them. I failed miserably!

THis is the OEGB and then the Phoenix that could be the dads of the PR eggs:

THen I have a few that I took wandering about...I hate that all these are soooo big! Here is the cutest hen EVER! She had muffs, a beard AND a tophat!

THe useless sheep mama:

Another "cool" chicken:

Big Red, enjoying a sunny spot:

ANother favorite basking spot for the free rangers is under the rabbit pens:

And lastly, a few geese who REALLY like the snow!

THere, that is my tour for today! I also found an exiting thik when I was looking for Roadrunner...her mom (the one that hatches eggs in the middle of winter, not in a coop and raises them all---is on a nest! I found it in back of some stuff! I guess we will see if she is successful this time...with how cold it has been that is not an ideal place for her to have picked! Another wait and see game!

I am going to preview this post to see what it looks like. I though I read somewhere that you could download multiple pics at one time? It wouldnt let me do that this time...could have sworn I did before though....later! Terri O

well got our pens cleaned, DD came out to help move chicks around and hold some of the older chicks. We have a pair of Lt. Brown Leghorn bantams that are 2 months old and they are such cuddle bugs! Here is a picture that DD took of the 2nd hatch-there are Welsummer, Andalusian and Lt Brown leghorn bantams under the red light so they are off color a bit!

Cute pictures all !!!
CC I hate to tell you but some breeds you can tell the the male chicks because they have white spots on the top of their heads. Barred Rocks are one of them !! Hope that isn't the case with your little chickie !!

I haven't taken the chicks out for a photo session but here is a picture of the Window seat OM has from this thrown if he doesn't close the door !!
gig.gif

I didn't know where to put chick TV so I put it in the hallway across from the bathroom. Close to water !! Makes changing it often easy !! Now they need a bigger brooder !!! Then I can clean the aquarium out for the next batch !!
One of my black silkies is sitting on three eggs. I figure if she is going to be broody may as well let her raise some chicks.
