Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BF4M - I could potentially take 2 babies as soon as tomorrow(maybe tonight) if you can meet me somewhere.... Friday I will be in Waunakee which is closer as well...Hugs on your baby Blue

Hope everyoen is having a good snowy morning. was getting used to the brown/green that I dont want anymore snow! Carol sorry you are not feeling well. Meant to call you yesterday and then found out that kids needed to bring home made spiders to school so we spent the afternoon in craft mode... lost track of the day. Got my soup on and it was sooo good.

TerriO... any good gluten free sites? Want to start eliminating some things to see if my sinus issues are helped... thought I would try that one. Although I love my bread...

observe the new chick carefully.. are the older ones picking on it ? or are they eating the dried albumen off.. that is normal and it does not hurt the newcomer.. It looks worse than it is..

Oh good info! That chick is goopy (well dried goopy). I was planning on bathing it. But that is very possible what they're doing. They were all hatched yesterday, just 2 different incubators. I do hope it makes it because it is different looking. After I get them home I can keep an eye on them better! Thanks so much Jim... I never ever would have thought of that being new at this!

KristiP... The only babies I have right now are BCM. I will have lavenders in a month or so. I thought you were only interested in the Lavenders...?

Yep, a FIB, aka Fabulous Illinois Buyer up here in the tourist area !!! WI is nice isn't it. I haven't been to enough states to know any better !!! lol

lol Actually we didn't buy lol We took over some family property thats been sitting empty for years. My dad grew up in Lyndon Station, my mom is originally from Iowa and I grew up in illinois lol But we've been spending the summers between Wisconsin and Iowa my entire childhood. I've been to quit a few state and truthfully Wisconsin is the top one to me, the school here is so much better than any of the other school my DD has been in and the people are nicer all around.

What is everyone's input on where to get inexpensive layer mash and or meat chicken feed.

Also can meat chickens be fed game bird feed? the game bird is higher protein 28% than the meat bird 21%, and i am guessing on those percentages but believe them to be close.

getting excited to order some chicks in time for my incubator hatch, unfortunately for me the place I go in Richland Center (Chets Feed and Seed) does not have the blue laced red wyandote (been wanting this bird since the first time I saw a picture of it) on thier list of chickens so I might have to settle for some Blue Andalusians.

Check with all feed mills in your area for their layer mixes. Some mills, like mine, will do custom mixes. I have more protien added, extra vitamins, alfafa pellets instead of powder etc.

I won't feed the meat birds any higher protien then the meat bird food that is formulated for them. Why waste the money.

Find out what brands of chick starter your mills carrys and I'd choose the one with the cheapest price. Purina is the highest priced most of the time. Medicated vs non medicated is a personal choice. I always use medicated. Some buy one bag and when that is gone they use non medicated.

Did you check on CL for blrw eggs or chicks? I think I saw some on BYC hatching egg auction.

FrenchToast-

forgive me if I ask too many questions in one post, but I am trying to streamline my fowl opperations
1. I found an individual that I plan on purchasing pheasants from and he sells the feed for .18 cents to .20 cents per pound and that is cheaper than I can find meat bird feed at the local mill. (well the one time I checked)
2. How or what is the criteria for getting tax exempt status?
3. Not sure what CL is but assuming it is the auction site on here, and yes I did see the BLRW on there but am not experience enough at hatching yet to take the chance! I just put my first eggs in the incubator on Sunday!
4. Typically I too run med chick starter till the first bag is out and then reg starter from there on out....

I really appreciate the input,

Joe
